Alcohol isn’t the problem, millions & millions of people around the world drink alcohol & their lives are perfectly fine. The problem is addiction, a disease of the mind (and body), but mostly the mind, that’s why addiction is considered a mental health disorder.

So they guy works all week and then drinks in his own home on the weekends and their response is “he’s a dangerous alcoholic and everything is his fault”…. That’s insane, we don’t even know how much he drinks, what he does or how much he spends, they just jumped to the worst conclusion about this guy without even looking at any other factors as well as the possibility she is overreacting to a guy drinking on the weekends which is completely normal.

You can tell there’s a good amount of people in the comments who either didn’t grow up around a drinking problem which is good or think drinking every week three days straight to the point the budget goes off the rails is okay. Like this isn’t healthy. I’m glad this was only 6 months and not 6 years. Anyone would be considered an alcoholic if they drank half the week.

Growing up my dad was a violent alcoholic who lost his job because he got drunk, beat up my mom and made a complete ass out of himself. He would be so drunk that he would be passed out in his truck at the stop lights and my mom would go through his pockets just to get money for groceries so we could eat. It was awful. This woman definitely needs help because people who are in any kind of active addiction are not safe to be around.

I so relate to what you witnessed. I don't have alcoholics in my family but I grew up in a town with rum distilleries and pubs and 99.99% of the men who worked there were drunks. On Fridays they go to the bars and drank. The wives/ girlfriends would go to the bar pleading with them for money to go to the supermarket. They had none left. Their kids would beg lunch money at school and I would give them. The dads were an embarrassment to their children. They would come to the principal office drunk asking to see their children. The dads died early too.

I've caused massive strain in my prior relationships because of alcoholism. Not to mention the financial, mental, emotional, and sometimes even physical damage I'd do to myself. I finally decided that being better started with me. The responsibility was ultimately mine. The addict needs to want to change and take action to make that change. You can't have others help you if you don't help yourself. I'm now 9 months sober, and I had been 6 months sober before slipping up once.

Im gonna agree with troyanthony a little bit. The Dave Ramsey show is fine to listen to. I've noticed though that the show has turned into a therapy/counseling/ marriage/child advice show now instead of a financial show. Also when couple's who are having trouble within the marriage call for financial advice "John Delony" puts words in the couples mouth. He adds on a lot more than what the woman or man is talking about. I can hear much of the time that John adds to and gives his input without the person who called in even has a say so. Let that person who called in "speak" and dont interrupt John. Let that person tell you how they feel, not what you assume🙄. This show should be called The Dave Ramsey clinical hour. Its not the same anymore.

Heres the reality, if you are subjugating your family to discomfort and pain due to your own internal struggles, you are not truly loving your spouse, kids, family, friends. Internally you can love your wife to the moon and back, but if youve made her unsafe, or put others in danger, its not love. Thats what Delony means by behavior is a language.

@@purplerainx99 Only people who have never been truly in love say this crap. Dude pain is unavoidable, period. Just because my wife can cause me or our kids pain in life does not mean she does not love me. Sometimes it’s just a by product of their internal struggle or hardship, but it has nothing to do with them not loving me. It’s them not loving themselves. People have truly gone soft in the relationship domain. Just get thicker skin and have more patience, even if it means creating space in a healthy manner. You guys act like she’s getting her knocked around or something. And I doubt that’s the case🫡. Dudes just weird for throwing her man down like that, even she hesitated to agree.

I also learned how I personally was part of the problem. So it was educational and I had support while I was trying to figure out what I was going to do. We have no idea if the caller's husband is an alcoholic or if he even has an alcohol addiction. Does he drink 3 beers on Friday night, 3 beers on Saturday and then a couple on Sunday?? Hardly an addiction. Does he go out and do this? If so, there may be a whole different reason, like maybe hanging out with friends, meeting new people, taking a break from his wife, etc. This is what should be explored. On the other hand, does he drink nonstop starting Friday after work until bedtime Sunday night? Nonstop being, say, three 12 packs? That would be different. But honestly, if a person is an alcoholic, they would not be able to be off of alcohol during the weekdays. John should know better and stop scaring people who call in.

What the actual fuck is wrong with this dude 😂 I swear, John is a literal predator. There is absolutely no reason he should be doing this as much as he does- plants seeds in women’s heads that their husband is abusive and that they should leave. You can tell in these ladies’ voice they don’t really believe it, but he’s in an authority position so they start questioning themselves. *John* “So you tell me your husband is gambling a little too much- but what you’re actually saying is you’re terrified to be around him, RIGHT?” *Caller* “My husband drinks a lot and it’s messing up our finances. That’s really the only issue” *John* “You need to take both you and your children and hide. You’re clearly in danger.”

What you can hear in their voices is him telling them what they don't want to hear but they know it's the truth. Addictions destroy families, doesn't matter if it's the husband or wife. He's advising them to remove themselves from that situation, then it's up to the addicted to change it. The hesitancy in their voices is that they know he's right, but they just don't want to face it. It's a destructive relationship.

You can see Deloney's own prejudices shining brightly through on this one, chaps. Didn't bother taking any numbers or even checking the caller was contributing to the household herself in any way, just went straight for the victimized wife story. For shame. The guy drinks at home to relax and wind down - that alone probably says that he's somewhat conscious of the need for budgeting. Think how much more expensive it would be if he were doing it at a bar.
