Funny....you think politics have something to do with intellect? Let me make sure I'm hearing ya right..if you are republican...then you want less gov't control, less taxes and less social welfare right? I'm most certainly not gonna argue politics with ya, but hear me out. So....wouldn't cutting yourself with a chainsaw and having to be air vacked to the local hospital to perform emergency surgery on ya because you were stubborn and you valued your legs less than a $50 set of chaps be quite a burden to our society? How bout your new found disability check because you didn't wear a $50 set of chaps? Why would you wanna advertise, if you're a card carrying republican, that you are foul mouthed, bull headed and a burden to the health care system and social welfare (disability check) because you don't wanna spend $50 and take 2 extra minutes to put on safety gear? Seems kinda silly my friend.... Do ya drive around in your truck with the doors wide open? Ride your motorcycle with no helmet? Walk barefoot through the local glass plant? How bout hearing protection...or is that stupid too? I don't get it brotha....it's a common sense thing to me...$50 v/s $20,000 hospital bill and disability...seems that no matter how we vote...we should all vote for safety and less foul mouthed rhetoric. Josh RN Trauma ICU 13 years (USAF 1995-2000) Be smart brotha...you only get one set of legs and eyes...take care of yourself brotha...we are all on the same team here...no matter what FOX or CNN want's us to think...we're all Americans and should unite as one people!

Quite a few years ago when politics was a bit more civilized, I told my crew that they had to wear chaps and "corks" The chaps we used were the slip in types that Baileys sold. Snivel and whine all over the place. Then one day, one of the guys changed his toon. Seems he laid one of my hopped up Huskies across his knee. Got out of it without a scratch!!! Never heard any more whining. So that's the black and white of it. You take your chances but not on my job.

I am supplied both 462s and 500is to use at work, while they are both great saws I am quite impartial to the older husqvarna 372 and the newer 390xp. They just have a grumble about them rather than a scream and a whole lot of torque, something the newer saws seem to lack in favour of rpm.

Good vid, my vote is for the 572xp all day long and then the 462 second. The cut times (if important to some) are negligible and the cost of the 572xp is definitely in favor of most. The 572xp also has better bottom end grunt when needed. Bigger bearings as well. Another perk to the 572xp is it uses much less fuel than the 500i. All 3 a great saws and produce good power and are effective but IMHO the 572xp is the better buy/saw for the money. 🙂 Merry Christmas everyone!! Stay safe and and keep smiling!! FJBLGB!!!

I love our 500i, I’ve run it with both a 25” bar and a 36” bar and it just cuts great, it is super bar heavy when you use anything longer than a 20” bar but when you’re cutting up an already felled tree that’s not a bad thing, it does make it slightly harder to get a level cut when felling a tree or cutting off a stump but it’s still lighter than the 461 and cuts better. With the relatively small price difference I’d never buy a 461 instead.

Happy holiday. It's not an accurate comparison when you are not running fresh chains with the same pitch, and equal bar lengths. They're all great tools, personal preference is likely the deciding factor and maybe your pocketbook. It will be interesting to see if you can get 20 yrs out of a fuel injection system. I run a 20 yr old MS 460 and it's been run hard and rebuilt once with several replacement tanks. Saws take a beating. Lastly, thank you for highlighting the importance of safety! I'm 64 and have gone through three pair of chaps. I WON'T run a saw without full PPE, ALL OF IT! I'm a retired physician assistant and like you, I've excised several chainsaw lacs and closed them up. That 462 maybe needed the M tropics reset. They are usually great running saws and about a pound lighter then the 500. The longer bar maybe made it feel heavier. The 500 is a saw that is at a different level. It is going to be my next saw. My dealer can seem to get enough of them.

@markshul03
@markshul03 Жыл бұрын
Having used a 500i and putting it side by side with a 592xp I think a lot of that throttle response is more placebo. The saw is fast no doubt, but it isn’t a bit faster than the 592 I put it up against. What it does have is very little trigger travel from 0 to wide open. It makes it seem like it’s jumping to rev faster. The 500 is a great saw but I don’t think it is perfect by any means. It’s a stripped down sports car where the huskies are quite a bit more refined and sturdier built. Apples to oranges.

12:29 I love how you are all about safety, thanks for telling everyone how to be safe but not a lot can go wrong with dropstarting, it’s easy and I feel it puts less strain on my back. I am a novice with chainsaws but already the 1st day I ran it I drop started it. I had a lot of fire wood to cut in an unorganised pile so my saw was on and off and on and off all the time and drop starting is just easier. As long as you have your chainbrake on it’s safe to do, if drop starting is to dangerous then you should not run a chainsaw because running a chainsaw is more dangerous as drop starting. I fully agree on all safety gear: chaps, goggles, face shield, helmet, hearing protection, gloves… you name it but saying not to drop start I disagree with, especially with small homeowner grade chainsaws drop starting should not be seen as a big risk

Merry Christmas Josh, very good comparison video. I’m partial to my Stihl ms362 for its power and it’s lighter weight. I find I fatigued super fast with the heavier saws. I do love the 500i though, might need to get a man size saw for the farm for those really big jobs, but my ms362 works just fine. I really like Stihl, all of my chainsaws are Stihl…ms362, ms170 and ht 131 pole saw. Very cool Josh, have a great holiday, Chad.

