Thanks so much for these videos! Partly based on Your (and other) vids, I got my dad a 540i XP with a BLi 300 battery for christmas. He's a life long Husky man, ran the 245 for about twenty years and then switched to the 357 XPG when the 245 was discontinued. After retirement he'd been using some random chinesium Stihl copies and I really felt bad for him, thought he really should have something nice for going after firewood during his retirement. He absolutely loves the saw and tells me that every time I go to visit. He feels the high chain speed, the ease of use, the narrow chain, the low noise (he gets up EARLY :D) and pretty much everything else about the 540i XP is fantastic. He specifically told me to not get him anything for his birthday since the saw is so awesome :) Thanks again for the in depth and down to earth reviews!

I always get an education with every one of your videos, and find a new way to look at the use of a chainsaw. I have an ancient white oak, over 100+ years old, that fell in one of my back fields near Splendora, Texas. I don't want to just cut it up for firewood as some of the branches are 31" in diameter and the base is over 4' wide for about 10' before you hit the rotted out section. I'm trying to find someone with a slabbing mill that can handle the big stuff and plan to get an 18" Husqvarna chain saw to cut the branches into manageable 8'-6", 10'-6", or longer sections for making planks and large sized boards. You have convinced me that the Husqvarna is a better option for me than the Stihl, and the warranty helps sell the saw even more. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, and showing us that you can have a passion for your work and enjoy the art of using a chainsaw successfully.

Thank you. I do trail maintenance and while I do have a 536lixp, it has limitations. The 540ixp definitely has more power, which should lessen the time per cut and allow for more cuts per battery. It is heavier, but the amount of metal around the sprocket makes the weight difference worth it. Now it has been many years since it came out, but I did order the 540 through Husqvarna since the discounts stacked and I was able to get the kit for $800 to my door. Still a crazy amount, but watching this now, I'm happy I went with it. And the saw is made in Sweden and the battery in Poland, so that is a big plus.

This is a torture test of not only the saw, but even more of the battery. Battery Technology has come a long way in the last 10-15 years. Like you said, "battery management" is the key with lithium batteries. Without the integrated battery management, these incredible new devices would not be safely possible. When the saw stopped the first time, it was probably a thermal cutoff. Lithium cells don't "recover" like the older battery technologies would do. How hot was the saw and battery when you got finished?

i bought a 20v dewalt, mostly for limbing and clearing brush. but it has found a home in my truck for clearing trails and camping on state land. were they don't allow gas saws. late night fire wood cutting , doesen't bother other campers or neighbors. battery saws definitely have there place. nice video. thats a definite upgrade. and a fast cutter.

Impressive performance. The real test is head to head with a gas 540 how much fuel to how many batteries. Of course cost to purchase and operate is still by far the gas, but definitely getting a lot closer. Battery technology has really improved dramatically in last couple of years. I bought a $50 china made (just because I needed something fast and it was so cheap) plastic 20 volt chainsaw with a 10in bar. I was actually able to fall 22 medium grade trees between 6-12in diameter all random sizes. I was quite surprised, especially when I first pulled the trigger, electrics don't spool up, they bite right now! I can't imagine how much more power that 540 has, wow. The 22 trees I cut were spread over a 4 acre property, that 540 would probably cut over 200 trees in the same medium density grade of timber. You didn't even give the battery a chance to cool down at all. Here in Hawaii the 540i is $600 on average, probably a bit less there on the Mainland. Aside from new technology, if Husqvarna could reduce that price point to $750 or so, that saw would absolutely be a hands down favorite! Great video Tim!

I was not a fan of the battery takeover until I ran a friends Kobalt weed eater. I was sold in 5 mins. The ethanol that’s being added to gasoline is killing small engines. All of my gas weed eaters, saws, log splitters, etc. hate ethanol and it’s becoming a pain to go out of the way for non ethanol. It’s making the battery options all the more prevalent

We’re getting close to the point where battery power is good enough to replace 2 stroke gas powered stuff aren’t we? If you’re a guy who uses a chainsaw for 2 or 3 weekends a year cutting firewood or cleaning up around your property I don’t know why you would pick a gas saw over something like this with a couple batteries. I still have a big gas powered saw but all my smaller stuff has been sold off for battery powered stuff.

Just after all that cutting was your battery capable of start charging right back? I have the Stihl MSA300 I think it have more power but if I cut continuous as you did till battery finish then when I put the battery on the charger a red light go on and it not charging, the battery is hot sometimes takes the charger 500 about 20 minutes just to cool off the battery.
@cotontop32 жыл бұрын
Yes it’ll charge after all that cutting. The saw blows air through the battery to help keep the battery cells temp down. Also the charger blows air through the cells when it’s charging.
@sirvozelo12 жыл бұрын
@@cotontop3 The Stihl MSA300 blows air to because the saw even have an air filter that we suppose clean and the charger also blows air but maybe not enough. Every time I use the batteries on the MSA300 continuous like you did at the end I can feel the battery hot and the charger takes a wile to coo of the battery. Maybe husky cooling system is better.

There is battery protection system. Battery operation temperature is -10 to 40 degrees C. If you try use 540iXP saw directly -35C you can't. You have to keep saw and battery in warm place; take it and go. When you start sawing, usage keep battery warm enough.
