I was 4 years old. I don't remember much about those years, but this definitely lives very clear. I remember getting woken up at 11pm or 12am with my father saying, "grab everything important to you. "

I was watching the news about it and i was actually in California so while I was not in Katrina's path I still was checking out what disturbance is happening down in New Orleans I was upset of how many people lost homes, or lots that got killed. Btw I was only 17 when Katrina made landfall

The announcement did specifying the locations by saying "In southeastern Louisiana, the following parishes" and rattles off the parishes that were in the warned area along with the metro New Orleans area before revealing the counties of coastal Mississippi that were in the path of Hurricane Katrina. This Hurricane warning along with the Civil Emergency message broadcast to the residents of New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina devastated the city are extremely unsettling; but it was extremely justified in terms of being unsettling because Hurricane Katrina was worse than Hurricane Betsy in 1965 and Hurricane Camille in 1969. Ray Nagin was the mayor of New Orleans in 2005 and was a survivor of both Betsy and Camille; so he knew how bad Hurricane Katrina was going to be when it struck New Orleans. As a result he along with his colleagues at the National Weather Service office in Slidell, Louisiana put out a strongly worded Civil Emergency Message broadcast to the residents of New Orleans to get them to understand that Hurricane Katrina would devastate the city and they should just get the Hell out of New Orleans. This is credited with getting the most stubborn residents of New Orleans to realize the severity of the situation and got them to flee the city. Many residents of New Orleans who fled the city before Hurricane Katrina devastated the area have rebuilt their lives in Shreveport, Louisiana. The text of Civil Emergency Message broadcast was extremely sobering and conveyed the severity of the situation at hand. This is the text: "Devastating damage expected! Hurricane Katrina; a most powerful hurricane with unprecedented strength, rivaling the intensity of Hurricane Camille of 1969. Most of the area will be uninhabitable for weeks, perhaps longer. At least one half of well constructed homes will have roof and wall failure. All gabled roofs will fail; leaving those homes severely damaged or destroyed. The majority of industrial buildings will become nonfunctional. Partial to complete wall and roof failure is expected. All wood framed low rise apartment buildings will be destroyed! Concrete block low rise apartment buildings will sustain major damage; including some wall and roof failure. High rise office and apartment buildings will sway dangerously, a few to the point of total collapse. All windows will be blown out! Airborne debris will be widespread; and may include heavy items such as household appliances and light vehicles. Sport utility vehicles and light trucks will be moved. The blown debris will create additional destruction. Persons, pets, and livestock exposed to the winds will face certain death if struck! Power outages will last for weeks as most power poles will be down and transformers destroyed. Water shortages will make human suffering incredible by modern standards! The vast majority of native trees will be snapped or uprooted. Only the heartiest will remain standing, but will be completely defoliated. Few crops will remain. Livestock exposed to the winds will be killed. An inland hurricane wind warning is issued when either sustained winds close to hurricane force or frequent gusts at or above hurricane force are certain within the next twelve to twenty-four hours. Once tropical storm and hurricane force winds onset, do not venture outside!"

Donna Harper A day? HA. I live in Indiana, and you get about an hour's warning for a tornado, if you're lucky. Usually, you get 15 minutes to gather your loved ones and your pets in the safest room, grab your emergency kit, and hide until the Warning issued by NWS has passed.
@princevegeta3805
@princevegeta3805 10 жыл бұрын
Donna Harper Yeah, that's completely false. You do not get a day. It happens very quickly! They know way before a hurricane will strike. Tornadoes can form at any time during a severe thunderstorm

I recall TEE putting in the SAME header tones in their videos back in 2009-2010-ish, but I guess they removed those parts at one point. Microsoft Sam's voice used to be in this video at the very beginning, with an orange(?) screen explaining that the EAS has been activated and to tune into a channel for details.
