i’m disabled and can’t work much, i work in a grocery store a few hours a week, then i do commisioned writing on the side. I’m burnt out with just this and can’t afford much at all. If i didn’t live with my parents i wouldn’t be able to pay rent, utilities, groceries, medication, etc we all have the same 24 hours but i can barely function for most of it. hustle culture is shit. it will sacrifice your mental and physical health. god forbid you already have struggles

If you're always hustling then wtf is the point? So at 60-70 years old you can finally sit down when you can't manage to actually enjoy the money you've spent your entire life making???

Good point, overworking yourself can have bad effects on your health. All the money you make could go to some health insurance company.

Every time I hear about hustle culture, I am reminded of this story I read on Reddit. This redditor had a friend who subscribed heavily into the hustle culture lifestyle and owned multiple businesses. He only slept for 5 hours a day; he didn't eat healthy foods; he picked up smoking to network with collegues and found it impossible to quit; whenever he traveled to a different country, it was always to go to a meeting for work, never did he actually _visit_; he didn't have friends outside of that Redditor; he didn't have time for a significant other; etc. His idea of leisure was drinking at a bar for an hour before he had to go back to work. Long story short, he died from a heart attack at age 32. That's close to my age. It's hard not to listen to these guys without thinking of that story.

I work in industrial machinery and construction, a pretty profitable place to be, the hustle lifestyle has been normalized there since the industrial revolution. older guys are always complaining to me how nobody wants to work, I'm always just like: yeah. we aren't put on this planet to work ourselves to death, nobody should want to work all the time. what a ridiculous expectation. The love of money truly is the root of all evil or something

@Jay-xj5yt yeah, its good to have a solid work ethic-- i work like a dog but i also acknowledge that there isn't an amount of money that's worth a single second of my time on this earth: we are always selling ourselves short. but i still work harder because its satisfying and i get to have a smoother, shorter seeming day

I took around 14 classes in high school (yes, they were all mandatory) and they gave us hella tons of work. My school expected us to work non-stop everyday (including vacations). Glad my current job isn't making me stay awake for 3 days straight to study for finals. No wonder people drop out lol

I hate when we praise people for working 3 jobs and being such a hard worker. Yeah it's so great that you spend every waking moment not having any time to yourself! You're so much better off just having one decent job and being thoughtful about how you spend your money. Every day feels like a battle between you and other people that want your money, there's always some new product being shilled, constant bombardment of advertisements. If you can resist the urge to have the things everyone else has you'll be so much better off. I hope I'm not just sounding like the "Buying a coffee everyday is keeping you broke!" guys.

Hustle culture drives down wages by increasing the number of man-hours available to businesses. It's simple supply and demand. If everyone worked less, that would increase the scarcity of labor and drive wages up.

Alright if we all just keep working hard for 10 hours every day. We are not going to be doing that much more work. You have to understand that you get tired, and need to rest your brain. Some even say of we work less we still would have the same output. But why do you Think google, out so much money into fun activites at work that is not work related. Cause if you have fun you might get an idea for the project you are working on.
Ooh dr. stone! The show is very interesting and fun! Just until the newest season, which focuses on reviving capitalism, that was so disappointing... 😞

Hard word is definitely not directly correlated to success, but success in any area you pursue will absolutely demand more from you than we anticipate. Always. It’s always more complex than expected. Anticipate this, and respond accordingly. Humans ARE supposed to work all day. Hunting, farming, ranching, building, repairing, transporting. The current system allowed for the entertainment conveniences you enjoy. Had the industrial revolution not happened, we as people would not even exist. We are literally the product of it.
@firelordoregano56325 ай бұрын
i don't know how to tell you this but music, theater, performance, books, and general downtime spent with loved ones did, in fact, exist pre-industrial revolution. every waking hour was not spent hunting, farming, et cetera. given how recent the industrial revolution was in the full chronology of human existence, it's a bit difficult to understand what "we as people would not even exist" is meant to mean.
