There was a few people interested in seeing how the hurricane props do in heavy vegetation and grass so I went out and tested the 8" hurricane prop and this is what happened.
After testing the 8-inch hurricane prop by swamp runner, I really enjoyed it for speed. It did great. So now I tested it heavy, thick vegetation and grass. To my surprise, it didn't collect much grass around the shaft! I believe this was due to the decreased distance between the prop and the flange bushing. With a standard prop, there is normally a bigger space/gap there and grass collects pretty bad there, but for this 8" hurricane it did not.
Even though it did not collect grass, it still didn't perform the way I wanted it too. When using the prop when I got stuck, it seemed like it did not want to grab the water and push/propel the boat forward. It felt like the prop was slipping through the water and not grabbing.
When I switched to the 8.75" weedless prop, there was a would of difference where the 8.75 weedless prop would grab the water and sit you back in your seat. The 8.75 weedless prop grabs and chugs forward without question.
So if you want to use a hurricane prop but are worried about it collecting grass, I wouldn't worry much about it. If you are battling the swamp and continually going through thick vegetation and battling your way through grass, then the 8.75" weedless prop is the way to go without any hesitation.
