I think Ted had mentioned in a past video that he has started proactively replacing contactors in every system he sells for that very reason. Trane started cheaping out on contactors and he was noticing a high failure rate with oem contactors. Anyway, good job man. Have a good day.

Yes he does. I've ran into a few contactors bad on Trane but not like Ted says they seem to go out quicker in the southern hotter temps.

Trane I definitely better than york and lennox. I replaced a blower motor in a trane s9v2 (2 stage 90% furnace) and it was so much easier than I thought it would be John. The housing is plastic but the motor bracket holds the mounting legs in place. Only thing for you to adjust is where the band sits on the motor

Ive had 2 generac’s over the last 12 years. No issues here. Had a 14 kw then upgraded to 22kw. Flawless operation. Only generator manufacturer that has huge amounts of parts available and wide variety of tech compared to limited Kohler or Cummings techs. Only way to go in my opinion. The past generator has problems but the newer models is far more reliable.

Generacs are ok. What happens is, these home owners get these things, Never have the maintenance done on them and then cry when the thing locks itself out on safety. They should really be serviced yearly but customers can do it themselves.

You can just take the flat head lug out behind it there's a Phillips head screw take that out then take the 5/16 screws out from the old contactor and they thread right into the Phillips head screw holes on the new contactor takes like maybe three minutes and much better contact due to enhanced surface area

I have the same trane xr17. About 8 months old and has been worked on a dozen times. Frost board in winter, now in summer the entire coil (condenser outside) had to be replaced due to bad leaks on it. While waiting weeks on the coil to come in, the installers had to come out every Friday and recharge the 410 or it would stop cooling.

Actually what you heard was backwards. The older Generacs had a lot of issues. They seem to have solved them. I have this exact same model and did a lot of research before I bought it. Someone made a comment about servicing them. I have mine monitored (cellular) by the company that installed it and it's on a service contract. Could I service it myself? Sure but I am in So. Fl. where we get hurricanes. $500 a year gives me peace of mind. I have been without power close to 2 weeks after Wilma. I also lived through Andrew. This can control my entire house as if I had power from the utility. I'm a night owl I was up at 2am getting ready for bed. Lights went off within 30 seconds they came back on the gen was running. I was only on for maybe 10 minutes before power was restored.

As a technician who has served many trades. I can say with certainty most products made in the modern age are of the lowest quality ever. The corporate motto is "How cheap can we build it" in order to maximize profits. Even stuff made in the US isn't any better if at all. Is that all R&D departments do anymore, find ways to make it cheaper? They can save 10 cents by using a crappy contactor that will run at 99% capacity so it fails sooner than one that would be operating with headroom. But that won't save them 10 cents per unit. Too bad we don't see those savings.
@John-vh1fk

I hate the chicken$h1t, OEM, 30amp contactors that come on Carrier/Bryant/Payne condensing units...especially the screw/square washer that is supposed to hold the wire down. The lug-style 40amp, 2-pole contactors are so much better and easier to land the hi-voltage on. Clipping the rings off for the 'lug style' terminals and re-using the crimp as a ferrule is the way to go - you get a much better bite and connection VS the bare-stranded end.
