LOVE these shifters! I bought an original Hurst Super Shifter (without the reverse lockout lever) for my 1968 Torino GT. And you may not believe it, but that was a real driver's car! The shifter was easily the single mod besides the Shelby suspension stuff that made it so good. Wish I still had it... Thanks, Paul, for the video!

Just wanted to take a moment to thank you Paul, for making these instructional videos, and for making the 3-D printed jig available to the public for free. I was able to get a friend to print one for me, and used it today to re-assemble my original Super Shifter III. The results are fantastic!!. Everything went back together, just as in your video(s) Using the jig certainly made the process much less stress full . I even re-did the Plastic-Dip on the reverse Loc-out Tee handle. The shifter looks even better than when it was new. I had all my parts cerekoted in Armor Black ( a satin finish that looks great!!)...Wish I could show you a picture of the finished product. It looks great!. Thanks again for all you do, all your videos and literature are very helpful.

When you said the floor had to be cut, you weren't kiddin'. Back in those days I didn't care about keeping the car original and I just took a reciprocating to my Camaro floor and opened it up for the beefy Super Shifter 3 shift rods. I'd played around with the Mr. Gasket Vertical Gate shifter before coming back to the Hurst Super Shifter for reliable shifting at the drags and street use. Thank you for the memories.

Love your content Sir! Another great vid. I'd love to see a custome built synchro vid - design and fab of a synchro that is no longer available (e.g. 3.0l Taurus SHO or similar in my case). I've looked hard and long for design resources and guidelines, but I have found little to nothing, and I know you know WAY more about the world of manual transmissions than I every will. Thanks for another great vid!

My goodness that was fun to watch. After seeing what you've done here with the deburring, I'm going to take my comp plus apart and do that. I didn't even think to do it, which is silly because on the super t-10 rebuild I made sure to deburr every single thing as you taught. For anybody who wants to try, it really does make a palpable difference. Also...I think I'm going to put more grease this time. Alsoer....My comp plus didn't have a backer plate, or re-enforcing plate for the shifter. Gunna try fabricating something. ....then I'll have to reblue the shifter.....oh well! LOL. I keep learning so much from your videos. I wish I had learned this as a young man.

Used a couple of those over the years. The Vertigate was just as quick even though the throw wasn't as short. The Vertigate was kind of a double edged sword though. It eliminated the 2nd to 3rd mis-shift. But was a pain to use in traffic with the finger lever (not sure what the proper name is).

Excellent video you should have been a teacher aircraft mechanic school they had your mentality I very much like that kind of a personality ask about an inline shifter had maybe the vertigate I'm not positive I thought hers had one also were you just straightforward and straight back like a ratcheting shifter the reason I asked about this is I'm going to put a transmission on the back of a quick change rear end I'm building a mid-engine car that is IRS and I want the differential as close to the engine as I can get it so my question is about the inline shifter can it be made for constant usage and endurance type road racing application
@GearBoxVideo Жыл бұрын
Inline vertigate is different than a Sequential shifter vertigate was made for drag racing only

Just found your videos today, great stuff here. Any chance of doing a video on the super shifter with push-reverse?
@GearBoxVideo4 жыл бұрын
The Hurst with the push down reverse is not much different other than the spring. The one with the Red handle has a much more different mechanism. If you take the time to watch all my shifter videos you will be able to rebuild any type comp/plus and super shifter.

The best i can remember the first super shifters you had to push down on the shifter stick to shift into reverse. a friend of mine had one and it was a real pain in the Ronda, it get it in reverse
@GearBoxVideo2 жыл бұрын
Actuall the newer Long and Roltek shifters have a push down for reverse. The 3 speed shifter conversion was used because it automatically went from 2nd to 3rd.

I'm wondering if you could give me some advice. I have a new competition plus that won't slide left into the reverse gate. I've in a vice and in the car. I've put a lot of force, it just won't go left. Could it be just some burrs which need cleaning up. I'm confident in taking it apart but don't know if it would be a waste of time. Your advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Putting it in a vice does not allow clearance for the reverse plunger to exit the body

Along time ago in a land far far away i would put a hurst three speed master shifter on my Muncie's four speeds it had a spring-loaded reverse lock out so going from second to third you would not go back into first then i would run a rod through the floor with a knob on it and hook it to the reverse lever

@@GearBoxVideo Gotcha. The mount plates are different too, right?

Mount plates depend on application and the bolt pattern is the same from shifter to mount. So you can mount a standard Comp Plus shifter to a Super Shifter mount and linkage.
