Honest reporting of the wind/buffeting issue much appreciated and is one of the reasons to support on Patron. Many older riders like myself have hearing damage /tinnitus ( ringing at all times) from decades of wind noise exposure. Top spec ear plugs only help slow but won't eliminate this permanent nerve damage. Long distance touring reviews like this are rare to advise on wind issues.

I'm 23 years old, and I'm one of the few riders here in Serbia who wears ear plugs. People call them ear tampons. I don't understand that, because you still hear the bike while outside the city, it just filters out the wind noise. Once you wear them, I can't go without them.

@MathiasKarlssonErik2 жыл бұрын
There was one in the EU shop and the it was in the dealer catalogs, BUT now it is completely gone. My dealer looked into it and was told that there is no such windshield and there is no timeline when it might come/return. Other scarce parts, like the heated grips, have an ETA of late Autumn. Therefore, I would not expect any windshield in 2022.

I’m finally at peace with the buffeting on my 890 R Rally after lots of trial and error. Changed the windshield, removed winglets, Rottweiler mirrors, and added a 15 degree windshield tilt adapter. I also now ride with “electronic” noise cancelling earbuds that remove most of the remaining unpleasant noises against the helmet caused by buffeting. This last part might be controversial to some. I say give it a try if you also want to be at peace with buffeting. Good luck sorting this out. Great video!

I have been loving my Norden. I am currently at 3700 miles and it is my daily driver. Best motorcycle i've ever owned. I only have two gripes with this bike and I hope to fix them. Unfortunately they are mechanical issues such as the immobilizer antenna error preventing the bike being started for me fairly frequently. I will have the immobilizer replaced next week under warranty. But my main issue is when I have a passenger of 150+ lb or so, there is a truly awful nails on chalkboard metal on metal sound when I decelerate. I took it to the dealer and they can't find what is causing it. Other than that, this machine is truly a blessing.

You could try to remove the upper screws of the shield, put 1cm rubber discs under the screen and mount it with longer screws. For me it improved buffeting. The wind protection did not improve but the noise.
@ClinttheGreat2 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing on my bike, except I used 1” spacers. The air that flows under and behind the windscreen prevents a vacuum behind the wind screen and subsequent buffeting from occurring.
@jinxy21292 жыл бұрын
Got the Norden primarily thanks to your reviews, since i was looking for a nimbler alternative to the GS. Yet, you can't compare it to the refinement of the R1250Gs. The wind protection is a big plus for the GS as well as the engine sound and overall feeling. Electronic suspensiom control is out of this world. The vibrations are more filtered on the GS and overall it feels much more premium than the Norden. Of course, it's almost 10000$ more expensive and a different class, but i regret getting the Norden instead of the GS.

Hi Ian from France. Really interesting review as usual. I'm starting to think of upgrading from my Benelli TRK 502. I've travelled all over Europe and put 50K kms (31K miles) on it. Love it, and it is suprisingly capable, but I've had a few reliability issues and some more power would be nice. My head is saying VStrom 1050, but my heart is saying Norden. I've been left at the side of the road in foreign countries with the Benelli, and reliability is important to me (hence the VStrom idea). I'd like to do a bit of off road, but realistically most of my riding will be twisties, main roads and some all-day motorway rides. For the Norden I'm a bit concerned with potential reliability issues and the windshield. The VStrom is the safe bet, but less exotic. I'd love to hear your thoughts! (By the way, I don't own a car right now, so reliability is pretty important. Am I talking myself into the VStrom?)

Tested the bike for about 2h with a spoiler. It made it better, but whatever I did the wind noise was still horrible. Without earplugs I cannot ride it for longer than 15 mins above 50kmh/30mph. There WAS a larger "Touring"-Windshield in the EU configuration options, but within about a week it was gone again. Supply chain problems? Like so many other items?! I also have some other minor gripes like, clicking through the menu to control heated grips instead of dedicated buttons on the handle, buttons feel cheap, quickshifter not smooth, etc. #detailsMatter Not great, but I would be willing to live with it because the bike is so much fun, well balanced and looks awesome ... BUT the current windshield totally killed it for me ... I am so disappointed since I was so rooting for the norden. This also makes the Ténéré 700 default windscreen design even more impressive since it provides much better protection and no such horrible wind noise. For now I will probably go with the Tiger Rally Pro 900 (or 1200?) ... very similar package, but the windshield, heated grips, quickshifter, buttons, etc. just work without a fuss ... sure the Tiger is a bit less aggressive, weighs slightly more and does not have the special look ... but these Details really, really matter to me IFF Husky gets this stuff fixed and that quality matters ... I will probably look at it again ...

I'm going to look at your BMW F850 video again to check out the wind protection since you said the wind protection on that bike was so good. Is it possible to remove the windshield entirely? If so, try that and see how that works. I tried pretty much all the windshields available for my V Strom 650, and it was simply terrible. Then I removed the windshield completely and it was FANTASTIC. A bit counter intuitive, but a smaller windshield can often be better than a bigger.

technically yes, but then "soft" parts of the cockpit, like the GPS mount, will be exposed

@@MathiasKarlssonErik Good point Mathias. Perhaps a shorter screen would still shield the instruments, and not create buffeting wind?

I installed the lower windshield from the r on my 890 adventure. And it’s indeed the better solution over the windshield extension.

Word…the windscreen blows. I’m 6’3” and the NorTex wind on the highway is like boxing with Mike Tyson. Other than that….one other complaint….I’ve got a mystery coolant leak that keeps sending the bike back to the shop. Doesn’t show itself on short rides…but after the bike gets hot from a longer ride….I find drips/puddles of coolant on the garage floor the next day from where it’s pooled up in the skid plate and dripped out. The shop cant locate the source and neither can I. They thought they found it at the hose clamp and replaced it with a heavier one…but no bueno. So I took it back again and the shop is dumbfounded. I’ve found a few other reports on the internet RE the same issue to include some of the other Husky models. Anyway…once that’s sorted the windscreen will be my only gripe. I contacted several manufacturers RE developing a windscreen for the Norden as it will be a gold mine for the first one to win the race.

You should put some tell-tale on the windscreen and it's edges to see if the wind moves as you think it is on the spoiler and wind shield. From the profile of the windshield on the top and the spoiler you have mounted on your desert shot the spoiler could make the problem worse by making the low pressure area in the cockpit move forward. What I would suggest is a curld edge on the windshield or a "reverse" spoiler. This should be placed close to the original windshield and have a wider gap at the bottom than the top (relative to the windshield) projecting a windshear upwards, thereby enlarging the low pressure zone in the cockpit. Beware that a bigger pressure difference can make the low pressure zone collapse from the sides

With the Norden being built by KTM, what is the reliability? Number one thing on my list if doing long distances away from civilization. And what about the service network? What's the best height and what options are there for lowering?
