The onsite outro was a pretty cool. A nice change of pace and not so long. 😁

I am a Fire Alarm tech, and I wish HVAC was responsible for duct detectors in my area. It looks like those duct detectors are on a loop of detectors so multiple devices, but one end of line resistor. I also love your videos. if you have any questions about fire alarms feel free to reach out.

In my geographic area in Pennsylvania, the local fire department is very active in inspecting smoke/fire alarm wiring and installations; the fire department has no qualms in shutting down an entire building if they don't like the installation/wiring/sensors/etc. They don't care if it has been like that for a hundred years - you fix it now and you fix it the right way. All alarm wiring is either EMT or special approved red color armored BX cable; everything has to be secured correctly, only metal boxes - no shortcuts anywhere. And, the inspectors climb up into ceilings and odd places and check everything - the inspectors seem to have a full day to do their inspections, they want everything done by their book. Do it their way or the entire building is shutdown by the fire department that day.

As someone who has to answer questions about field wiring on fire alarm - we would all LOVE if we could get jobs rewired properly - especially if there are problems. Sadly, the sheer number of times the answer is "make it work, we're not fixing it" (on new installs no less!)... sometimes it makes me wonder how well inspectors are enforcing code.

Today we installed new fire alarm system for the fire company later, they do the fiinal connections and commissioning of the system, and we did all the wiring and detectors/sensors. All the cable is in special tubes and fastened with special clamps to withstand a fire for atleast 1 hour of direct fire. its pretty much impossible to see any red from teh wirtes, as everything has to be tied down in pipes. so quite odd seeing it here just tossed along the attic.

Nice job, Chris. I hate going behind someone. Having to figure out what the hell they did and why just to fix something right the first time. Good vid
@Qballl16 сағат бұрын
Holy hell that smoke detector is a mess with how everything is tied in. Im sure a job like that almost makes you wish you could tear it all out and put it back in right but at last the customer would probably never approve that so gotta make do with what they will and it seems you did a great job doing just that.

Don't they sell a spray coating now to make surfaces bitter to animals? Spraying the flex duct interfaces with that could be a preventative measure.

The problem with refrence voltage is its always different. Reference, signal,dc,low voltage whatever name you call it. Ive seen it from .08 VDC to 360VDC. Obviously different applications and ondustries but still.

Even though we seal both ends of pipe work Chris on installs of splits or refrigeration systems the verman eat the foam on the indoor units little bastards eat through everything cause alot of issuse with replacing sensors and wiring very time consuming.

The theme of this video is overexposure. All good though. You never have a bad video. Your good work is rare, so rare. Please consider being a professor or instructor at a tech college.
@HVACRVIDEOSСағат бұрын
Yeah I initially filmed the first few clips on my iPhone but have since stopped using it due to the overexposed washed out look it gives. The second part was filmed with my Samsung phone but the editing software used the first clips as the baseline for the exposure settings for the rest of the video…. Bottom line don’t film with an iPhone unless you want to spend hours trying to fix the exposure settings…… #firstworldproblems

Your job is not to rebuild the system. You can only do what the customer will pay for.
@achannelwithnopurpose197715 сағат бұрын
I know what it’s like to have duct detector accessibility issues. One job where we had quoted to replace all the duct detectors in a local theater ended up being a cluster f due to the fact that one “genius” decided that it would be a fantastic idea to install a duct detector in the ceiling above a theater with a high ceiling. Long story short, we now need scaffolding to get up to that detector to replace it and that’s gonna be a return visit as the customer was not willing to pay for scaffolding at the time we were contracted for work.
@tbelding11 сағат бұрын
You might check, some of those theatres, there are catwalks _above_ those ceilings, because of construction intending to have manned spotlights. The techies don't always tell the people in charge about them, because they're hidey holes.
@bobmartin951819 сағат бұрын
Chris I was in the Fa business for 45 years. I have seen many many installations. What you were working on was for sure an ugly installation. I could go on and on but I will spare you that. If it were me I wouldn't touch any of the mess in wiring Let the Fa guy figure it out. The detector didn't look like it was in the correct location. Duct detectors are to detect filter fires not for area detection. Just my $.02 worth.

Semens smoke detectors and duct detectors are the WORST, ever bit of dust can put them into a trouble mode and if they aren’t serviced regularly the false trip and can get a whole theme park hotel in the parking lot ask me how I know, we had our whole system changed out to Honeywell and zero problems in the last 6 years. I don’t know what brand this is but I remember the issues we had and I hated it lol
@dashcamandy224213 сағат бұрын
The attic wiring is atrocious. Even if they saved the dough on conduit, at least use staples or clamps! Nah, leaving a mess of crisscrossed literal tripwires is much better.
@Hudson1233920 сағат бұрын
Would you agree having stand alone smoke detectors are better? In my opinion there’s no need for the fire department to be called when one unit trips out on a faulty detector.
@jfwfreo19 сағат бұрын
There are building code rules that require monitored fire and smoke alarms in these kinds of commercial buildings.
