Good cops also know their role (job description) is to stop the problem in the moment, prevent it from becoming worse, and then, if necessary get the person through the proper channels to be punished. His role as a police officer is not one of being the disciplinarian. He isn’t the judge. The judge is who we, as a civilized and organized society, entrust to mete out punishment. Don’t advocate for cops to step outside of their roles. There’s a hierarchy for a reason and some cops already don’t comprehend their job descriptions. They cost all of us money, and don’t keep any of us more safe by not knowing what their roles are. This cop handled this scene perfectly. Being married to a man who was previously married, I can say from my experience it USUALLY has nothing to do with the children - it has to do with their own hurt feelings and wanting to make the ex-husband suffer. The former wife isn't trying to do better for the kids, she's trying to leave a lasting, painful impression on that man. Her feelings come first - not that 1 yo baby girl. Don't kid yourself. And kudos to the officer 🫡 He has been one of the most compassionate and empathetic ones I've seen. In certain areas, it IS normal. I'm assuming you are from a different area, different social class, etc. from them. With low intellectual, low income, low emotional intelligence types, lashing out physically is normal. Edit: I get it, I worded it poorly. There are MULTIPLE FACTORS that go into such behavior being seen as normal. I gave one example of an entire culture suffering from many things at once which suddenly turns violence into a way to cope, to vent, "it just happens", whatever excuse they use to justify it. My parents were such, and I've lived among groups in multiple states just like it. (Ever been greeted with a nude neighbor having stolen a pig, dragged it via chain behind a truck to both transport and slaughter it, then make innuendo at you over it's corpse? That was Oregon, 2018, as I served with AmeriCorps.) At the same time, there are peoples of all social status that use exucse after excuse to defend anything. All I said was people tend to turn a blind eye to social violence when they've made it a common occurrence, meanwhile wife and husband and children beaters of higher economic status tend to KNOW they will get visited by CPS if anyone finds out... which, again, is why child me didn't have to wear long sleeves in one area, then we moved and I had to cover it all up (BECAUSE IT WASN'T ACCEPTABLE IN THE AREA WE MOVED TO, AND THEY WERE ALL MIDDLE CLASS). So, to paraphrase: When people care about violence and social interactions, they will hide their own and it will not be acceptable. But when people don't care about violence, maybe because everyone's doing it as a coping mechanism, then it's normal and no one cares. People with means care and will mask and hide behind closed doors, while people without means won't bother hiding and everyone will use bruises as talking points. Been there, done that, as a child and as an adult. (Edit: Fiction is based on reality, right? So think GoT. Everyone was violent and sexual and you name it in the books and on the show. But who hid it and tried to act holier than thou? Who tried to retain honor? Who didn't care and acted that way regardless of who saw or what rumors spread? Same thing irl, the people who value their reputation do not normalize animalistic behaviors, and such acts become scandals. Those who live with it out in the open, aka normal, have nothing to lose and choose to not reach for something better.) Will y'all stop thinking I'm shaming people? The whole point was who is this behavior normal among... as in not hidden/ accepted by...

One time walking in the mall a couple of girls whistled at me and at that moment she hauled off and slapped me. I was in and out of the E.R. many times getting stitches and i would say "i tripped on something". I worked 2 full time jobs and a part-time just to be sure we wanted for nothing. I felt like i wasn't a man. Wearing a bandana to hid the scars and any stitches. 1 day i was working and a friend said to me "your bleeding through your T-shirt", i was lost for words and just said "oh my cat jumped on my back and scratched my back". Im sure people knew i was being battered. I took the beatings and never raised my hand. The last was her hitting me with a coffee mug and almost lost my right eye, it took 13 stitches to close the gash on my forehead above my eye. I stayed to protect my infant son but he passed away from S.I.D.S, I packed my saddle bags and left on my Harley 20 minutes later never looked back.

I remember when my girls were little. I was with their mother for six years. She would get mad and swing with both hands hitting me in the face on both sides. I remember one day I just closed my eyes and counted how many times she hit me. It was 18. I am a big guy. 6 ft 235 lbs. At the time that was going on I was age 21 until I was 27 when we separated for good. She would shove me into the walls, throw things at me, once she threw a plate at me and it went right past my head and broke a kitchen window. It was 6 years of an abusive relationship and her cheating on me. The last time she hit me, I hit her back. 1 slap to the face. After that I decided that was enough, or rather that was too much. My dad always told me never to hit a girl, I told her that I could not be with her any more after that. I think about her often, she passed away from cancer in 2019 at age 42. I tell people all the time, she was the nicest person in the world, except when it came to me. I’m sure I wasn’t perfect. We were both young. She was 17 and pregnant in high school, so I can understand. But hitting people that you’re supposed to love and care about is not acceptable. We were able to talk it out and she asked me to forgive her, and I her, before she passed away. It still hurts sometimes. Our girls are 28 and 26 years old today and they know all about the violence in their and our past. What’s my point? It might not seem like a big deal and people don’t want to press charges but domestic violence has long lasting consequences. Don’t hurt one another.

I thought ur story will end like a hero's journey but it shows you didn't learn much and are a simp until today, although a bit lesser than before. Glad you don't have sons or they'd be getting slapped left and right by their women too

Man if they thought the smacks he got that night were bad just imagine how utterly pissed she was once she got out of jail.

Hopefully that time away from her, and the validation he must have felt by the police showing her that her actions weren't acceptable, gave him the space and energy he needed to assess the situation and protect himself. When you're in an abusive situation, it's easy to think that all you can do is take the abuse, but hopefully he saw things differently after that.

It seems that everyone saw the husband being abused but no one saw the nightmare of the abuse he put her through or even how long he put her through it. However no one but the wife was subjected to his mental and emotional abuse to her and no one knows for how long that's been going on either. I look at the whole pic not just what I saw in the end. Not judging either . However 2 wrongs do not make a right. This woman may have simply snapped from being abused with the emotional damage her soon to be ex husband has been doing to her. He may have felt guilty bc he didn't attempt to restrain her or make a scene as well as not wanting her to go to jail. Some cheaters do feel guilty when things get serious due to their own actions and behaviors.

That would be unfair to the child, she shouldn't have to lose her mother (on these grounds alone) and clearly by the wah the dad was reacting, he wouldn't want that either. Don't be so extreme.

The fact that he was being abused and stayed to be there woth his baby speaks volumes. Hopefully this helps him in court. Its very obvious she would make it hard to have a good relationship with his baby.

Idk he was really wanting her to be released, I wonder if it was because he didn’t want to have the responsibility of the kid full time

You’d run away without your child if your partner slapped you? I sort of think that’s what any of us would do, otherwise you’re leaving your child with the person who’s abusing you.

It's good that the hospital called the police. It may seem minor, but their situation could escalate. Best to prove a point about no violence, and no friction in front in front of their child, now.

So wait a minute, they have cameras in the rooms now in the hospitals? So now when someone is getting undressed or having a pelvic exam, some random security guys are watching it happen without us knowing. How is this even legal? The officer was very respectful

I don’t like it one bit..I was dying from covid two years ago and after I got off the ventilator I was paralyzed from neck down..I had to be treated like an infant bc I couldn’t do anything for myself..it was embarrassing enough being changed and wiped and cleaned and everything in front of the women and male nurses..now I have to think about the fact that some security guard was seeing me naked each day too😢😢😢😢

Yeah that was wild!! She doesn't feel bad or anything for what she did and she has complete control over him. Well, she did and she's losing it cause she's losing control so the violence is escalating. Yikes. Dad needs to get custody and get far away from mom.
