My husband and I were at the Riu Palace Baja California . Olaf came to visit on my 2nd day at the resort. The surf was an amazing but scary sight. We had to be back into our rooms by 7:30 pm and I have amazing videos of how strong the wind was. Luckily it was pretty much over by midnight. San Jose got most of the impact.

I’ve always been curious, with all of these incredibly violent storms that you have experienced, which would you consider the most intense? Just from your uploads, I’d say Dorian takes the cake. I’d love to hear your answer.

Been so caught up in volcanism lately that I missed this one entirely. Cyclones are forever on my altar of coerced respect, but no sequence of cyclonic activity could end modernity. What do Fagradalsfjall, Cumbre Vieja, and Etna portend? What does it MEAN to MEAN something? Probably nothing! But air in our atmosphere has a speed limit unto itself unless propelled by something far worse than air can manage alone. AWESOME video, dude. He was no Odile, but he was worth the trip!

You got some really good footage.! First time watching your videos.. Also my first Hurricane! We're living about 10 mins from Pamilla and it was pretty intense, as you can see in your video. The eye was a surreal experience... I've used that metaphor "being the eye of the storm" but actually having the physical experience of it was another thing! It was amazing,! I'll never forget it!, and if I start to - I can watch your video again.
@iCyclone3 жыл бұрын
Aww, thanks so much, Stefanie-- I am so glad my video helps you commemorate the experience. And I'm glad you survived the experience safely and that you got to witness the magic of a hurricane's eye.
@loissayers5803 жыл бұрын
Great video and another fantastic success nailing the eye - especially when it was a real last minute chase! I like the format of the video with more lead up to the climax of the storm, it gives us a better understanding of what you go through to get in the eye. The eye was so serene, yet the rumbling of the sea in the background was telling another story. I'm glad the lights stayed on, it would've been a bit spooky otherwise! Thanks for sharing with us, Josh :). P. S. Folks should watch it on a big screen if possible, it raises the intensity levels to another level!
@iCyclone3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for this thoughtful feedback, Lois. It's really helpful-- especially as I experiment with new ways of telling the story (for example, in this one including a lot more of the actual chase). I'm gonna take your advice and play it on a big screen as well!

I am glad this wasn't fully a night time chase again. Again you outmaxed the full potential of a small hurricane in pictures. From scrambled eggs into sexy in less than 24 hours. These rapid intensifications must be challenging for a chaser to handle. This thing came out of nothing.

Wow, that's a beautiful chase! It's a shame these amazing storms do a lot of damage to living areas. Also I wouldn't be myself if I didn't ask a stupid theoretical question: would a person be able to withstand direct peak category 2 winds (without windshields like houses) if not taking into account debris and other indirect inconveniences of course?
@iCyclone3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words. A person would probably be knocked down, blown off their feet, or injured by flying debris if directly exposed to a *true* Cat-2 wind, which means a sustained (1-min average) speed of about 100-110 mph. In most videos you see of people standing in strong winds, they aren't true hurricane winds, or they aren't above Cat-1 speeds.
@sophisticated21563 жыл бұрын
@@iCyclone Thank you! I pretty much agree that 100-110 is a stretch but one person may have recorded a person standing in Category-2 winds. I think it was Justin Drake chasing hurricane Irma, the anemometer measured around 93-94mph sustained i think, but before they started measuring Justin tested the winds which seemed a little bit stronger at the time, but either way I doubt it was really above 97-98mph sustained direct winds which is just an entering C2 and he already could barely stand in that ^^.

Is it me or the gusts in this storm are more...apparent (?) than other chases...maybe it's different audio equipment and lighter rain compared to other intense storms that make those few second gusts stand out a lot here.
