Story 1: I really hate to sound like a jerk, but personally, I feel like it's not just the family that's toxic, Liam needs to develop a stronger backbone. Yes, I understand they were pressuring him, but he shouldn't have given in the way he did. I know to an extent what it's like to be indecisive and the nice guy, but there's a time and a place to stay no and sticking to that no. And if Liam is going to be so easily swayed by them, who's to say he won't do it again? Edit: yes. I overlooked that they weren't married yet. Sorry about that.

Story 1: Okay, seriously, what is it with people proposing at someone else's wedding?? No wonder the OP is considering divorce here, i would too. There's no excuse for doing this, especially since the OP specifically said no to this. I think the idea of the OP having a special seperate party for Ben and Melody was a much better idea and thing to do...i dont get why they wouldn't do it. Honestly, i wouldn't have allowed Ben to make a speech at the reception, because the likelyhood of him doing this was very high... which he did. Also, i throw a ton of mud at Liam and Ben's parents here. They are probably the worst of all here. They favored Liam a lot at first, then switched to Ben.... but then to put a ton of pressure on Liam to allow Ben to do this.... that is just beyond awful and i do feel a little bad for Liam here. If the OP does stay with Liam... i say cut contact with his side of the family. They suck. Story 2: OP isn't a jerk here, but i think the ex-wife and stepdaugther are the overall jerks here. I get and understand that the stepdaughter views the OP as the dad's new wife and that the OP has argeements with the ex-wife on many things, but that is no excuse to act they way they are. When the stepdaughter is at the OP's house... the dad and OP are the ones in charge, period.. and they need to get over that. As for the husband here, he deserved the treatment that he got from the OP here. I dont know if 'hired help' would be the term i would use here, but he really shouldn't just have made those decisions on his own without talking to the OP here. Story 3: Okay, the OP's mother here is a complete scumbag and i really hope that the father intervenes here. If not, then screw both of them. I can definitely see the OPs frustrations here, this is so uncalled for. Also, whats the deal with all the bad comments from the mom here? She's definitely winning no 'mother-of-the-year' awards here... and i agree that the OP needs some kind of bank account that the parents cant access. Hopefully the OP is able to move out soon and cut contact with that terrible mom. Story 4: It's almost always bad owners or bad management that cause people to leave.... especially in the restaurant industry. If i were the OP, i would call out this manager for all their crap when you leave. Story 5: Yeah this is always awful, rude and inconsiderate. Apart from confrontation, i would get a lacrosse stick with a special 'poop-flinger' and return the dog droppings back at his house. I still remember that story on here a long time ago. If this continues and the police don't intervene, then i say get the garden hose whenever the neighbour and his dog show up again. Atfer all, he and the dog are tresspassing. Story 6: Again, mad managers that have to ruin things for everyone. I know i wouldnt want to work at this place, and i've worked a ton of restaurat jobs over the last 20+ years. Thoses managers are just power-tripping here, nothing else.

Is so strange for me listening to the first story and saying who’s fault is because in my country we have a tradition that the bride throws away her bouquet over her shoulder and multiple unmarried girls (usually her friends) try to catch it, if any of them catch it she will be the next to get married. Sometimes the bride just turns around and gives the bouquet to one specific girl and her partner proposes her. BUT this is specific to my country, and it clearly happens when the bride and groom are also ok with it.

Story 1: Definitely divorce. Liam is a wuss, and his family is toxic, selfish, and narcissistic. Story 2: If OP has no authority as a parent to the step kids, then OP has no responsibility to them either. Get a divorce. The husband has no right to volunteer out OP’s time in any way. Story 3: File a police report and a small claims suit against your mom, OP. Story 4: Typical idiot employers. Never properly train staff yet badmouth them behind their back despite the circumstances. Especially when the employers are so lazy. Story 5: Security cameras, lawsuit for nuisance and negligence, and a restraining order. Story 6: File a claim with the labor board, file a lawsuit against your employers. Make sure to record all interstate document every interaction, as there will be retribution for doing this.

Story one: it’s obvious to go little to no contact with that family but to be petty at their reception op should make a speech and at the end say “ I’m pregnant “ a eye for a eye As i read a few petty revenge stories that did this but in my opinion wouldn’t recommend and just skip the wedding
@davidalan67016 ай бұрын
Last story: At a certain point, you just have to say “I won’t be here for these 3 days. It’s up to you if you want me to come back after.” It sounds like they have just enough people to cover some days off here and there, not enough that they can afford to just loose you. Either way, start the new job hunt asap.
@michellecoleman55776 ай бұрын
story 1: I can see where OP and the top comment are coming from, and I'm usually one to scream to break up" at a betrayal of trust. But the way OP describes their relationship, themselves, and Liam, this is one of those rare situations where I feel like OP could work it out if they really try. Do they want to try? Idk, but should they give up on a relationship where there's clearly a lot of love because the family is toxic without at least trying to talk it out with Liam? I hope not.
@JonPoncho6 ай бұрын
Yeah I feel like jumping to divorce is extreme for this situation. Liam absolutely fucked up, but at the end of the day this seems like a one time thing where he was under a lot of pressure on one of the biggest days of his life and made a wrong decision. It happens, but if it's not a habit, I think it's something that you can move past if you work together and set boundaries with the family going forward. People aren't perfect. If you thought they were the love of your life a few days ago, you can stand to let them grow from their mistakes. At the end of the day, yes, it's tacky of the in-laws to take attention away from the bride, but it was a reception, not the wedding. Not saying it's excusable, but jumping to divorce is just too extreme IMO, when remediation is available.
@synthwolfe89066 ай бұрын
1st story: I've seen people propose while the bride and groom were at the alter. It's a LITTLE more understandable at the reception party, as then the bride and groom are usually not the entire center-of-attention.
@kiayatwixxer47366 ай бұрын
For the first story, I don't blame Liam. While he did the wrong thing by going behind the OP's back, he's not totally to blame. His life was a sh×t show for his entire life, and because of that, he became a people pleaser and a victim to his emotionally neglectful family. While I don't think you should automatically divorce him, it's best to take the initiative and stand up to your fiance since he's clearly not ready to do it himself yet.

Story 1: op is mad at the wrong person…. Her husband is autistic and his family took full advantage of that and basically forced him to say yes….. wtf imagine how this poor man feels when he thought he was doing something he was under the impression was okay, just to realize his family just pressured into ruining your marriage over some selfish crap….. ntm after the situation the whole family was talking about the proposal not the wedding

Story 1: if the OPs fiance will let himself be pushed over once by his dominating family there's a solid chance he'll do it again. It's a harsh reality, but I've seen it too many times to think that it's not gonna happen that way.

Story 1: Liam is a pathetic doormat who needs to grow some balls and cut contact with his exploitive family. Surely he must have known that his fiancé/wife would be upset at this. Whether wants to get an annulment or not is up to her, although to me does seem like the logical choice. Plus, if Liam is always sacrificing everything for his brother and parents, then he is never going to be happy and will eventually grow to resent them.
