Great job. Your heart really sinks in if that vacuum gauge doesn’t go down as expected. You cannot describe to someone else who isn’t in HVACR what it feels like to have that vacuum gauge hit that 500 mark and continue going down and holding. Especially after a long job like that! 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Thank you for the video!!!! I will be taking my first LG class next month. Every tech I know hates working on LG and Daikin units like these. They all need a main controller down in edc room where techs can access them and get all the info they need on each unit instead of a lap top on a cold or rainy day. After all these years Carrier, Daikin, LG still haven't figured this out.

I’ve been cutting/sawing off all the lines off the compressor, remove the compressor then I torch off the compressor studs from the lines. Found it easier then unbrazing yanking on lines off compressors during replacements.

Did you perform the diode bridge test. The compressors are usually solid. Ive replaced inverter boards and noise filter board...never a compressor though. Use your recovery machine to push the rest of the refrigerant into the system..

Yikes! If those boards are overheating and burning up it's no wonder with the thermal paste applied in that way! Please don't apply it like that if you want equipment to last. - Firstly, both mating surfaces MUST be cleaned off using cleaning/degreasing agent to remove all old thermal paste. - Secondly, for a heatsink like this, apply a bead of thermal paste in a straight line but DON'T smear it around. Then carefully mate the parts together without sliding or smearing. The contact pressure will ensure correct distribution of thermal paste. If the old paste is not cleaned off or new paste is smeared around in a attempt to make a better thermal conduction, what actually happens is that you end up with air pockets or bubbles trapped in there which form an insulating rather than thermally conductive path. Finally, although most thermal paste is not electrically conductive, cleaning it up from other areas (like you did) is a good idea. There are special products available, including environmentally friendly ones, that make it an easy job removing even very old and crusty thermal paste. I've worked over thirty five years in electronics and IT building and repairing servers and PCs and other electronics. With some of the systems I work on the processors cost several thousand dollars each and have high dissipation requirements through a relatively small contact area. Incorrect application of thermal paste causes very expensive failures and other issues in a very short space of time. P.S. I really like the content you post. I find it refreshingly different and the details you put in make more interesting than a lot of other channels.

These systems have no driers. Only strainers. That’s exactly why you have to braze while running nitrogen. If you don’t then it’ll be a shit show when you have to replace all the clogged EEVs.

Did someone diagnosed what cause the compressor to go out do you guys cut open the compressors to determine cause. I have been installing these LG vrf units for the last eight years we have never had a compressor fail I am always wondering when I see a video of a failed compressor I always want to know what the cause was. I have 3 facilities in industrial manufacturing I installed that run 24/7/365 two of them for 8 years the other for the last 5 years compressors never shut down, still I never had to replace a compressor.

Just did one of these compressors in a Multi V today. Board wouldn't run the compressor even when I swapped compressors. I wasn't expecting the 5 connections LOL. Had 5.45 nS = 200 M Ω.

In my experience, the condenser fan will fluctuate between on-off and variable speeds while recharging. It's often an indication of inadequate charge or a charge that has not yet stabilized, so the unit throttles the fan to compensate.

I would say you’re probably coming back to change the inverter board again. The heat sink compound should be a very small amount. When you use too much it acts an insulator not allowing the transfer of heat. Just my two cents but I would have done a few small dots on the back so that when you put it back in the pressure will spread it for you.

The „new“ board has been reworked on. Somebody manually soldered some components and didn‘t remove the flux. It‘s the flux that looks burnt. Doesn‘t look very professional but won‘t cause any problems.

18:49 no no it’s thermally conductive, not electrically haha. But it is correct that too much thermal past will will any computer board/pcb so quickly. I’m kind of impressed it took 3 weeks to fail.

You really should clean up the old thermal paste before applying new. And it's best not to use an impact to screw in those boards. Some of the screws go "through" the chip itself to hold it tight against the heatsinkt and if you have a little oopsie with your trigger finger you can literally crack the chip. Ask me how I know..

Who knows how to get them panels out of the way better. I mean he did what he had to but there has to be a better way. These engineers pack a bunch of shit into a unit and never think of service. They should have to run a call like this. Bet after they do they change and bunch of shit.

As someone who has changed a fair number of these, its easier on the MV4 to remove the entire electrical case assembly after recovering the refrigerant. Its intimidating given the number of wires but they are all color coded and generally only fit back where they belong. I tried the method in this video and ripped a connector off the main board due to stress on the wires. The MV5 has a heat sink tied to the piping and a wrap around coil so that's a different story. Agreed the service access is not great.
