I have to agree with you on the food issue. We have two freezers, a pantry, and cupboards full of food that we need to use up before we buy anymore. I have always had plenty but stocked up even more with rumors flying around the past few years. After watching the news this week, I am glad to have a little extra to get us through these uncertain times. Providing for our family comes natural to wives and mothers, don't feel bad about that.
@gracielee4561 Жыл бұрын
Tessie, don't be ashamed of the food issue. I'm 68 now and when I was a kid I was raised on a farm. We worked hard and always had what we needed but not everything we wanted. We were all used to not asking for much. I will never forget this..one year one of my Dad's long time friends came to visit us. They wanted to go to the nearest larger town about 17 miles away. My Dad told them I could show them how to get there. Once there they told me I could buy what ever I wanted! I couldn't believe it I had so many options so...my response was that I wanted to go to the grocery store! They thought that was so funny but I realize that after all the decades that have passed my response would be the same! Some of us are just plain and simple foodies!

Tess for me I have been in a place in my life where I raised five kids on my own with no help. I owned my own home and cars and couldn't get help.. we had a hard few years.. and I grew gardens harvested neighbors gardens when they were finish putting up what they wanted. Bought sale items and stored it away... I have been where we didn't have food.. and I made a promise to my kids they would never have to live Thur that again... With all that being said.. I am a firm believer in food storage. I am a fire believer in having a well stocked house... But only things we will use... My pantry has saved us many times and when 2020 hit it saved family members as well... But like you I have to keep myself in check as I can go overboard... I believe it was because I know and have felt hunger.. and it's not fun..

You are absolutely not alone! I am addicted to clearance sales. I'm getting better. I also did not grow up handling finances. My husband paid all the bills. I don't have to watch my spending, but that does not discount the fact that I am required, by God, to be a good steward of what He has blessed me with. I'm also required to be disciplined and have boundaries in every area of my life. When I get out of control with my spending, I feel God take my face in His hands and turn my face to His face and say, very sweetly, very gently, "You need to stop." Stopping is not easy. It does not feel good. But what I do is put some guidelines in place and with the help of God, follow them. Thank you for this video. Thank you for all your videos!!!

Tessi, you are not alone in this at all! When "the world is coming to an end" mentality kicked in a few years ago, I bought and stored a lot (it's just hubby and me). In the past 6 months or so I had a realization that I had too much. I also realized with just 2 people, we don't consume that much food. I made it my goal to eat down this hoard. I had frozen veggies and potatoes in the freezer that were getting severely freezer burn. I turned them into various soups and ate them. I had pork, beef and poultry that I acquired from my son. I just kept pulling out an item and making into something for dinner. I have also hoarded up toiletries and cosmetics and same thing, I just keep using what I have. I have only been buying fresh fruits, veggies and dairy. I was also loving the thrift stores for decor justifying that it's inexpensive. I recently realized I have a bunch of decor boxed in the basement of family things. So now I've been shopping my basement. I was mad at myself for letting it get out of hand, but am now just happy that I've turned this around. Even a couple times this week, after visiting family, I was driving home and thinking how some Panda Express would taste so good for lunch. Then I think about what that one meal would cost, and how I can eat at home. It's not easy as I still want that Panda Express, but I am not going to do it. So see, we all have a story.

Hi Tessie! We are all feeling the pinch financially. I like buying food too! My daughter called me, and told me about her plans to step out in faith. I am very proud of my daughter, who just became an entrepreneur. She is working from home! She is creating journals and calendar planners. She is working from home! Well, her calendar planner included a section of spending and finances! I told here everyone needs that calendar planner! We all go through periods of excess and lack. Pulling back on spending is wisdom. Well, Tessie, you have prepared your household well, for the leaner times. You are indeed a Proverbs Woman. Here is the justification for you. You have known lack and thrive anyway. A wise woman rises early in the morning to prepare the meal for her family. She works with her hands. Her husband is blessed, because he lacks nothing and can trust his wife fully. Her children rise up and call mama, blessed. Tessie, you are worthy of such praise. Hugs!

Even as I sit here right now, I realize that I just told my hubby that I want to can some beans this week. And then someone gave me some lovely canned beans. Are they like the ones I can? Yep, guilty as charged. My one sister and I got it honestly from our dad. We can't pass up a sale on food! If it's a great buy, it's not one or two extra, it might be a case extra. Meat? Several packages! And yes, I have been dehydrating since I discovered your channel. Now I make my teas that I grow, seasonings, etc. Plus, I dehydrated vegetables for soup in the future. Thanks, Tessie! ❤

I'm with you on that one. Food is a thing for me too. This subject has been on my mind today too. I have my kids and grandkids over on Monday night's and I over do it. They all go home with enough for another meal and often plates to drop off with Great grandparents. Like you I love shopping for food sales. I need to cut back as well. Most of us probably have the same thought of stocking up a little extra and canning and preserving also. I enjoyed your sweet video.

I squirrel things away as well Tessie. Fabrics, clothes food.. . This is just being responsible in my opinion 🤷. I like to cook and eat lovely food as well. I used to be v overweight but I managed to lose 4 stone about 10yrs ago and I've kept to a normal weight . I still love to eat ,I don't eat between meals and this is how I reduced my weight slowly. You are a great lady Tessie and I bet your children were always fed and dressed adequately. A lot of people today can't cook,sew,knit .... They suffer now as times are very hard world wide. If they watched your videos they'd see how to pull through 😊. Please keep making 🙏 your beautiful ,enchanting videos 😍 Thank you from 🇬🇧 ❤

Lol I love it! My aunt Doris ( who raised me) had a food hoarding problem due to growing up during the depression. Even though I have never experienced the depression I too have a problem with needing to have a supply of food on hand. In normal circumstances this wouldn’t be an issue but now we are living in a 30 foot trailer it is a challenge 😂😂. It’s nice not to feel alone in this need! Thanks Tessie for a much needed chuckle today! ❤

I like buying food too, Tessie. When I feel stressed out or anxious, being able to open up the fridge or pantry and see food stacked up is so comforting!

Mine would be vitamins and supplements! I guess that's not a bad thing, I just want hubby and myself to be healthy! And we did go to $general this evening and got some canned food items with the 5.00 off 25.00 coupon.

My guilty confession is... I need to stop buying clothes that I don't need. I spend more money on clothes than anything else. As of right now I quit, no more clothes! I will never wear all the clothes I have in this lifetime. No more

Each time you say 'tightwad,' I think of the library books I have checked out right now, The Tightwad Gazette volumes 1 & 3. There is a 'Complete Tightwad Gazette' which contains 1, 2 & 3, plus another section at the end.

This has got to be one of my favorite videos! Love your confession. I think everyone has their favorite thing to buy. A weakness... That one thing that's irresistible! For me its candles, but my favorite shop closed a few years ago. So, I used up my "collection" for a while. Then I tried different companies & even found new things I enjoyed. But there's just something about candles. So, I back to buying my favorite candles, but try to have a limit (budget & space). Its definitely about finding the right balance.

Oh Tessie, that was THE BEST video you ever made! Omg, you're so cute confessing your guilty pleasure. You had me laughing when you were sitting on your deck confessing. I think it was the look on your face. I'm sorry, but I had a good laugh. You were so cute, like a little kid who got caught or something. Loved it!
