I am starting to think that one of the safest places during a Hurricane is a parking garage. Thank you for this footage it still breaks my heart the total damage to Fort Myers and Sanibel. :-(

You’re correct, for several reasons. First, you can take refuge from the storm surge on the higher floors. Second, because there are no windows, there’s no danger from broken glass. And finally, not only are these buildings reinforced concrete, they have open spaces for wind and water to move through instead of battering the structure into rubble.

Excellent coverage!!! Love actually seeing a video that gives me a real feel of what those winds would be like, incredible, also shows how Florida has improved with stiff building codes for hurricanes, these buildings did well....most of them...

I live in Largo (small town between Clearwater and St. Pete) and watching this makes realize what we were spared here in the Tampa Bay area. I literally have goose bumps watching this and realize, "There but for the Grace of God go I." Thank you for this footage.

I own a home in Bonita Springs. My daughter lives there full time. We were lucky to be inland enough not to get any water damage. No wind damage other than a few Palm Trees. She said the wind was brutal with the windows moving in and out.

To those that have not lived through a Hurricane. The audio in no way sounds like the real thing. I get it. They are doing the best they can. It's sounds similar to an eerie howl that never takes a break. The volume is very loud as well.

Wow , Kudos to the builder or whoever installed the steel supports at 16:45 as it wasn't moving and saved the building ! My prayers go out to all these families and business owners ,so unreal , let alone the loss of money will be humbling for some as the insurance companies are being bombarded and will not be able to service them. So already not being covered totally will suffer great losses . Too bad as greed needs to be humbled and more monies shared with the existing homeless situation ( before Ian ) . This area is just one tiny spot so imagine all the wealth out there. People we need to help each other yes but don't forget the homeless , most suffered losses to get there too .

Storm chasers need to avoid using microphones with any kind of noise cancelling or noise gate feature,to eliminate the choppy sounding recording.Not criticising this guy,just see it a lot & this is actually one of the better ones,some are un-watchable.

I was Englewood Florida. Specifically Rotonda west and we were in the worst part of the eye wall for 8+ hours. Idc what they say it was a 5 at landfall. A anemometer in Englewood clocked a wind speed and/or of 190+ mph
@tvold9204
@tvold9204 11 ай бұрын
The englewood anemometer was faulty. Winds there were probably up to cat-4 strength but not 190. That just wouldn't make sense with the storm. Ian really looked more like a cat 3 at landfall, just the jet interaction was keeping intensity higher than it otherwise would have. It was a weird storm.

Thinking of the tremendous loss of livelihood for thousands of regular folks. They not only lost their way of making a living, but the businesses loss of assets, inventory, etc. On top of the damage to their homes and automobiles. And, I hear that only 20% of the homes in that area have flood insurance. Maybe wind damage coverage will help. The total losses will be near $100 billion I have heard.
