Thanks for the video! My husband bought a fuel pump to replace ours and he had already thrown away the old one. The new one came in today while he was at work, and I wanted to get it running and get the grass mowed before he got home. It seemed pretty self explanatory to put the new one on, but I guess he had also taken out the vacuum line and I didn't know what was supposed to go there. After a quick KZbin search, I came across this, and I ended up cutting some random fuel line like you did. Worked great! Very informative video

Dude, you totally just saved me a service call. Watched five other videos before yours to no avail. I had the same trouble as you, but the hose on mine wasn't busted, the seal was just gummed up with grass gunk. Literally dug it out with my finger and mower started immediately and is running better than it has in five years. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

The hose replaced in this video is not a breather or vent hose. It is an impulse line which delivers alternating pressure and vacuum from the crankcase to the fuel pump’s diaphragm, which in turn provides alternating pressure and suction via check valves to transfer fuel from the tank to the carb. Any flaw in the line or its seal on either end will allow atmospheric pressure to enter, defeating the ability of the fuel pump to function.

Thank you very much for the video. Knew it was a gas delivery problem but didn't know where to start. checked both gas lines like you said. Great video on determining exactly what the fuel delivery problem was by process of elimination. A really simple way to confirm it’s fuel-related is to remove the air filter, spray a volatile into the intake and crank the engine. If it starts right up then it’s obvious fuel delivery is the issue.

Really good step by step on figuring out what was wrong with it. I would, however, caution folks on using any tool that could make sparks next to open gas. Many drills make "sparks" on the inside of the tool, which could present a fire/explosion hazard. Safety first. :)

That small rubber tube that you just replaced was damaged in the same place on my mower. I replaced it with a new one and within minutes the tube was sliced again, in the same place. I also saw multiple videos where people showed the same issue on their mowers. That is a defect; because the edge of the hole that tube goes into is too sharp for that thin tube. There needs to be some sort of rounded edge on the metal. That was not the reason my mower was not starting though. At least, not the only reason. Thank you for the video.

Alright so the Husqvarvna YTH24k48 model with a “ Kohler 24hp engine, “KEIHIN” brand carburetor” is not a cheap part lets just get that out of the way. “24-757-45-s” Follow every step this gentleman has told you to follow. Pay very close attention to your “carburetor solenoid” its located on the front of the engine underneath the filter cover, 2 10mm bolts hold that small piece on then it’s very accessible.If you do not hear that solenoid “click” automatically thats your problem. But don’t take it off just yet, check your fuel pump as he did. If your getting gas out of that fuel pump you know the rest of everything is completely fine and to be honest it’s safe to not go further with the lines just put the line back on the fuel pump and carry on to the solenoid. Un clip the red wire keep that zip tie on, and when you take it off be ready for a little gas to fall out. Not much but enough where you want to catch it. Now, I may be very lucky but I removed it, played with it by pushing the pin up and down put it back on and then it turned right back on and we haven’t had any problems with it at all. It might be a temporary fix and the solenoid might be bad or might just be stuck, like I said it’s not a cheap part, I would recommend taking that solenoid off push the pin down its like a spring, and then put it back on, if it turns on again then don’t mess with it if it doesn’t then for sure your solenoid is Burnt out and you need to replace it ASAP part number is “ kohler 24-757-45-s”

Random related question, wondering if it's normal for a little gas moisture to accumulate around the top of the gas tank near the cap and if that's attributable to the venting of the cap? And no, the tank isn't overfilled and there was no spillage. The moisture typically accumulates after a mow. Aware the cap does vent evaporated fuel but unsure if it's normal to see any accumulation on the outside of the tank. Referring to a Briggs & Stratton engine on Husqvarna YTH22V46.

@@Cowboy340 If you are getting fuel in your oil, that usually means that your carburetor float is not functioning properly. The carburetor needle and seat are not sealing tightly. The gas is leaking through the carb and into the crankcase (where your oil is). You can put a shutoff valve on the fuel line and shut it off each time you are finished mowing. Or you can clean/fix/replace the carb.

Ok..... Looking for ideas.... Got a Husqvarna YTA18542. Engine starts, runs about 2 or 3 minutes, then cuts off. Sounds like not getting fuel. Plenty of fuel in bowl, the electric fuel solenoid works, can hear it click and tested with ignition, it moves fine. Replaced fuel filter, replaced air filter, checked fuel lines, all clear, pulled gas tank, no debris, checked air breather on top of tank, all clear, using new fuel, spark plug is good. Any suggestions???

Two thoughts.... 1 - Dirty carburetor 2 - Ignition coil going bad
@jonduggan7433
@jonduggan7433 Жыл бұрын
It WAS the solenoid...... The solenoid itself worked. It was the electrical connection that was bad. The prongs were loose in the connector. Just loose enough so they lost contact due to vibration. Ordering a new plug, but in the meantime I shoved a couple pieces of old bell wire into the holes and it fits tight now. Thanks for the reply though. I appreciate it............

Where is the carburetor at on that one. Make video of it please
@RealManSkills
@RealManSkills 2 жыл бұрын
The carburetor is mounted on the front of the engine, under the plastic. I am sure that you don't have to wait for me to make a video. Especially since I don't have that tractor in my shop at the moment. You can find a lot of Kohler carburetor videos on youtube. Thanks for watching.

I’m not hearing the click, and when I try and crank is fuel is coming out of the fuel pump, what should I do next??
@RealManSkills
@RealManSkills 3 жыл бұрын
If you don't hear the click from the carburetor, check the wire that attaches at the bottom of the carb. That is the anti-backfire solenoid. It allows gas into the carb. If that is not opening, the carb is not getting gasoline. It may be stuck. Remove the wire and the solenoid from the carb. Turn the key and watch the solenoid. It should move in or out as you turn the key on and off.

I got exactly same symtoms as you with the Briggs engine, and when I remove the hose to the carby fuel flows freely even without cranking. So what else might be wrong... any idea? The other thing I need to mention is... my problem is only in warm weather. If I start full choke on freezing cold morning... starts and runs like a beauty. Go figure.
