The customer will always have to spend the money, either on a board or on you...the question is, do you want to Want to sell the customer this magic board and earn once or do you want field the service calls and feed your family and family of everyone that depends on your company??...what if you sell the customer this magic board and it acts up, the way all technology do? Then you are back to square one, only this time the customer is gonna be ticked because your magic bullet didn't work as sold....I haven't watched your videos in a while and I'm reminded why I stopped, all you do is complain...stop bishin & moaning and do your job or leave the business...ps. there's no such thing as a "nuisance call" it's a Service call...
@HVACRVIDEOS

What was I complaining about? I love these calls and I enjoy the heck out of them. You need to stop watching if you can't tell that.... also the new technology in the equipment is a government mandate and not the restaurants choice, and the restaurant buys their own equipment so I just service it and install what they purchase.... your assumptions about me are way off dude

@@HVACRVIDEOS maybe I can't tell because of how you are sounding off and if Im wrong then it's my bad. Don't get it twisted, you do great work and I love the "Big picture" diagnosis because I employ this as well. I think it's the need that you have to explain everything and so it comes off as a bit whiney. I can never tell you how to be and as you said, just watching if I must but word of advice, "Always say less than necessary".

@marjones69 You sound jaded. I think one of the good things about this trade is providing real value to society. If you want to resist technology that prevents certain problems from happening just so you can have easy service calls, then don't complain when our country spends its resources and time messing with shit that doesn't have to be a problem. Your attitude is to leave the wires to rub out so you can leech money out of your customers later. Then you complain to someone providing free training to help bring up the average comptency in the trade, probably because it threatens your pathetic ego.

Hey Chris, I really appreciate you taking the time to make these videos for us. They are absolutely incredible. I love watching them because sometimes our company gets so busy that I feel like I'm alone in the service life. I typically work alone so I don't get to socialize with my coworkers very much. When I watch your videos it makes me feel like you're by my side working with me. It really does help keep me in a better state of mind. It also makes me more motivated as well. I would think a timed door alarm would be vastly cheaper than a service call. Not to mention a few signs. My mother ran he kitchen for my school district, and they just had signs explaining why you had to close the door when you leave, and if the door is found open, and no one is in either walk in, close the door. Sure help may be hard to find, but if you don't explain why you need to do something, people just don't know to do it. Most people want to do what they are supposed to as long as they know what they are supposed to do.

I agree with you on the wires. As a hobbyist electrician I would do a few things differently. First off I would run the wires inside a pvc pipe or flex wire tube. Then I absolutely "hate" with a passion those connectors think they are called spade connectors. I would solder the wire directly to the pin and have separate "breakout boards" that has the right amount of connections. Reason for that is that those spade connections becomes lose over time and they heat up and make bad contact. A soldered on wire while it could be argued that it would fatigue and snap after some time. I have never seen that happen if you do a nice loop to the wire and make it pretty. Having the electronics on a separate psu is a really good practice. I would add a capacitor also on the wires to the controller. Some things may make sense for you some may not. We have totally different skillets but I absolutely love your channel and would love to through some ideas your way to see if it's anything you could use =)

I used to be a solder joint purist (most of my work being electrical car mods) but after some work in this industry I am convinced that there are specific use cases where crimp joints are proper. First things first, I don't use the cheap spade connectors from Amazon or Home Depot, I order them in bulk (cost difference basically negligible) from a reputable brand (AMP is great, so is Panduit). A proper ratcheting tool is also a must. For example, a model of equipment I regularly service has a component that draws 20 amps. I often find the factory wiring (14 gauge) is too thin, and so the connectors burn up at the relay. I remedy this by running a new length of 12 gauge, new spade connectors, and a proper crimp. After that repair is done I never see the replacement burned up (and I check them every time I'm in the control bay for any issue).
@ToxicwasteProductions
@ToxicwasteProductions 2 жыл бұрын
@@boginator55 the reason I'm not a fan of crimp connectors are the possibilities of oxide building up between the male and the female. And they don't handle very much current before failing. For instance I got some 12v xenon lights I use for videos. They are 130w in total over two yellow automotive style spade connectors. With a 4mm cable. And the cable itself handles the current just fine. The connectors though they get hot hot very hot. The voltage drop is quite large over the connector. Almost 3volts. I later moved on to a different more powerful powersupply and soldered the powersupply directly to the cables and went from 130w to 195w (3x65w) and the voltage drop from start to end is 0.7v. So my take on those connectors are that they are great for low voltage low current things. But when your starting to expose them to the elements water snow ice and then vibration along with a high current. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they fail quite often. There are many different kinds of connectors that look just the same and different ways to crimp them and most factory crimps are very good. But the self crimps are always abit "how ya doing" I've started to solder the wire to the connector just to get the maximum current handling of the connector now adays.

Hello Chris, thank you for your content and time. I come from a very different industry. It however seems to me that door monitoring might be useful. It is used in various industries. Perhaps a "Non-Contact" or RADAR timed door sensor connected to an audible and visual alarm might be beneficial. Believe it or not the most effective solution I have found is to annoy the staff into compliance. A DOTL (door open too long) alarm that operates when the door is open longer than say 2 minutes, an alarm buzzer located in the kitchen goes off. The alarm is muted when the loading timer is operating. Sometimes the alarm also goes off in another area (often the manager's office). Another advantage is that the loading time can end once the door is closed.

While the remote-access of the iWC card looks so convenient, I wonder what the Internet security implications are? The manual doesn't say much at all on the topic. (I also wonder what'll happen to IoT solutions in 5 years, when the company stops paying for the central command & control server...)

As he said, there is a simple bimetallic safety switch for the heaters, and even if there wasn't the controller itself has builtin limits to how you can reconfigure it. As long as you buy IoT solutions from big companies like Heatcraft, Siemens or Mitsubishi you will be fine. Avoid consumer IoT solutions and those made by small or Chinese companies.

Just my opinion looks to me that the demand defrost on all this smart evaporators doesn't work very well, seen too many ice ups I usually set them to scheduled defrost and because the door is being left open I raise the defrost termination temp to keep the heaters on longer and take care of that excess ice that's not only in the coil but also the areas around it as best as possible. The door alarm idea sounds good.

i find they tend to leave the doors open because they cant open it when its closed. Normally the pressure relief is either stuck , or not working. When the unit pulls down the temps it sucks the door in hard and wont open, or the seals leak and they freeze closed and doors without heating coils around the seal will stick hard and you need a crowbar to open the things. That is why they leave doors open.

Bean counters at the controller's manufacturer are saving a few dollars on component cost, by not implementing a properly stabilized power supply. Instead of a more rugged design, they specify that the unit needs a clean power feed. So they're diverting cost to the customer that has to have an extra breaker and power feed installed. I'd rather pay two dollars more for a board with better power stabilization than having to contract an electrician. It's not the electronics that make it more sensitive. It's a flawed design.

I'm mainly in industrial HVAC nowadays, but putting in transformers and boards in a walk in doesn't seem like a good idea. Do they offer an option to mount the controls remote?

If a control unit is that sensitive to voltage, it has not be designed very well.... 😁

Why put all that electrical stuff in a freezer evaporator because boards love moisture and below freezing temperatures. Lot of that stuff super over kill .

Yeah. That always gets me too. Here in Europe we do keep everything with electronics outside the cold rooms, on the cold rooms wall beside the door. Electrical couplings inside the cold storages is kept inside IP65-classed boxes

It seems to me that the management is the failing responsible party. The management needs ensure the staff understands the proper use of the equipment.
