The Hutts have fascinated me since I was very young. My grandmother started playing the Original Trilogy for me when I was in diapers. And they were the first sci-fi/space fantasy race that REALLY made me curious. Where are they from, what do they eat, how do they breed, what kind of society do they have if any?? And once again Rick just rolls up with a fist full of facts I’ve wondered for over 3 decades, but have been WAY to lazy to research on my own. Thanks for enabling my lazy. You’re my hero.

I still remember how the Young Han Solo novels had one of Han's early lessons about hutts be that they are smarter than you, don't try to figure out the master plan, just be a cog in the machine. Also several other hutt characters would gossip about Jabba's humanoid fetish.

Calling them slow I feel is inaccurate. They are described as having a "devastating charge". One took on a whole squad of Vong warriors and almost won the fight. He was unarmed. Old powerful ones like Jabba stop moving because they don't need to. It's a power trip essentially. They don't need to do anything, everything is brought to them or they are carried. A real world equilvant would be Henry VIII. He was an amazing warrior and athlete in his younger years. When he got older he ate tons because he could and got fat because well he didn't need to not be fat. He was the king he didn't need to do anything, everything was handled for him. Same thing with Hutts. I can see a 1000lbs, in shape, Hutt warrior being an absolute terror on the battlefield.

Part of the "legends" lore is the Hutts slowly took Varl from it's original inhabitants through a mixture of open purchases, loan-sharking and extortion until fully dispossessing them. The original inhabitants have since devolved into semi-sentient creatures that plague Nar Shaddaa, the Smuggler's Moon, a underworld ecumenopolis. Also the Hutts skin is so thick it is near blaster proof, plus they are immune to Jedi mindtricks.
@michaelgreenwood34133 жыл бұрын

While not aliens, a culture I would love to see a video on the Principality of Zeon, from Mobile Suit Gundam. They definitely have grown their own distinct society and worldview from the Earth Federation by UC 0079. While the culture and beliefs of Zeon change drastically depending on when you look at it (Pre-Republic, Republic, Principality, Zeon Remnant Terrorists, Neo Zeon, and 2nd Neo Zeon), I feel they all have fairly interesting aspects. That said, I suspect just covering the Republic, Principality, and Post-One-Year-War periods would be more than enough for a condensed cultural profile. It’s very interesting how the original culture of the sides as effectively “space labor colonies that pay tribute to the federation that made them possible”, combined with Zeon Zum Deikum’s radical philosophy of NewType Evolution and independence, to turn into a revolutionary body... that very swiftly was taken over by fascist forces, who corrupted his ideas into something utterly horrific.

In far back Legends content (As in: The Old Republic) we actually get an example of a hutt that got a taste of legitimate business and desired to keep the rest of his dealings above board. However we then find out that despite him seeming to be genuine about this, he still lies abut his past and sends us after his previous gang. So while hutts may consciously try to do good things, their "unique" perspective on morality still gets in the way.

I still consider TOR Canon even to Disney, as it's far enough back anything in Disney Canon still isn't AS far back as of yet, and a lot can change in 3000-ish years. In Legends material, there was only ONE species that the Hutts feared above all others, as well as everyone in the Galaxy at the time: The YUUZHAN VONG. During the invasion of the galaxy, the Hutts tried to be on their good side as "allies" in their conquest, but when their power hungry nature lead to back-stabbing and betrayal, how did the Yuuzhan Vong respond? With orbital bombardments and bioweaponry of the Hutt species. Nal Hutta was almost rendered INHABITABLE due to the Vong's wrath. As a famous Jedi Master once said: "There's always a BIGGER fish..."
@kimarous4 жыл бұрын
In fairness, the Hutts counted on the idea that their services were necessary to the wider galaxy - that they were THE underworld, that everyone needs the underworld at some point, and therefore they were untouchable. A single person or a rebellious planet was understandable and manageable; even if a Hutt or two died in the resulting conflict, it wasn't a threat to their entire way of life. It was INCONCEIVABLE to them that there would be a power that not only had the power to wipe out entirely, but also have ZERO FUCKS about doing so.

Will you cover, or have you covered, in your videos some of the Dune Lore? One thing I have NEVER understood...... In the "Special Editions" of ANH, WHY does Jabba let Han get away with stepping on his tail and insulting him? If I were Jabba, and he stepped on MY tail and sassed me in front of my minions, I'd immediately have him executed, not only for his insolence, but allowing Han to get away with it would just make me look weak. A crime lord who rules by fear can NOT allow that to happen without the most painful of punishments. A feared crime lord would kill him on the spot and say, "clean up this mess". Yet Jabba does almost NOTHING, outside of a "you get one more chance to pay me just because I like you, and that's it". That's NOT the act of a feared crime lord. That's the act of a weak pushover. And Jabba is not a weak pushover. So, what's up with that then?
