❌ The Croatia You Never See: • The Croatia You Never ...
Hvar, Croatia - We took the ferry from Split to Hvar island. Hvar is said to be the most expensive island in all of Croatia. We came to find the best things to do in Hvar in just one day - between the luxury and the local experiences.
Hvar Fortress - Much like the rest of Croatia, this landmark has changed hands many times throughout history. A form of this modern structure was originally built as protection against pirates, but it turned out to be a major attack by the turks in 1571 that proved the value of these walls. They burned the entire town to the ground, but luckily the citizens of Hvar were able to find safe shelter up here. Eventually Hvar lost its strategic importance and the fort was turned into a disco, and now, a museum with some incredible views. Seeing the Fortress is definitely one of the best things to do in Hvar.
Pokonji dol Beach - A great local beach close to old town Hvar.
Laganini Lounge - let’s call it what it is, Croatia has become a hot spot for summertime fun. Influencers, Athletes and Affluent people, all crowd in for "yacht week" and beach parties. The Croatian coastline, especially here between Split and Dubrovnik are right up there with Italy, Greece, Ibiza, and the South of France for decadent vacations. Since we have been on a Croatia Road Trip across the country on a budget, we haven’t really got to experience the fancier side of things to do in Hvar. Today, we change that by going to Laganini Lounge via a short taxi boat ride from Hvar Old Town.
Local Dinner - While I was planning this Croatia trip, a good friend of mine from back home said if we ever made it Hvar, his family would love to invite us over for dinner and make a traditional Croatian meal - Peka. We had local Hvar Wine, amazing prosciutto and cheese and I learned how to make Peka. It was the perfect night, and THE best thing to do in Hvar (if you can find a nice local family to take you in).
I hope you enjoyed this video of things to do in Hvar, Croatia ❤️ If so, please hit that "👍" button, and leave a comment!

Hi there. I'm from Hvar, and I just want to tell you - finally. Finally someone taped a normal video about this place, and trudt me, you just scrathed the surface of Hvar, and in general, whole Croatian coast lifestyle, nature, tradition and heritage. But YES, that's great example. Enough with stupid parties, and other fake things. Good job.

@@thebigl156 it wouldn’t be peka if you made it in the oven. It has to be made with the coals and the special bell shaped pan.
@Kokolo-ze2cp
@Kokolo-ze2cp 2 жыл бұрын
@@thebigl156 to put it as simply possible, Peka is a name for a specific Croatian technique of preparing food and simultaneously a name for the specific tools (and place where the meal is prepared) as a whole and its not the name of the dish itself, for example when you tell a Croatian "Peka" our association will be the bell and the traditional stone oven not necessarily the dish prepared in it. If you say it more specifically like "Hobotnica na peku" (Octopus Peka style) or Hobotnica ispod peke" (Octopus under Peka, in this case meaning under the bell) we're going to know you're talking about the actual dish and what kind od peka dish it is. So Peka in a normal home oven is simply not Peka. And it's not only because of the tools you need to use for it to be a real Peka but because of the flavours that can only be attained by this technique.

Croatians are originally Slavic nation, more precise they are South Slavic tribe. I like to call Croatians as " South Americans of Slavic world ". Hi Gareth! Your vids in Croatia recently made it onto my recommended page, and I'm super glad they did, cause I think you've really done a fantastic job showcasing the country's diversity and hospitality. It's been a joy seeing my own country through your eyes, it's easy to forget sometimes how amazing your own surroundings really are. I especially enjoyed this episode because of the family that invited you over for dinner, that lady is a star! Next time you visit, I'd suggest you make your way out to Vis, it's the most remote permanently populated island, very similar to Hvar but a bit more chilled out, it is THE best. My family's from there but, to quote the lady from the video "I'm not biased, really I'm not" :) Looking forward to the next video, cheers from Split!

It shoul not be too difficult, could be your host or a neighbour even a taxi driver. I talked to a Danish guy on a plane that bought a house in dalmatia just cos he liked the neighbour so much, they still get druk every chance he is in. One time a taxi driver sent me to the best konoba (restaurant) ever. Talk to everyone honestly and Im sure you will be fine.

That was the whole point of the episode... to show people that the expensive places are never as good as home cooking or local establishments 😉

Pro Tip: It is not Havar, it is Hvar. I know, it is almost impossible. But, ...but I am very impressed by you uttering Mljet. Sounds legit to me and I am from Ston.

@@GarethLeonard You do it very well. Thank you. I am a native of Zagreb. This area, which is the subject of this episode, I only got to know through the war. But very accurate and without tourists. At that time from 1991 as a professional officer in the IV Brigade ZNG.
