Farmer Mechanic Four bolts hold on the deck plate above the mower deck. If you take that plate off you can see all the pulleys along with the belt routing diagram. you can get to the covers on the pulleys that have to come off. I used a larger hook a little longer than a foot (it is used to get radiator hoses off) to take off the tension spring. After you take off the spring you can easily route the belt from the top. I put the belt on the last pulley from the motor pulley. I put the spring back on with a little effort. (I am 73 years young and did not have any major problems with it.)

Ditto on what Direct Fire posted; much easier to remove spring, install belt and lock a pair of vise grips on to spring to set it back into place.

They made a belt retainer that is covered by factory warranty. Dealer will install.

What the best way to get the belt around the center pulley that has the updated black colored belt guard on it? I guess take the guard off?

I would guess you need to take it off, but I do not really know what the updated one looks like. The covers on the outside of mine, I took off.

Good video and thanks for sharing sir.I used a pair of vice grips and latched onto the spring. Gone through 3 belts in last 3 cuts. Shredded during cut, not during engagement or disengagement of deck. Any ideas.

That seems like a very Abnormal happening. Mine has a 4 year warranty (which is why I bought it) and I would certainly ask the dealer about going through belts like that.

Had to drop the deck to put the belt on. Took a little time. No big deal once you get the bolts loose.
