Have you ever tried a product called Optiglanz, a liquid you brush on, smells a bit like marzipan, works wonders - also why don’t you take the freshly painted swingarm home, pop it in the airing cupboard or warm spare room to cure quicker

I like shiney exhausts but I'm also a lazy bugger, when I first used Harpic on my 1200 Bandit a few years ago I was very sceptical and really didnt expect it to work but it did and the results were amazing. You really don't need to scrub them like you do with the Harpic, just put it on thick with a brush and leave it for a few minutes then rinse off, that's why I like it..... no scrubbing necessary.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 2 жыл бұрын
You're dead right mate, and Bandit exhausts are particularly bad for that corrosion, and if you keep on top of it or it's not too bad, then yeah it does come off with a rinse, but this was proper black and the best it would achieve is a pale yellow finish, so just this once to get it back it needed a little help!

Thanks Brother, i Appreciate it!! I was even a little surprised myself at how the finish kept improving until it was practically like chrome.. happy now.! The Harpic cleaner doesn't sell in the U.S. i believe, but there must be an equivilant! its just a strong bathroom cleaner designed to cut limescale on porcelain, it's active ingredient is "Hydrochloric Acid", so look for a bathroom limescale cleaner with that in it, a concentrated version would work even better, and you should be good to go. Take care and keep safe both of you.. have a great weekend.. D&Pxx

@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know as I've never tried it, titanium shouldn't corrode like stainless does so you shouldn't need to, I would test a small area out of sight before you use it on the rest just in case, but once again you shouldn't need to, it should polish up easily.

Good luck with the exhaust studs, start soaking them in penetrating oil now, and go at them for a week or so twice a day.. then just patience and a sense of humour, and you'll get them out.! The Husky is mine, i bought it for the project as i love the way it's like a poor mans Husky Nuda, and with the right makeover and a high end finish, it should be a really nice bike.. also i loved riding it for a few weeks when we first got it, so it'll be a shame to sell it some day too.!

looking good dude. thought you were going to weld up the 2x water holes on the swing arm? are you switching out the end cans for something after market and louder? Low C' digits in the garage is not fun. Its keeping me from rebuilding the Divi 900. Well, cold is hurting my poor dodgy shoulders lol Going to make a small portable log burner from something I picked up in a charity shop, should take the edge off the cold and get me into the garage. The standard log burner kicks out so much heat I end up in shorts and a t-shirt, when its -8'c outside the garage... BUT.. I cant use it as I have a massive plastic barrel sitting next to the burner. Barrel is to go onto a trailer frame, to then be towed by a motorcycle for camping, storage of kit that type of stuff. I'll drop you a pic via email.. if I remember lol Keep taking the pills and plodding along, lol. Your looking really well, which is great. Got a head cold and 4 LFT and 1 PCR test confirm its a head cold and not Covid, had it 36 hours now and feeling ok, so could be a 48 hour bug. Picking up beechams in a store had people looking at me like I had plague pmsl. Both of you two take care! Happy Yule if I dont catch you before.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 2 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy, had a re-think on welding the holes up, there's no need as it wasn't accumulated rain water, probably more likely inappropriate use of a power washer, but I'll need somewhere to secure the mud flap so I'll just seal the holes when I pop the clips in with some silicon and they'll be fine... Sorry to hear about your cold, hope you're feeling better soon, have a great Christmas, keep safe and stay in touch!
@th3v1k1ngW4rri0r
@th3v1k1ngW4rri0r 2 жыл бұрын
@@Moonfleet41 ahhh. That would also explain the rust in some of the bearings... Power washers and bikes 🏍 don't mix lol The rubber flap I made goes down past where the 2 holes are on yours, by a good 100mm. Stops anything hitting the back of the swing arm as well. Tyre occasionally touches it but nothing major

"One bolt, one hour" But you managed in the end, Del. Patience helps, and we learn that from you. The final result makes you proud. Would you try this Harpic stuff also on painted exhausts? My old Transalp 600 has some corrosion, but it's not stainless steel. Thanks, Günter from Nürnberg/Germany (no Christmas market this year)
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Günter, Harpic contains hydrochloric acid, so NO, i would not use it on anything less robust than Stainless Steel.. it will chemical burn chrome, strip anodising and etch paint... so never use it on anything other then stainless steel.. and even then it must be washed off thoroughly with lots of running water afterwards because if it's allowed to dry, then any water getting on it later can "reactivate" the acid causing it to continue eating things... pretty nasty stuff, so treat it with respect.. rubber gloves and eye protection always.!
@enduromotorradtouren
@enduromotorradtouren 2 жыл бұрын
@@Moonfleet41 Thanks, Del, very helpful. So I try something milder on the Transalp. Maybe I start with Coca-Cola and an old toothbrush. And lots of water afterwards. That Harpic stuff might be too strong even for the Triumph Trident 900 with its 30 year-old stainless steel manifold.

Hey Gary, no the pipes are stainless steel, which is great, as you can just buff away till it's shiny with no fear of damaging the chrome! Have a great weekend both and keep safe, D&Px

Del mate, that figure you drew on the quote at the start isn't alright to use, its a derogatory symbol of a Chinese person (complete with the slitty eyes and rice hat). Not appropriate at all.

@@omblae My pleasure mate, no offence was intended in any way, and once again, i've trimmed the first 10 seconds off the video in a retrospective edit, it can take a while for YT to reprocess it, but it will disappear shortly.. My Apologies for any offence caused.

When I saw that nut and stud flex together, my heart sunk. I thought oh no, that's going to be a hideous thing to try and fix after snapping off! *Whew* Much relief when it [eventually] came out intact, lol. And wow, who knew those gnarly pipes would turn out so pretty, surprised me, I tell ya.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, as soon as I saw the stud move, I moved freeing oil back to the cylinder head cos clearly the nut wasn't gonna shift, and yes indeed, looking at the location of that stud, right behind that frame brace, there's no direct access to it, so it literally would have been engine out to fix, so phew indeed, talk about relieved!

Say one thing for Huskies, there's more real metal in those sensor flange welds, than in some modern choices of trendy 'missing lugs & cracked plastic' must-rides (why are retaining lugs always the weakest point? - it's almost as if they're designed to catch-out the new owner's befuddled brutality & generate more after sales, as if.) Merry Xmas & much pudding to all : )xx
