11:01 Cubes & Buttplugs, hasbro’s lesser known board game involving sliding down snakes & sinking one’s battleship. Jokes aside, I have a senet board myself on the living room coffee table as I type this. Nowhere near Alfredo’s funnier name though as the pieces are too small for that, and they’re made of wood so trying also risks splinters. It’s a little bit different to TR4’s version: no ankh squares; only shield zones, a water pit, respawn square & all pieces follow the same path. Less chess & more backgammon.

If you lose the game of Senet, you may gain access to 5 secrets, but you also have to go through much longer and harder parts of the level. This is why losing it its both rewarding and punishing, just like some paths in real life I guess xD

I absolutely love these Alfredo play throughs. He is doing so well and I love his mistakes, especially when you edit them to have funny background music and the "some time later" scene. You two are funny, Chris and I love how you have a good husband point system going on, it's great entertainment from the pair of you. Thank you both for doing these videos.

Fun fact: Semerkhet was real but he was a pharaoh, not a priest. However, Egyptian religion often made the pharaoh high priest anyway in life and all others were simply to conduct sermons on his behalf as he couldn’t be everywhere at once. Priestly laws were kind of dumb too like no eating fish, you must shave your head & no shagging the day before prayers. How little has changed since the last not recent planetary alignment. The shaved head thing is also why the cult members in Young Sherlock Holmes are all bald.

As others have said, the route you take if you lose is longer & more boring with worse traps (such as smashing the butt plug shaped senet pieces with hammers) and a bit where you need to release an ice wraith to kill a fire wraith. However on PS1 the wraiths appear to be bugged & don’t kill each other, instead chasing each other everywhere Lara goes.

This level, „The lost Library“ and „Underneath the Sphinx“ are the best TR IV levels for me. Usually I’m not a fan of the TRIII type of the „you’ll miss half of the level, if you go this way“-style but „tomb of semerket“ redeems itself by beeing a masterclass of classic TR. Without the optional path it would even beat the library for me and be up there with „Temple of Xi’an“. I love watching you two playing through my favorite classic TR. Truely Core‘s „opus magnum“.

See Alfredo, you hear that you missed five secrets, what you don't hear is that it would be on a much harder path that includes fire wraiths, ice wraiths and rope jumping :D As for senet, I think the game pieces go on a set path, it's just not clearly indicated on the board (basically, they start at the front, then go back and forward again). And yeah, I also feel bad for the jacklas when I hear them howl, it sounds so cute and sad :( Well, congrats on surviving all the bugs and fire! The bugs especially can be very... frustrating. They drain health so quickly! Oh and congrats on winning the game of senet, of course :)

I never experience this route as I always lose! I try to convince myself I purposefully lose to get all the secrets but who am I kidding?! lol Anyways I really enjoyed watching it as I never get to see it as it’s so beautifully designed, everyone deserves to see it at least once.

It’s interesting to see the path you take when you win the game of Senet. Me being the “secret” completionist that I am I’ve always taken the losing path to get all the secrets. 😂

To be fair, "losing the Senet" path is also much more harder (hint: it involves rope swinging), so Alfredo might have saved himself from some headache there lol Also five secrets??? I thought you'd only lose one.

This is as far as I got on my last playthrough 🙈 I'll have to go play some more and come back and watch haha. I added tomb4 after you mentioned it, I'm not sure if it fixes any graphics bugs but it feels like it stopped textures flickering. I also used "Lossless Scalling" app so have 90fps...if you squint it feels like a Remaster 😆

Alfredo really enjoyed the game of cubes and buttplugs 🤭 I need him to keep making you clutch your pearls every episode cuz it's hilarious. In regards to the game "awarding mediocrity", well losing gives you a more difficult longer path. It spared him of some difficult ropes among other things like the spirits, he doesn't know what he dodged lol, but he will meet those later. Tho yea I always hated having to lose the game to get all secrets, perhaps a good alternative would have been to have the same number of secrets available on both sides. The early puzzle room with the beetles and torch is really annoying indeed. Having to throw the torch and pick it up in between "holes" is really not practical and i think you lose as much health as you do by just rushing through them without the torch. Now if the beetles actually reacted to the torch on the floor it would be a different story.
