Hi jmt! im a a complete novice in the hvac field with less than even a year of experience and i find your videos very helpful and entertaining! If it would be ok, can you come out with a video explaining how to calculate btu’s or how to read wiring diagrams? Im really struggling with those aspects and would love to get some visual advice from someone whos been in the trade for awhile. Thanks!

Btu’s = Watts x 3.413 There are different calculations for different applications, a lot of this can be found online. Schematic wise, start with ladder diagrams (of something like your basic furnace/interlock circuit) and use that as a visual aid. Draw parallels(figuratively) between that and the schematic of the same/similar circuit. It’s the same information in a different format/presentation. Schematic will be more thorough, of course. Aside from that, get familiar with the symbols. Memorize the common ones, and refer to the legend of whatever schematic your looking at to fill in the blanks.

At 0:57 you show your meter reading .007 v. Are you on the volts scale?

No he’s reading amps. When you see the meter again at 1:50 the knob is turned to a different mode/position reading volts. Some meters are weird like that. Like fieldpiece, you’ll be on the volts/VAC mode but have to toggle on the amps, which then display simultaneously above where the volts would read. Idk.

You have two stages both stages are running with low suction pressure, from what I could see in the video both stages seemed to have fairly identical suction pressures in the 50 psi range. With that being said I would look more towards their being plugged filters or low airflow more so than a leak. I find the majority of my leaks visually looking for oil and following up with the soap and water solution or the electronic leak detector and soap Very rarely do I have to recover and pump the system up with nitrogen.

Excellent . Air flow should be proven 1st . Could be just a lose belt or even a circuit setter to high

How do you know the system is low if you haven’t checked sub-cooling or superheat?

No amps on this one. Try setting your meter on amps, insted of volts.

0:48 By mistake my thumb changed the settiny from amps to volts🤣 LOL you can clearly see the plunger isn't plunged in and that compressor wasn't running. Good eye! Thanks for watching🔧
