Engineers with the white over blue armband worked in the Signals Corps, hence the telegraph poles and wiring. My grandfather was one on them with the 36th Ulster Division, served through the whole war. We will remember them.

The Royal Corps of Signals wasn’t formed until 1920. The role was carried out by elements of the Royal Engineers during WW1. You can see the RE cap badges on these soldiers.

Just imagine this movie was made 50 years after WW1, when there were still many veterans alive to tell their story. Today both WW2 and Korea are further in the past with most veterans now gone, you would have to look at the Vietnam War, Yom Kippur and even Afghanistan to be in the same ballpark. These were modern wars and even ongoing wars when I was young, but today the veterans are old men.
