@@LolliWren @jvoxfox both two great vocal coaches. Its great that teachers appreciate each other and no childish competitive crap exists. I've seen that positive appreciation with other coaches too & in these times of mental challenge of life its exactly what's needed, including the odd joint song discussion together which I've seen. If fact would love to see a "Vocal Coach verse and chorus swapping Christmas & Summer sing and chat extravaganza Because well fans of one coach tend to be fans of others because you're all unique, talented and typically lovely human singing beings but with many common observations. You could do a virtual get together of afew of you and then a physical get together of songs and even a "youtube tour". Just an idea Thank you Julia and Lolli

Holy shit.. Look, I've never heard of this artist before right now. But as an old dude who spent his teen years in the mid 90's listening to this album on repeat, I can honestly say that she did an absolutely incredible job with this cover. The challenge of doing a cover of an iconic song is finding a way to make it uniquely yours without destroying the essence of the original. That's even harder when there's already TWO iconic versions of that song. Somehow she nailed it too. The tremble in her voice absolutely sealed the deal. I don't usually give out this much praise but I'm honestly quite shocked right now. Great job.

You've done it When you first reacted to this song you brought up the fact that JC was able create a cover that he really related with. One that almost seem "written for him" as a means to portray what this song means at his stage in life. Well you have done it. This doesn't sound like a JC cover. It doesn't sound like a NIN cover. It sounds like a song written for you in this stage in your life. Thus proving that this song is really written for us all. A fact that is beautifully disturbing. Thank you and congratulations on a job well done.

I didn't fully comprehend the Johnny Cash version of this song until you, Lolli Fairy Wren, came along with your analysis of it. I THOUGHT I did. I liked his version a lot. It seemed profoundly heartfelt. it seemed, understandably, resentful. A kind of Dylan Thomas "Rage, rage against the dying .....". I knew it was a song about heartbreak. But it was only when you educated me, through your knowledge of vocal emphasis and meaning , and the empathy you showed as a truly feeling human being, that his performance hit me as hard as it should have originally done. You imagined yourself in his position, as a tender, vulnerable, gentle soul, in peril. When he was once a strong man, a rebel man, who might oppose suppression, endorse individuality and originality, and have a great love of artistic expression and freedom. You made me cry. Because you made me understand. And that made me feel. More. I cry a lot. I sing a lot. I did have a depressed period of a few years when I lost someone special and didn't even notice that I'd stopped singing. The doc gave me mind altering drugs. (Aren't they all? Hehe!). And I was back to a total bleedin' one man musical every day. Sane again. Though her loss will never be forgotten, of course. Soul mate. So now I have a question for you. You have such an astonishing vocal range. And vocal insight. You can impersonate almost anyone who sings. Male or female. So how the heck do you decide on exactly how you are going to sing this song in your own, inimitable style? What emotional instinct, what vocal instinct enabled you to narrow down things to your current vocal in the video above? Did you have any doubts? Or did you just fly like Icarus in the general direction of the sun, vocal speaking? Anyway, look, I like your version a lot. Completely different to J. C.s. (I haven't heard the Nine Inch version yet, though I do like some of their stuff already). Heartfelt. Sincere. And you made it your own. As Johnny Cash did. You are a special talent. And I now believe in faeries.

As someone who personally relates profoundly to both the NIN and Cash versions of this song, this was no easy task you took on here. In watching your other channel I've come to deeply appreciate your empathy. Your reactions are a treat to watch because you are very honest and open with the emotion that music invokes. I've long thought that music is just emotion given voice, and so it speaks to all of us. Sometimes it is joyous and sometimes it is bitter, but it's all emotion, and that is a universal language that we can all relate to. Thank you for adding another dimension to this song through your experience and emotions! It is beautiful, sorrowful, and I love it. I'm torn between feeling the pain and loving the talent. The variety of your technique for this song was a delight. I didn't expect the shifts after hearing the previous versions being sung in a single style throughout. It was refreshing and surprising. I never cared for the original, I loved Johnny's cover, and now I have yours to enjoy as well!
