Thermistors are not very rugged. Thermocouples would be much more reliable but the electronics for thermocouple reading is a bit more expensive. Two reasons to solidly wrap insulate thermistors. First the air flow temp can be quite different than evaporator pipe temp. Second, you do not want the thermistors to be constantly exposed to condensation moisture. They are not perfectly hermetic and moisture intrusion in the end where wires exit end will eventually change their readings. The black leaded thermistor is more critical. It is equivalent to the bulb on a standard TXV. The orange leaded thermistor right after the EEV is feedback lead compensation 'early warning' for the EEV control loop. It sees the immediate reaction to EEV adjustment and helps speed up the EEV adjustment rate to respond to evaporator heat load changes quicker. The orange thermistor is exposed to more variance in temperature as the EEV opens and closes. Some older TAM units had a problem when blower and compressor shut down simultaneously. The orange thermistor would see excessive temp drop from remaining liquid feed after blower shut down causing the unit to close down the EEV totally, holding liquid line pressure for a long time with back feed check valves in scroll compressor blocking other end of liquid line. It can cause startup chatter in the scroll compressor top differential pressure plate sealing that unloads scroll compressor when off causing long term damage to differential pressure plate. On EEV systems should always allow blower to run for at least a minute after compressor shuts off. On variable speed compressors it is not so critical. Newer TAM unit made software changes to avoid EEV total shutdown when system shut off.

The caulking all over the panel is ridiculous. Positive pressure is not hurting anything if a little leaking air is present. Just makes it harder to service it getting carried away with sealing front panels. Of course negative pressure is a different story.

I’m remembering years ago I was working on a Tam ,compressor would go off on internal overload on start up. I know sequence of operations is to flood the evaporator before indoor blower turns on. I do remembering my remedy was to put a freeze stat on with a compressor time delay 20:24 Call never came back in, so I’m guessing it was the right move

I should have added compressor, was pumping down before indoor fan could turn 20:30 on causing IOL

I'm actually surprised I haven't had to change many stepper motors on those I think I've only had to do a couple motors usually it is a sensor One time I did find actual valve with stuck but that was on a brand new startup so I don't know if it's something they didn't purge or nitrogen or what but that was the only time actually found a valve bad and that was actually on an outdoor EEV right on startup but actually electronics on those have done better than I thought they would for the most part

Slated for a new TAM9 and 2 stage compressor taking advantage of $2K tax credit. But several videos show a bad temp sensor like yours. Has Trane/American Standard figured this out yet? Thermistor tech is about as simple as it gets ... a small device that changes resistance with temperature.

@@myHVAClife the work in conjunction with the sensors, the stepper motor from the evc board. I have 11 years dealing with those shits.. recommend to change the board sensors and motor every time.

Why put a tam eight on a 2 1/2 ton.? 😮 or even a tam seven should only have a gam or Tam four or five😮😅?

This is a tam9, They do not make tam7 or tam8 anymore, and the tam9 is on the way out this year, being replaced by the TAMX! Tam 4 and 5 do not exist. And the gam is trash! .

@@myHVAClife ok lol 😆 same difference why that air handler to begin with. Too much money for the air handler for the amount of efficiency it gives. Could’ve went with the tem6 and been just as good. Or plastic gam
