I've never understood why someone would be willing to spend ~$1000 on a saw, and not bother taking care of it. The type of damage we see all over the saw here is an indication of abuse by the owner, imo. Good job repairing what you could, man!

I agree with what you're saying. This one almost looks like it fell or had a limb dropped on it.
@albertkropp11 ай бұрын
@@TheGreasyShopRag Yeah, it could've been a limb, but personally I would still consider that misuse, because I always keep my saw in hand when felling or something, so that if I have to move, the saw moves with me, and if I put it down, I put it in a place that is safe from being hit by debris. I look at my saws as tools, and if I take care of my tools, then they will take care of me. Makes it worth the expense of investing in one, imo.

@@albertkropp Thats a good way to manage your tools. Its crazy how many saws come in damaged from being hit with a falling limb or run over. Another problem I don't hear many people talk about are the saws that get thrown in a truck full of brush and then dumped into a pile. Later they are found while pushing up the pile. Sad.

@@TheGreasyShopRag Very unfortunate. Honestly I think a lot of the complaints about the main brands come more from misuse than the designs themselves.

Scott, I just found your channel 2 days ago and have been watching it since. I love the format you use where you d o the video and then do the voice over. Also, I love the way you explain everything where even I can understand. I am a husky fan and own 4 of them. I have 372xp, 455 rancher, 136, and a T435 and love all of them. Thanks for the videos!

I have a 390xp that I bought from a logger in Northern NY, saw is only 6 years old but man that thing looks like it's 25. Saw runs awesome though, only paid $250 for it.

Always handy to have a donor saw rather than buy new parts,good work bud....later.........

Ya we try to keep some stuff around without creating a used parts monster in the shop.

I would be embarrassed to drop off my equipment for service and not clean it up beforehand.

You are in the minority. Sometimes I think they just bring them in to be cleaned.

Looks like a well used saw. I bet I could blindfold you and you'd be able to identify most chainsaws by touch
@TheGreasyShopRag11 ай бұрын
Huh, never thought about that before. I could probably get down to a series but not exact model. Too many similar saws with just different size engines.

Tossing equipment into the back of a truck is real good way to break such things. A scrap of heavy leather makes a very good fuel tank guard per Donnie Walker.
@TheGreasyShopRag11 ай бұрын
That leather will work well. The problem is with people that don't realize they need a guard there until its too late. Just had another one come in with a hole in the same place.
@elitelifex293411 ай бұрын
Yeah, why would anyone not take care of an expensive piece of equipment. If only you had three hands for those metal bars, lol. Very funny.

With a hole in the tank such as it is, would a chemical resistant bonding agent repair the hole such as JB Weld. Just curious. Thank you Scott. Take care brother

I would guess that a lot of people have successfully made a similar repair as you describe. As a dealership we try to avoid that type of repair when used parts are available.

Looks a tree might have land on this saw or just thrown in the back of a truck several times
