If you lived forever, you could just meet new people. Once your current friends die, you could make more. Assuming you don't age, there would be a constant stream of new generations of people to hang out with. Sure, it'd suck to see your family die and you'd have to deal with seeing your children die but it'd be fascinating. And narcolepsy is worse than Tourettes. Randomly twitching once while driving on the freeway wouldn't be that much of an issue.

I get that it may sound horrible having to live for eons, but I think it sounds alot better than not being able to live anymore. If you're immortal, you're not limited in any way. You could be the only person in the world that knows what's inside a black hole (the nearest being 3000 light years away, but still).

Tourettes is absolutely awful. Nonstop involuntary muscle motion accompanied by vocal tics as well. Perpetual exhaustion and soreness from the constant motion, and the vocal tics take a toll on your ability to communicate. Sometimes the muscular tics can be so severe that they result in full body convulsions. It's also pretty much impossible to go into public without drawing unwanted attention from onlookers.

Live forever Vs. Never live. Even with the consequences I would choose Live forever. Because my body may continuously regenerate, but I'm not magicly going to become concious while floating in outer space (or drowning in the ocean). If anything I just stay in a coma until I receive the proper nourishment to become concious again (i.e. no longer floating in outer space/ocean).

+57Royston Live forever either means you're immortal or you merely don't age (but still has to eat and sleep and things CAN kill you, but you won't age). If you're immortal, being in a vacuum would not kill you or put you into a coma, nothing would. You'd be invincible. So you would drift in space for billions of years with full consciousness. If you would just not age, that'd be even worse. I'd guess I would value my life much more, and be scared about accidents a lot more. Like you already now you're gonna die eventually, so an accident is just a casuality of life. But if you have the knowledge that you can live forever and therefore accomplish things no one could, your life would be miserable of being scared to die and just waste all the potential. Like say you have 80 years. You're probably fine with dying. Things you could've accomplished already were or are out of your reach now. So you can chill and accept death. If you were 80 or 30000 years old but lived forever, there wouldn't be things you couldn't accomplish, it would all be a matter of staying alive long enough for it to happen. And that's a miserable life, even more when paired with the fact that you will watch everyone you care die.

With the living forever I used to agree with Hutch, not being able to grasp floating forever in space like that. But given enough sensory derivation the mind does some weird shit. Time as I know it could very well not apply. I may very well be akin to dead, with my mind blasted blank by time, in which case I had a longer life than others, or my mind would be jumbled mess of hallucinations after 1,000 years or so, which is basically the afterlife many seem to believe in. Either way there would be some hard things but it would definitely be preferable than never having lived.

The live forever thing is always bothersome when not elaborated on. If you are literally immune to all forms of damage that could kill you and you are completely indestructible that would be great....for a few hundred million years and then when Earth is consumed by the Sun, you'd be trapped there forever. If you are just biologically immortal, there is no reason you'd pick anything else because eventually you are going to be shot, stabbed, get in a car wreck, something to that effect. Also if being a sandwich artist paid $100k a year, I'd be gone from my current company so fucking fast that time would dilate around my office chair.

@Konguii23 cost of living is a big factor in salary. They, living in California, have a high cost of living which means 35k a year is pretty low. Where as in other places with a low cost of living 35k is reasonable. I used to drop my jaw when a friend of mine was making six figures in NYC, and then I realized he was spending roughly the same percentage that I did with a third of the income.

Severe Tourettes can be really debilitating. Honestly though I think I'd still take tic attacks over sleep attacks, because even if tic attacks are awful I'm at least aware during them. I have some very annoying leg tics which basically function the same as cataplexy in the legs so that's almost one-to-one. Excessive daytime sleepiness would be ugh, but at least I wouldn't have to worry about breaking/dropping/throwing anything or hurting myself all the time. Hm. I would probably just stick with Tourettes, in the end.

You know, I believe that thing with immortality is a misconception. On average people make new friends and lose old ones every 7 years, I don't see how the people you care about dying would prevent you from meeting new people you care about. I would be more concerned with inevitably being caught in a situation where you are stuck in a perpetual death cycle, like Hutch said with the sun exploding.

It's important to specify between narcolepsy and cataplexy. Cataplexy is the symptom that causes people to pretty much fall asleep at any time. Although it's typically triggered by episodes of strong emotion and is controllable, it is none the less debilitating. I have narcolepsy without cataplexy and I would take my condition over a "bad case of Tourette's" any day from what I know of the condition. On the other hand, cataplectic narcolepsy? Hit me up with dat Tourette's fam

No it's not... Cataplexy is when you suddenly and spontaneously lose muscle tone / control. Sometimes it can just attack one area of the body like the knees (knee buckling) or the neck (head dropping). Other times it can attack the whole body, causing you to collapse. It's caused by strong emotions like laughter, anger, or even sadness. It only lasts for a few seconds to a few minutes and you're conscious during the full episode.

never sadness or never anger is so easy if you think about it, each emotion is known to be important in some basic way to people, like sadness helps you determine that a change needs to be made and anger helps to determine that something has hurt you and needs to be addressed, but sadness is so much more important overall, it truly defines not only what it means to be happy but when things are wrong as well. it also gives a certain level of attention to those problems depending on sadness levels, compared to anger which just gives someone a response option to said problems, plus anger almost always leads to a negative response while sadness has some many more optimal end results. btw not gonna lie, i think nanners and how he only speaks in movie memes is funny but he kinda evades every question to a degree, can this be fixed?
