I think the robots in this level are supposed to be based on shabti: clay golems in tombs intended as servants in the afterlife. 10 years or so later, Rick Riordan’s own story about Set & Egypt had full size shabti as robots Sir Terry’s Going Postal style. The TR shabti are bronze though, likely as clay robots would be too stiff in real life.

To kill the metallic knights, one needs to hit the blue crystal in the chest area. Works the same with the one on the horse. You need to keep to it's right side, because he has a shield on his left.

Also if you go back to meet Jean-Yves after getting each piece of Horus's armour you get a short in-game cutscene of him telling you where to go next

He also gives a bit of information too: Egyptian Adventure was owned by a local collector who was rumoured to own a piece of the armour. He was a fool according to Jean so the claim was in dispute. He vanished after boarding up the park, probably as the spikes made it violate health & safety codes, leaving the catacombs keys behind, implying he was intending to go after the piece in Temple of Poseidon but either he had to flee before he was arrested for the spike traps or Von Croy got to him first. Later he warns Lara Set’s army of darkness has begun to move into the city and gather at the ancient sites, scaring Von Croy’s workers out of the tunnels. He also says the library of Alexander the Great was basically the world’s first university “full of knowledge, puzzles & invention”. Returning to him after the library, he warns Lara that Werner will become desperate & therefore more dangerous now he’s lost the armour which is proven right later especially as Set was controlling him all this time. He tells Lara to use the rude shaped keys to enter Cleopatra’s palace and chides her for sightseeing.

Good to see Alfredo enjoying one of my favourite Tomb Raider levels of all! Regarding the horseman, I think the "official" way of defeating him is by aiming at the jewel in his chest with the laser sight, but it's really, really hard, since he doesn't stay still. Also, I remember I never saw the drawing of the planets on the ceiling but I managed to solve the planetarium puzzle by following the geocentric model of the solar system and that really stayed with me cause it was one of the moments I felt most accomplished ever! haha

I believe you can get thought the blades around the poles by turning towards one the corners and climbing as the blade approaches the opposite corner. Because you have half a rotation cycle instead of a fourth, you have more time to go up before the blade reaches your place.

Thank you Chris and Alfredo for making these first time playthrough videos. Absolutely love them. And yes Chris, I too would love a remaster of this game. The 123 remasters blew my mind with how good they are and I know it would do the same for me to have this and Chronicles also be remastered. AOD remaster or remake would also be fantastic, but I know it would be a lot of work so I won't hold my breath on that one, at least

Do you know I was stuck in the Library for months on my first playthrough ? Especially at that part with the water tunnels. For some reason, the grid leading to the two golden stars would never open. And for some reason also, wheels sometimes stopped turning and flames burning after swimming back and forth, from an exit to the other. Never quite figured out the logic behind it. When I played it again I dreaded this part because of that. Apparently there's a known bug that can make your life miserable.

Nouuuuuu I so much hoped Alfredo would figure the planetarium puzzle on his own! 😂❤ I remember googling images of the Ptolemaic system to solve it and it made me feel very smart! 1000 husband points for helping him out though ❤

My way of defeating the horse guy boss was to go to that room with the pulley system for accessing the secret and get him wedged in the corner *exactly* below the slide on which that pulley system is placed. Once wedged there he can't navigate out of it no matter where you move. The ropes and gears you shoot at are on top of a sliding surface BUT if you get the horse guy wedged into the corner there, you can jump onto the sliding surface and slide forward into the horse guy and sort of just hover over him while he keeps swinging and missing. THEN you can equip the scope and shoot out the gem in 2-3 tries. Your view will shake a bit because of the dodgy physics, but it's the only way to keep him still enough and land a clear shot using TR4's wonky controls.

I was hoping for Alfredo to figure out the planet puzzle by himself, but on the other hand it's good he knows about the binoculars (and their light!) now becasue it's so useful but lost of people don't know about it. Ah yes, the damn spinny wheels when you're climbing a pole, I think they're one of the worst TR traps because it just feels so difficult not to get hurt on them. I'm sure speedrunners have tricks though.

I always hated this boss and this level in general because of this whole section of it & the planetarium puzzle so cheesing one part of the worst section is a godsend.

I remember getting through The Lost Library on my own being one of the most rewarding experiences I've had in all of the Classic Tomb Raider games. I takes a little bit of time to figure out all of the puzzles, but there are always enough hints so that it doesn't feel unfair or illogical. It is great level design, focussing on the strengths of the (somewhat limited) game engine, as is the Alexandria section as a whole. It is very enjoyable to reexperience this through your eyes (and fingers).

I remember the lost library being the demo level for this game… and I got completely stuck in it. Back then, I didn’t have a clue with the planets, the horse rider or the burning floor. Kept wondering if this was really a good choice for a demo area if a lot of players are just going to get completely stuck and give up on buying the game at all, but after finishing it I kept playing the demo waiting to get the full punishment, er, I mean game on Christmas day. Also looks like I’m going to experience deja vu on Sunday after watching yesterday’s original video. 🤣

Yes, I remember the demo. I used to play the Tomb Raider demos every day for weeks in anticipation for the release day, exploring every polygon. It was an odd choice to present one of the later levels, but I guess it was supposed to show that The Last Revelation is going back to the roots of the original game, being about ancient tombs and puzzles, but without any context given I remember feeling a little lost, too, compared to the previous demos.

@@fractalcore7691 Yes, despite the frustrations it was still exciting times for us TR fans, trying out the new capabilities, seeing the new graphics, that smooth-looking new lighting, increased amount of scenery objects and detail and the new Lara character model… now with dynamic skin! 🤣 The kind of excitement that, at least for me, the games wouldn’t match again until the remasters earlier this year. Here’s hoping for that 4-6 trilogy remaster. 🤞🏻

You can kill the horse guy by shooting at the gem. Stay on his axe side and just shoot at him with pistols. Same with the enemies that don't have horses. Just shoot at them from the axe side so the shield can't block your shots 👍

You CAN defeat the horseman with just pistols but you need to shoot at him from the side (I believe the non-axe side) so that the bullets hit the gem.

The horseman isn't that difficult. I never tried the shotgun on him though - with the pistols or uzis they always make an audible 'ahhh' noise so you know when they are hit. It's hard to know when your shotgun blast is hitting him or missing. They only take damage when they're gem is hit.

Sticks and stones may break his bones, but chains and whips excite Alfredo 🤭 honestly I was thinking whoever designed those traps must be into S&M lol. Lost library is such a marvelous and intricate level, and it's so fun to traverse and discover every bit of it... Except for that pole trap set, it really is so obnoxious, is there even a way to fully avoid damage on the way up? I don't think. BTW, there was a desync audio issue from you guys towards the end.. then it seemed to fix itself. The gameplay was fine the whole way tho.
