Just started doing industrial hvac work. Not a big fan of it. We do mostly industrial metal forging places. it's hot noisy and very dirty. Can never get my tools clean. After one service call I look like I just spent a day in a coal mine.

I had about 8 different service trucks over my career. I always liked vans vs. service body trucks. You have to be very disciplined to keep them organized when you’re busy. Always return everything, especially tools to their proper place. And try to unload all of the junk parts from jobs daily. Otherwise it turns into a mess very quickly.

You just convinced me into getting that floor drawer. I was hoping you’d show how you stored your refrigerant tanks. Your van is a reflection of you. It shows us that you are a professional, prepared, knowledgeable and organized. This will save you time, impress your customers/boss, as well as earn their trust. The little effort to stay organized will pay off in a big way at the end of the day. You’ve done a great job with your van! Plus, the video was great as well!

My insurance also drop and this is a great reliable service van. So far it takes me everywhere. I love my sienna now

I did service on manufactured homes(mobile Homes for 25 years and I always kept more than one of everything and I cannot stand a dirty or cluttered truck. I had a box van but carried drywall panels and just about anything needed to repair or replace parts that normally broke. I always knew where every tool or part was at hen I was done it went right back in its place. I always joked if I don't have it you don't need it. Great set up and clean looking truck. Another thing people pay attention to your truck and usually will want you back if your truck looks organized.

Great organization. Just a friendly FYI, the Transit 250 had a massive recall campaign to replace the flexible driveshaft coupling. Our University of Iowa fleet had 12 of these that had to go in to the dealership for preventative replacement. Ask your dealer if your new model is effected or may be effected. I'd hate to see you have downtime for something that can be prevented.

I have the transit 150 version of your van. I have the double set of drawers but I don't have the stand up cabinet as I am not an HVAC tech. I removed the rack with the parts bins as I don't really have a need for that so I put a mini fridge and plugged it into my inverter. I do a lot of in town and a lot of out town calls so its nice to have better food with me that won't spoil. I was guilty of too many fast food outlets. I really appreciate the tour, interesting to see the same van with different tools and parts.

That's a monster load of tools. I do residential AC service as a hobby, mostly for friends, family, friends of friends, etc. and aside from my torch, pump and recovery tanks, its RARE that I'll need much more than a tool bag and a set of gauges to repair over 90% of every job I've done.

I've driven both a 2011 Chevy Express van and a 2015 Ford Transit 250. Both were great for different reasons. The Chevy was like a smooth floaty Caddilac and with a big smooth V8, and the Ford Transit was more like a sports car with its loud (ish) temperamental V6 and sharp handling. Both were a joy to drive. The biggest advantage the Ford has over the Chevy, was much more space (I could actually walk inside without ducking) due to the more modern unibody design.

Beautiful setup man! I myself just converted from my Milwaukee M12 fuel to the M18 fuel as i'm an install guy now where as before i did everything so i ended up opting for the M18 stuff as it's much better for new construction cut ins and heavier duty stuff. Really love them so far! Love the setup though! I always love to see techs who take great pride in their vans and keeping things neat. That goes a long way. I see too many guys just throwing stuff on shelves randomly. I give ya huge props! Love the creativity too! Utilizing PVC fittings and custom making your own floor boards. Very well done! I hope that thing is making you or your company some money because that thing is a rolling supply house. Like someone else asked, I'd like to hear your response to how often you clean and reorganize. When I was on the road doing commercial stuff, I tried to clean and reorganize my van every Friday or Saturday. By the following Wed, it looked like the van had been rolled a few times. Awesome video and that is a sweet ride. Stay safe!

Just want younger guys to know there is a balance between tools and parts. I carry 8 motors, 30 circuit boards, 150 capacitors, 30 pressure switches, 40 limit switches and hundreds of relays, contactors, etc. I can always find a tool if i need one, but i have the part 95% of the time. Allows me to run 10 calls a day and get equipment running on nights and weekends. It is a balance!

I loved very organized, When you get busy if you’re, you will be cleaning one a week- special if you not have a emergency calls in sunday, otherwise a will stay for next weekend. Only happens in the south, a will be impossible in the NE. My question for you . How you will do if you have to do replacement. where you will put the units is not a enough space left. Or got it delivery to location. Not in the NE baby.when you have 20 to 25 calls a day , it’s crazy 😬. Looking at the rest of tge video , got it , you do only service calls , not replacement. Good job , in that case a work perfect . 👍👍👍

I'm an EMT, I've responded to quite a few collisions involving work trucks and one where an Airgas delivery truck was rear-ended by a semi. In every case I have never seen the tanks rupture. The weak point on the tank is the regulator. As long as you follow proper procedures, you have nothing to worry about with those tanks. Hell, we've had several of our ambulances involved in crashes, including a few roll overs, and nothing has ever happened to our O2 tanks. Most of what you hear regarding pressurized tanks exploding, or shooting off like a missile is nothing more that myths.

I run ton trucks before that and all I did was fix trucks. The wall mount ac I used to work on about 250 comunication sites I seen everything under the sun for junk in the way for servicing them. If there's a will there's a way to get components replaced.

Pipe King, I take it you don't work a service job. When your livlihood depends on you getting the job done you carry everything you need to get the job done, including spare tools. What do you think is going to happen if your halfway through a job and your drill motor breaks? You think you will have time to run back to the shop and get a new one? Likewise, what do you think will happen if you don't have the parts you need - especially on a "routine" job? Redundancy is key and only a fool would share your attitude.
@1SqueakyWheel
@1SqueakyWheel 6 жыл бұрын
Preparedness. The goal here is to have everything he needs to visit any given job site once per dispatch. One and DONE is the ideal here. In order to achieve this, redundancy is key. Sure, one could ideally get the job completed with one of everything required. But everything has a failure rate, and redundancy prevents such inevitable failures and defects of tools and new parts from biting you in the arse.

Cool setup! I'm surprised how few parts you carry compared to us. Do you special order most parts and make follow up visits, or just have supply houses nearby? We do commercial & industrial refrigeration in a rural part of Colorado. We carry all the stuff you have, plus A TON of parts because supply houses can be 4-8 hrs away (round trip) and most customers can't wait days for us to order anything. Seriously, i'm talkin various sizes and varieties of solenoids, TXVs, temp controls, pressure controls, defrost timers, fan motors & blades, contactors, start components, fuses, check valves, compressor gaskets, filter driers, fittings, etc... you name it, we probably carry it.... The challenge is that all the parts go on the shelves, so finding room for all the tools and still be able to access everything is tough. Got a few ideas from this video though. Thanks, man!

I wish we as technicians could chose what shelves and layout we have in our vans. They give you a van already laid out from day one and never give you time to lay it out. Mine is really not laid out well. I saw a few guys reorganize their vans and just when they got them laid out, they were pulled from that van because it was sold and then put into a totally different van with out even an hours notice. So I am hesitant to spend much time laying out a van .