Hello, I want to make a suggestion to you for the benefit of your saws. Before you even run the saw put skid plates underneath them it saves so much on the bottom rash on a saw and will keep the saw in so much better condition. The tank guard/skid plate is saw saver for sure. I have them on all of my saws if they make them for the particular model. Thanks for the videos.

Like the review. The 572xp seems really balanced for the bar. I really do like the 500I after seeing it work in action. Like the wrap around handles. Alot of good places to grab for control of the saw. I run a 20-inch bar now. Really would like to be able to run a longer bar for certain applications. It is really interesting when you get into different chains and sprockets. Good sharp chain will bite hard. I would like to see how the new centrifugal chain brake works. Seems like a good feature for the faster saws. First saws I ran had no chain breaks. It nice to see the changes. They did teach you to respect them and use them correctly. I do like the 20-inch bar. I have not chosen my next saw yet. I do like that 500I. Hope you have a great holiday!

The "little bubble" is a purge, not a primer. It is super handy if you 1) run it empty (save some pulls on restart) or 2) have to start it when it's super hot and heat soaked (get some cooler fuel in the carb).
@davidcarpenter8741

Push your purge while the engine is running and you may find that the engine will run rich, so a bit of priming may also be happening with a purge. Semantics really imo.

If you look closely, it looks like the Stihl 462c bogged down at the exact *same spot* of that log where there is a dark section of wood on all 3 cuts [ 17:35 , 17:49 , 18:02 ]. Might be a dense section of wood. The first couple of cuts on the log were on the dried out end pieces - so, those were easy to cut.

Put a Tsumura light bar on your 572 or adapt a Stihl Es Light bar onto your 572. You will end up with a better balanced saw. The .6 of a pound weight difference with the 500i is noticeable but comes with a cost in terms of both price and durability. Do a muffler mod or have someone that knows what they are doing do one for you. For an even bigger smile on your face and more power and better starting have your 572 professionaly ported (do your research and choose a porter wisely). The 572 is fuel efficient and has better air filtration than the Stihls. And you already own and like your 572xp. This comes from someone that has run all 3 of these saws logging every day and I own more Stihls than other brands. A properly maintained pro saw of any brand should last the average homeowner/firewood cutter many many years if not their lifetime. Choose the one that feels the best to you and that you enjoy running.

Or, he could just get an Egan filter kit for the 500i and negate the only positive husky has going for them. Why spend hundreds of dollars on porting a saw to get it to run as good as the 500i when it's still gonna be heavier. And the 500s biggest downside can be fixed for like 75 bucks max

All my gas saws are Stihl... In my truck I keep a cordless electric in case the road is blocked by deadfall since it can sit on the back seat and not put gas vapors in the cab of the truck .. where I live it rains all the time you don't leave saws outside if you don't have to.So a cordless with 2 batteries inside the truck is good for unexpected road blockages.

I happen to like the primer bulbs. Anything to make it easier to start. (course I remember back before they had all these newfangaled gadgets like primer bulbs, chain brakes, and such) Gets the fuel up to the carb quick. I always wondered why they do not put them on most bigger saws.
@1u5t1n
@1u5t1n 3 жыл бұрын
Primer bulbs or purge bulbs, to put it corectly, don't influence starting. Why? They don't dump fuel into the venturi of the carburetor. The rule doesn't apply to fuel injection tho.
@johnme7049
@johnme7049 3 жыл бұрын
@@1u5t1n They 'influence starting' by purging the air out of the line therefore reducing the number of times you have to pull the rope to get fuel to the carb. Sooo using them makes it easier to start the equipment. So why don't they put them on bigger engines was my question. My 40cc saw with the purge bulb used will start in 2 or 3 pulls. My 60cc saw, (new), without a purge bulb takes 10 or more pulls. I'm talking about cold starts all a round. Yeah, as I get older, I CAN do it but it would be a damn sight easier with the purge bulb. That's all I'm saying. Have a great day.
@1u5t1n
@1u5t1n 3 жыл бұрын
@@johnme7049 there shouldn't be any air on the fuel line, unless you run it out of gas, wich you shouldn't do. 10 pulls to start a saw isn't normal tho. Small husky with that bulb thing is like 2 to 3 pulls to start and a bigger stihl usualy goes at , maybe 5 for me. That's like moderate temperature, not too hot or cold. The real reason why Husqvarna puts the bulbs on chainsaws is... because they run hot and believe it or not, the carb will vapor lock. If the damn thing doesn't start when it's hot, you need the press the bulb to get cooler fuel into the carb. A guy who repairs chainsaws told me that and I tend to believe him.

