HVL is not a point guard. She is a shooting guard! What's the deal with forcing her to play the guard position!
@alphasports37439 ай бұрын
@@ivansalazar5448 Does it matter? Can she guard SGs? No ... because many time Poa played 1 and HVL played 2 she was missing open shots. Even at 1 vs Iowa when missed open shots. LSU beat Iowa because Morris hit those open shots at PG. SC beat Iowa because Johnson hit those open shots at PG and when you make those shots it forces the opponent to guard you. Lets be real HVL struggled vs D2 schools. Did you see the Middle Tennessee St game she scored 4pts in the 4th quarter. She was benched because the MST PG ran by her and scored 10pts in the 1st quarter. I think HVL missed 3 shots and one was blocked underneath the goal. So stop fooling yourself like I was fooled I thought HVL was a better shooter according to her 19pts she averaged teh year before but it was because she played more minutes and any player in the country. I was hoping she would be a better shooter than Alexis Morris when I saw her training video, especially from 3 but I was wrong. You really think HVL can guard MK12? Can she guard and 2 on SC ... Going from LSU to Miss State, I don't see how this will helps HVLs WNBA draft status next year...because the reason she left Louisville for LSU was to hone her point guard (PG) skills. And as you said, if going to Miss State puts her back in a shooting guard role...how's that going to help her with her lack of PG skills. The biggest issue for HVL-in my humble opinion, which has ruined any chance for her being drafted in the 1st or 2nd round of next year’s WNBA draft is her lack of size, and slowness of foot. Especially on the defensive end where I don't see her being able to guard the more athletic and bigger guards in the W! She was unfortunately expose by Caitlin Clark-whom I might add is also slow of foot! when Iowa beat LSU in the Elite 8 game. That was the difference in the guards from UConn and SC who were able to interrupt Caitlin Clark’s game doing the Final 4 and Championship game-their guards had the size, foot speed, and athleticism to stay with Caitlin. Bottom line…I don’t see this help HVL improve her draft stock for next year’s WNBA draft!

@@back2sports It wasn't a criticism by any means. I also think the story itself is very interesting. She has a large following, so of course simply in terms of absolute numbers, there will be many haters and supporters. It's not clear what the proportion of haters and supporters is though. I think HVL is way better than what was demonstrated this past year at LSU. One thing that always caught my attention watching LSU games and highlights is that every time the ball is in the post or paint, there are always double or triple teams on the bigs. And yet they rarely kick out to HVL. In my opinion, this single detail, if implemented would have made them so much better and potentially unstoppable. She is a very good shooter, but her shots this year were mostly off the dribble going towards the paint. The bigs would force things, and I think the entire dynamic reflects badly on Mulkey's coaching ability.
@mvfe2129 ай бұрын
Honestly, I think that even if you replaced HVL with Caitlin Clark on that team, assuming that the system is the same, I don't see Caitlin performing much better as point guard. Sure, she would score because she has much higher confidence and gren light than HVL and would shoot from far out. But her assists would be way down. The system and big-centered-culture is the problem at LSU. The players and the ball don't move in a continuous dynamic and this is true both in the half court and in transition. It's also why their success is no indication that their bigs will succeed at the next level. They rely a lot on brute force. Now of course, nothing is absolute. Flaujae is definitely a demonstration of high-level finesse-based skill. The sort that succeeds at the next level.
