I looked for Huston Smith videos on KZbin in 2009. Found Robert Anton Wilson instead. Then I spun down that rabbit hole for 13 years. Now back to Huston Smith. Here he is. What a trip.

For those of you commenting on his lecture style/delivery, he has/had an auditory disability, which affected his hearing and speech throughout his life long life (He passed away a year ago in Jan 2017)

I had not considered that maybe science is not the best tool to discover spirituality. But I still think it can yield partial results. Enjoyed this talk quite a bit, as it showed the space he has operated in all these years and was new to me. Thanks!

fairly ungenerous comment when you consider that he was well over 80 when this video was recorded. I hope to goodness I could do half as well at that age - if I'm even still around at all.

Why not word that introductory letter with science has shown us how we as humans got “here” , and one we have “arrived here” how should we behave is up to the principles of spiritual guidance?

Religion or you can say "One's belief in which you live by", even if you claim none. DO matter. It is impossible to not live by any set of beliefs. The speaker has a physical ailment..not nervousness.

"If Madrasahs of those drunks Became the educational institutes Of teaching philosophy of Epicures, Plato and Aristotle; If Abode and Mazars of Peer and Dervish Is turned into research institutes, If men instead of following blind faith of religion Should have cultivated ethics, If the abode of worships were turned into Centers of learning of all academic activities, If instead of studying religion, men Would have devoted to develop mathematics - algebra, If logic of science would have occupied the place of Sufism, faith and superstition, Religion that divides human beings Would have replaced by humanism… Then world would have turned into haven, The world on other side then would have extinguished The world would then become full of Love-affection-freedom-joy, And there is no doubt about it." ~Omar Khayyam

All of the wisdom of this world is but a tiny raft upon which we must set sail when we leave this earth. If only there was a firmer foundation upon which to sail, perhaps some divine word. -Socrates The true Light who gives light to every man was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God- children born not of blood, nor of the desire or will of man, but born of God. The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. The Light has come into the world, but men loved the darkness rather than the Light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. The One who comes from above is above all. The one who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks as one from the earth. The One who comes from heaven is above all. He testifies to what He has seen and heard, yet no one accepts His testimony. Whoever accepts His testimony has certified that God is truthful. The Father loves the Son and has placed all things in His hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. Whoever rejects the Son will not see life. Instead, the wrath of God remains on him.

FACT: Not only are opinions like assholes in that everybody has one, but sometimes opinions also originate from assholes, but that's speaking metaphorically. Dr. Smith is quite old in this presentation and there's no telling what physical and/or neurological impediments he may be negotiating. Value the message; forgive the messenger!
