Thanks Travis and Foc for having the BEST pod cast on air. Doc just wondering what kinda surgeon you are. Love listening to this pod cast. Was an Omaha resident for 26 years and remember Travis on Fox TV and also a guest on Todd and Tyler glad you have this podcast. Good luck on many more years together. I now reside in Bossier City La. After retiring in 2000 and love living in the south but still a Husker Fan but my fuse is getting burnt down and I need a Husker 6th win and I need them to smash Iowa so keep filling me in on the insight on the Huskers. Doc like your ASU volleyball t shirt. I follow the Lady Huskers very closely and love those girls and Coach Cook. So please keep up on all your success on the Podcast Cast. I did some googling last night… Matt Rhule is 12-54 since his days at Baylor when his defense gives up 17 or more points. So basically the defense either plays lights out every game or you lose. The trend has continued here but it’s even worse- we haven’t won yet when allowing more than 14 points. That is beyond fucking bad. He’s had one good year at a relevant position- year three at Baylor. The other two years at Baylor, his entire time at Carolina and his first two years here have been underwhelming to say the least. Inkjow im early to the party but its time to find a new coach. Preferably somebody with lots of Big 10 or SEC experience. NU can’t afford to hire another Big12/PAC12 coach. Tired of these soft ass teams that won’t finish. Rant aside, thanks for continuing the podcast thru these dark times. Doc Talk is the only thing left in Husker Land that isn’t goddamn depressing. Keep keeping it real 👊🏻

Your stats on Rhule are wrong. At the Carolina Panthers, his overall record was 11-27. He was 1-27 when allowing 17 points or more including 25 losses in a row. Now the last stat is his entire coaching record. He was fired at the Panthers for poor offenses. His offenses ranked near the bottom in the NFL.

For the first time in a long time, I have sort of come to grips with the fact that we don’t have the talent caliber some of the top teams do within the B1G and even NCAA. I also think some guys that came in expecting to be “game changers” haven’t really produced (yet). A lot of young guys for sure but what I haven’t seen from Rhule yet (year 1 to year 2) is development and progression.

I vote we start having open practices to the public. Or at least the skirmishes. This gives them the presence of pressure even during off season training and in season training too. Not sure of the rules with that but I think that would help them get more comfortable with being under pressure

Harberg should absolutely be on the field for NO LESS than 25 plays the rest of the way… motion the hell out of him out of the H-back position. He will be fine! If your true freshman 5🌟 QB can make it 10 games as the starter Harberg will only add to winning!

I mean this with all sincerity. Could you ever go through a play breakdown video but instead this time show me what a hold is and what isn't a hold on the line - a couple examples. I know you've mentioned before you don't mind the arm wrapping thing, so I'd like to know what a hold is on the line because I feel like I have no absolute what counts and doesn't count anymore. I can only think of a couple series where USC didn't "hold" in my mind on the line, but it never got called so obviously I'm in the wrong on what holding is these days. There were so many jerseys that needed adjustments after each play and there were so many USC defenders with their chest on the back of a O-line player and the USC players ARM completely wrapped around their head; O-Line player's eyes facing straight upwards as they were being held back - but not called a hold. So i'm just really trying to understand so I don't get frustrated at these games. There were also a ton of jersey pulls on the line yet none of those get called.

I am not sure that Holgerson wants a head coaching gig at this point. One of the knocks on him was that he was not real keen on recruiting as an HC. Now with portal and NIL, he could be happy being an OC, ala Chip Kelley. He is not in need of $$ at this point.

And it's not a curse. It's a combination of poor coaching in critical moments and that deer in the headlights coaches transforming to the players. Saw Tony White staring into the headlights a couple of times Saturday and some of the D were holding their arms up like "what's the call?" Shit's real and they gotta problem.

Bill Snyder's K-State teams were a lot more consistent than Dr. Rob is giving them credit for. From 93-03 they won 9 at least 9 games in 10 out of 11 seasons including 6 11-win seasons. I think Nebraska people think teams are more consistently great than they actually are due to TO. Yeah Snyder had some down years toward the end of his career but other than TO almost every coach has the occasional down year. Pete Carroll, Barry Switzer, Bear Bryant, Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, etc all had multiple seasons with 4 or more losses. I don't think the portal/Juco approach inherently leads to more instability it's just being consistently great is damn near impossible.

The issue with Nebraska football is not coaching or players, its the fanbase. Washington last year made the NC game and look at them now awhen there coach bailed. Even if Nebraska was to get a "REAL" coach and win some games, that coach will not stay. Nebraska simply is NOT a destination job for any coach. Osborne was a fluke and curse for Nebraska. Nebraska will NEVER win another NC. Not only should fans be happy that the Huskers make a bowl game, that should be the expectation every year. Nothing more. And if every 4 or 5 years they win 7 plus games the fans should be ecstatic. Put it this way. If a fan believes Nebraska can consistently win 7 plus games I would say thats like hitting a 10,000 dollar scratcher. If a fan actually believes Nebraska can win another NC in say the next 20 years, I would say one has a better chance of winning the lottery.

Fans don’t play… Nebraska could’ve had a few in demand coaches & chose Coach Rhule, who was also in demand as a college coach. If Indiana, ASU, and Colorado can turn things around, it’s possible for Nebraska, with superior resources and support, to do the same. Whether the Huskers will or not remains to be seen.

Usc receiver coming in out of bounds to catch the ball on his first step in bounds The usc option play that had a downfield hold yanking hartzog to the ground in front of the ball carrier I think some of the other no calls that set up usc touchdowns were more frustrating than a no pi call on a last chance pass into double coverage

Ppl keep saying matt rhule just needs more time to get in his guys and develop his players. I mean at this point what have we seen that proves that matt rhule is going to improve and develop. The guy has great facilities, assistants coaching the assistants being paid a shit ton of money. Nebraska football is just bad product and its 100 percent this coaching staff that is putting out this product.

The coach at Indiana has proven that a new head coach can make a big difference in the first year.
@citizenbobx2 ай бұрын
Devaney won in his first year, and Osborne, Solich, and Pelini. Frost, Riley, and this guy have not. Rhule had trajectory on those previous stops, but they weren't the Big Ten, and we hoped for that miracle, anyway. For the most part, you know what you have in that first year, though. At best, you're going to get some up-and-down Bill Callahan thing going on, only you never get to find out, because they're already fired.

@digger110002 ай бұрын
@mikemadden3967 No, he is not. You can't say that when he is 19 and 1 year removed from high school, that is ridiculous. He will improve, and the Big 10 is no joke. Oregon got held to 16 points by Wisconsin. So is their QB 3rd string? This league is tough even for a senior, let alone a freshman. He is working in a bad scheme and doing the best he can.
