WOW,that an incredible Hussar Death Head Uniform,and it looks so amazing on you.I hope that you will someday create a French Hussar in the near future.But overall beautiful uniform,and also would like to see the Hussar Boots aswell. Greetings,to you,from Cape-Town,in South-Africa Cowboyt Up!!

+Elton Martin Thanks man :) I'd like a uniform of the French Napoleonic 7th hussards. The green and red combo with the gold lace is very christmassy, a good contrast to this simple silver and black scheme. I just have low boots with this uniform because the trousers are full length.

There is a hook you can add to the belt and suspend the saber from it on the first ring so it won't drag all the time.
@Theduckwebcomics8 жыл бұрын
+David Schlageter Yep, about the 30 second mark you can see I hooked it up. But I've read it was generally the fashion to show off with your sword dragging in an impractical way, or just hanging low, so I wanted to try that. It really goes with the asymmetric, piratical look of the uniform style :)

What's missing is the double headed Lion heads on the Sabre belt...with an s shaped 'Snake' joining then. I have an original Lions head buckle from the battle fought near Polotsk. Found by metal detector.
@Theduckwebcomics3 жыл бұрын
I have the little snake part at least 😅 I've thought about lion buckles or something else like that but couldn't decide on what I want. That's amazing about fun being an original. It'd be worth a lot!

@@Theduckwebcomics I also have many buttons from Bivouacs & near battlefields on the roads from the road to & from Moskva . Have also some really rare line regiment buttons (61st/ 108th/ 30th/etc + Imperial guard & Sappers from near the Berezina crossing. It's too dodgy now days to detect in Belarus.

Very nice uniform. What was the idea behind this side jacket hanging off your left sholder?
@Theduckwebcomics6 жыл бұрын
It's a trademark of all hussar uniforms. The origin of the style comes from mediaeval Hungarian and Northern Serbian nobles who used to wear an extra fur lined coat that way as sort of a cape. You can see it in old paintings from the era.

+Drunkduck the uniform looks excellent. I was wondering if you knew of any patterns it would be possible to get for the clothing items? I'm interested in also portraying a Prussian hussar from one of their regiments, but importing such a custom fitted uniform into South Africa would be more trouble than it's worth, so I'd like to have it made locally by a tailor.
@Theduckwebcomics8 жыл бұрын
Prussian, French, and British uniforms are much the same but with subtle differences, like the lace on the cuffs and collar- and the colour of course. I don't have a pattern because I had the jackets made and the trousers are antiques, but they're easy to find online. Here are a few things that could help a bespoke tailor: au.pinterest.com/pin/385902261796861900/ au.pinterest.com/pin/385902261798201301/ marksrussianmilitaryhistory.info/V11/V11.htm au.pinterest.com/pin/19773685837633421/ www.thesewingforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=30212 You'll need the patterns for a Napoleonic hussar pelisse and dolman jacket. I don't know where to get patterns for the trousers I have, but most people go for the tight breaches with lace on the thighs, that you wear with Hessian style boots. Breaches are easy to make.

There are manuscripts of these Uniforms, I was tailoring one myself. It depends on which historical period are you looking for and how much historically accurate it is supposed to be.

You can get replica sabres from kultofathena.com You can get uniforms like this from sites like sutlers.co.uk but there are cheaper Pakistan based makers as well. Or you can put it together yourself :)

Is it a hussar uniform from Prussia?

It's a combo of a lot of deaths head hussar uniform styles, but yes, mainly Prussian 😁
@911AmericanPatriotNeverForget9 жыл бұрын
sweet pelisse bro also would the sheathed sword hang down that low normally?
@Theduckwebcomics9 жыл бұрын
+maxtomczuk Thanks man! Yeah, in dress uniform it was the style to let the sword hang a little crazy. Lower actually: the end of the scabbard would scrape on the ground. Some officers even had little wheels called "treeks" put on. In battle of course they'd never do that.
@JakubTyl7 жыл бұрын
Hussar troopers would drag their swords as part of the swag that was natural to Hussars. But it is not a practical way of walking and officers hated the sound of dragging scabbard so Hussars had to hold their swords in hand and later they had a hook added to their belt to hang the sword. As was mentioned, the hanging sword makes sense while mounted. The whole Hussar costume is rather unpractical while walking, but it sits well while riding. Also, I am not sure about the Prussian Hussars, but other Hussars of that era were equipped with carabines and pistols.
@Theduckwebcomics7 жыл бұрын
Pistols and carbines were only single shot and difficult to reload while riding so the sabre was still the prime weapon. In Britain at least it was popular with officers to wear their swords hanging low. And you almost never see swords hooked up on the belt in photos and paintings, no matter the nationality...

That's amazing! Did you make that? All you need now is a horse
@Theduckwebcomics9 жыл бұрын
Haha, yes :) Maybe I'll try riding in that get up one day. The trousers are a bit too tight for that though I think. Some parts of the uniform I paid to have custom made, other parts are from real uniforms and still others are custom made by me.
@henrysavage13429 жыл бұрын
+Drunkduck that's brilliant, nice one! Best thing to wear to a fancy dress party by far
@JakubTyl7 жыл бұрын
It depends on the seat of your trousers. The trousers may be tight but you have to have extra space in the seat of your trousers. When you look on the actual manuscripts of the Hussar uniforms, you can see they are cut in a way to allow a lot of space in your seat area (on your butt). I ride with tight pants and pantaloons over them (to be historically accurate in battle), which is very tight all together, but I have enough space in my seating area so I am comfortable while riding. All aspects of the uniform are made to be comfortable while mounted. Things like high positioned and narrow shoulders so you can swing the sword or the fastening should never go below waist line so the uniform does not pop-up while sitting on horseback etc...
@Theduckwebcomics7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I have a lot of different pairs of uniform trousers in cavalry styles, but none look as good as these. The main issue with these is that they're ultra tight in knees, bending them is harrd. I could ride a horse ok in them but not mount, haha! I'd need the embarrassment of the mounting block. I love that you ride and dress in the traditional manner!