There is no harm in drop starting a saw, as long as you have the chain brake on, it is perfectly safe, saves time, and is much easier as you are using gravity to your advantage, which I have been doing for over four decades.

L.O.L. first I came across in vids. or comments the right way to start them. But my 064' is tweaked and locked on full throttle at start. So why let a brake hold it back and hurt it. Be dicing faster too if you fire and let it roar.

If you are one of the guys who loves to buck wood big or small with with your big saw. 500i has too much speed to torc ratio. It likes to lift the wood and move it in the spinning direction. Husqvarna 572xp just cuts it. One thing to consider.

That 500i is sweet. I think both Husky and Stihl chainsaws are very close and most people pick either brand. Maybe Stihl is slightly more preferred but it doesn’t make Stihl better. The 500i is the most powerful saw pound for pound. I think I would want the 500i as my go to saw. I own both a Husky and a Stihl but they’re not heavy duty. I’ve run good saws but my saws are cheaper and I love my Husky I got from Tractor Supply and it’s not a pro saw but it’s the 450 rancher which is perfect for cutting up firewood for my splitter. Are there any electric chainsaws that can compete with a light commercial 2 stroke saw? I would like to see the best battery powered chainsaws being reviewed against a decent gas saw! Great video!

The on/off is not intended to be used in kickbacks or emergencies! So many people over look the chain brake, nobody really even talks about it. The brakes are designed, so if u get kickback or something like that the idea is getting used to using the brake with your wrist. Just imagjne the saw flipping up really quick. Once uve trained yourself properly with the brake by using the flick of ur wrist. You will be so much safer! People should be encouraged to use that chain brake any time you go to take a step! If you hit the off switch it doesn't stop the chain immediately. Itll free spin a bit first. Just think, u say the Husqvarna off switch makes more sense. But it actually doesn't, yes it can be user intuitive but, if the saw kicks back the tip of the bar will fling up. Actually the opposite direction of the button. Whereas stihls if u use your thumb u can flip it up with the thumb. But thats irrelevant, because the chain brake is your saving grace. Not the on/off switch. Also, idk why people say a stihl saw is hard to start. Actually i do. Its because they are amateurs and never ran saws for a living. A stihl saw, aside from the fuel injected model. Whenever you grab a stihl saw, thats been sitting for over 5-10mins. Start with full choke, pull approx 2 times, u should get a sputter, half choke pull once it should fire up in a high idle. Pop your chain brake off, let it high idle/free spin for a second or two. The miin u grab the throttle the half choke will go off. It should start in that exact sequence every single time! Regardless of how cold it is or how hot it is! We had a Husqvarna fanboy at my work who always tried making it seem like it was a hunk of shit and wont start. Every single time, it would start for me. Even after he pulled the hell out of it. You guys need to remember, stihls generally dont have a primer. So if it sits for a bit too long. The fuel will feed back towards the tank. So just remember, if it wont start without choking it. Start the process from the beginning. Full 1to2 pulls it sputters, half choke one more pull itll fire and high idle on half choke. Pop brake and youll quickly realize. It will always start! Ive ran in -20°F weather and still had no issues. Ive cut trees as a Line Clearance Arborist for 8yrs. So ive used a lot of the best saws on the market! If im given the choice, ill live by the stihl and die by the stihl! I know they wont let me down while tied in 50ft up a tree! Lol Also, as long as u have the chain brake on and it works properly, drop starting a saw isnt that dangerous. Its the knuckleheads the hold the trigger/handke with the right and drop it and pull with the left. Thats extremely dangerous! But if i can get anyone to take something from this long ass comment. Itd be to make that chain brake your best friend! And that chaps are a good investment too! Idc how careful u are. Its always better to be safe than sorry!

Which Husqvarna would you recommend to use as a chainsaw mill to cut hickory logs eleven feet long and max diameter of 28 inches?

i'd recommend investing in a band saw mill. Chain saw mill destroys saws and eventually ends up in the land fill...they're such a pain to use...you'd be better off searching out a small mill...spend the money right and have it forever...easy to re-sell if ya don't use it anymore. v/s chainsaw mill going in the trash or a pile of parts in the corner of your shed...my 2 cents

So on paper between your 462 and 572 the Stihl comes out on top (on paper) however in my experience the xp lineup (in real life) feels and performs stronger than a comparable Stihl. I have not ran a 500i so I have no comparison for it. BUT I love my xp saws. Comparisons are tough as chain type,and sharpness could be slightly different. But again did you see how much better your 572 performed in the cut as compared to the 462?? The husky is .2hp less HP yet outperformed the 462🤷. Good video.
