This Also Applies to the Jonsered 620 thru 670 series of saws.
Husqvarna Model 61 thru 272. Spans 15 plus years of saws. My 61 Rancher is a 1978 Husqvarna 61 "White Top" blended with a late 272 52mm top end.
Basically going to yet another level on these as the need to swap parts around to keep things OEM as possible. In this case, needed to put a 10mm crank in because it's what I had; where an 8mm crank resided. Ran into the differences in ignitions as they had evolved from a two coil system to a single coil system. SO the crank/flywheel/ two coil ignition was a system designed to work together......when they first went to the single coil system, they still were using the 10mm crank. Just changed the coil AND the flywheel, so now while the crank was still the same 10mm version, the singlw coil was obviously different and SO was the flywheel. Then when they went to the 8mm crank, the coil remained essentially the same but the crank and flywheel were different. Confusion is with the double to single coil change and the flywheel as they still have the same part number:
501 51 69 80 BUT there were different versions designated with a "V" number. My two coil flywheel had a "V1" and the single coil version a "V5"....something to look for.

Thanx for the great vids. Really empowering for one that is nervous about tearing into these older non -disposable saws. I like to run them till there’s nothing left but there’s always enough left to keep these goin!

Hello Sir Your video served as a reference. I am going to repair Husqvarna 162SE1983 year from now on. The screw of the crank is flywheel side M10x1.0mm and screw 1/213TPI of the clutch. Crank using it for 61, 266, 268, 272 series is a screw of M10 and M8. A screw and taper and screw size are different from 162SE in this. However, the crank is the same size. I can install it in 162SE if I change three of a flywheel and the crank assembly for a clutch. However, the positions of the ignition coil having a problem with are different. Look for an ignition timing, and it makes key WAY newly; is necessary, but there is it. There is the same problem in 61-1979 year and the later generation. There is the possibility that can be settled with an ignition timing and a clutch, a flywheel, a crankshaft. I want to try to look for an ignition timing. Swap can make much series into even BTDC if I understand it. Thank you

Can you put a newer fine thread clutch and flywheel into a coarse threaded clutch bottom end. Has a two piece ignition. I mean i dont mind if i have to buy a newer bottom end because ill just run a 266 and a 272 but would liek to keep one saw if possible.

I got a jonsered 625. The handle, gas tank is broken. For the life of me I can't find a handle and when i do its 170.00 bucks.. yet i heard, trying to confirm... if a handle off a husky 61 is interchangeable.. do you know if this accurate?
@afleetcommand
@afleetcommand 2 жыл бұрын
I asked Bob to be certain but they have a different set on Tank Handle combination. His comment was as follows "Different tanks. Need to match the Jonsered top handles and even the side covers to some degree."
@afleetcommand
@afleetcommand 2 жыл бұрын
Also the 625 is an open port, the 630 starts the "performance" oriented ones but a tank for a 630 and 670 should work or just fne enough "bones" and build a 630, they were a snappy little saw. A 670 really is a red 268

Walt, What is your opinion regarding aftermarket crank seals, do you use them? Are HYWAY seals any good? THanks!
@afleetcommand
@afleetcommand 4 жыл бұрын
Hyway is fine I guess, but I haven't had any of the seals fail. So far so good on all of them. I still prefer to use OEM as they are cheap, but really have no reason other than it feels right by instinct

Hi Walt..as I'm watching the beginning of this I can't help but wonder have you any donner used parts for a 61. ive a 266se, I've noticed some details that make it unusual... intake is completely different shape to all the available gaskets...blue duel coil, anyway parts saws are hard to get ....
@nickywalsh8492
@nickywalsh8492 4 жыл бұрын
When I see that backfire through the carb I had to be ignition timing...so I prosume the duel coil flywheel triggers at an earlier position... having those parts at hand makes all the difference in that situation....great vid...btw my 266 seams to have a 162 cases ,metal tank/handle, the 6 anti vibs are then of coarse fine thread which seam to be difficult to get online.i think a plastic hutzl tank might be the way to go ...also the hutzl top cover won't line up on that front fastener so that's another bummer....yea I got a freebee that was less than complete...but it does have a tilitson carb ,and mahle cylinder only needs a 50x1.5 new ring....those old saws seam to stand up to age and abuse.

Probably but the question would be where. I was pulling the older top ends and blending the later 268 closed port or 272 top ends on those and no certain what I did with the "take offs"

I will make a run of tools in a couple of weeks if you can't find the OEM versions, I think HLSupply carries the Husqvarna shop tools. They work and are great quality....and cheap. They go for around $50 bucks where I have to charge $125 to make my version.
