At the heart of every small rural Canadian town, are the hard-working and too-often nameless volunteers who labour tirelessly to make every community event special. Hats off...to those fine Tuffnell folks featured in this week's video. Many thanks for sharing.

Each one the boys in my family (I’m one of the 4) were raised prepping, pressing, boiling and eating perogies (pierogi)…my Mom’s secret recipe (hardly a secret - cheddar cheese into the mix)… my Dad was better at the curling and the drinking parts. Thanks for rekindling the great memories. I’ll give them a call today. Cheers.

Coming from Quebec,I've had never heard of perogies before...before the one day that I was in a restaurant in Whitehorse(Yukon) and the waitress suggest me to have some perogies,I did,and that was the days that I felt in love with them, and since that memorable day(40 years and counting) I've been eating them in all different ways, plus I've been converting many Quebecers to it,as a matter of fact every year, for the past 12,I've been asked ,if not demanded to bring a potfull of them(boiled with bacon and fried onions served with sour cream...my favorites at the Super-Bowl potluck. I will take perogies over a poutine any day LOL !

I have so many great memories of winter in Canada. Outdoor hocky rinks (cold feet), Skiing, toboggining, ice fishing, old Ski-Doo, blowing out the drive once the snow had stooped. oh and my beer would freeze to slush at the campfire. (I only went curling once and had a great time.) Thanks for your videos they always make me :)

I grew up in skid mark no where Alberta. We was very classy cuz we had artificial ice for the curling rink and the hockey rink. From January thru March there was either a hockey tournament or a bonspiel every weekend. The concession was run by the ladies auxiliary and they made an absolute killing selling burgers, smokies, chili, pies, cookies, and yes, perogies. That building was the absolute heart of the community. I am grateful beyond words to have grown up in such a place that you literally knew everybody and disagreements were settled in the parking lot then everybody went back inside still friends LOL!

I think I want to move to Tuffnell. Actually, I’m wondering how I spent three years in Waskatenau without ending up at the curling rink. And watching the ice freeze is almost as important as standing around the hole in the road the local guy with the backhoe dug, and commenting on how you would have dug it differently...All the great amusements of small town living. Oh, by the way, round is better.

A number of years ago I was out in Coderre, Saskatchewan in October waterfowl hunting. It basically is a little hamlet southwest of Moose Jaw. There was the local hockey rink barn that the locals use to play hockey. I went inside and it was all gravel on the ground and no ice. Being naive and from Ontario I asked a guy in town when do you put the ice in? It is October after all and kids need to play hockey!...He looked and me puzzled and just said, when it gets real cold......Ahhhh, I see!

Oh my! Curling whilst wearing cowboy boots! Based on my own experience, not a very smart thing to do! I was curling at the Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton in 89, wearing cowboy boots to as my curling foot wear. With a bare boot on one foot and a toe rubber covered boot on the other. Second end, second rock I followed my rock to the hog line and things went dark for 15 minutes. So endeth my skipping career and my curling at the bonspiel! Spent 5 hours in the UofA hospital, 2 sets of head x-rays, 2 stitches on my scalp and a concussion! Funny thing is I cracked the ice , but not my skull, and bled all over the ice and managed to screw up one sheet of ice when the paramedics brought the gurney down the ice to carry me off!
