I love the HXFX. Currently running it into a 2 x 12 stereo cabinet, with a Laney IRT60 head into a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker, fairly dry, and the other output through an Orange Terror Stamp with reverb, delays, mods, etc through its effects loop - into a CelestionG12 Anniversary speaker. The sound guy just mic's each speaker and pans them apart. It sounds great.

I’ve used an m9 for years and debating on this vs 1 or 2 new pedals for a small pedal board. I got the pod go but this makes a lot of sense and would fit me a bit better. I set my pod go up as just pedals and it works for now but I could use a few more blocks. Although my m9 sounds good. Oh got my timmy figured out and it sounds great just like you said. Thanks.

@@tappistrt I think I am going to get one. Did a test with my m9 into the pod go loop and the same effects with mods and delays sounded the same. The overdrives where much better plus like you said you get all the new effects. I was surprised how much the chorus’s and delays sounded alike when everyone says it’s much more high fidelity. I put the pod go into the loop of my Mesa 550.

HX effects is the perfect pedal for me - perfect for into amp if you want, or into an amp in a box type pedal for silent practice. I've used it with a pre-amp in its effect loop and then put an IR as the last block in the chain with fantastic results. Completely underrated

Great vid John and I’d defo suggest sitting the HXFX in an FX loop of the Stomp. I’m doing this currently which allows the Stomp to handle all my amp modelling and gain needs while the HXFX takes care of everything else. This gives you a multitude of footswitch options plus a SUPER portable rig too, especially as I’m using a teeny Strymon Ojai with 2 current doublers (NOT voltage doublers!) to power the two units which gets rid of the 2 clunky gigantic plug issues. Also, remember this: drink the coffee, NOT the Vanish. Stay safe out there bud and sending warm wishes too😎👊☕️

Have you thought of running the stomp in the loop of the hx effects? Wondering why you chose that routing vs. The other.
@johnnathancordy3 жыл бұрын
You can power both with one Ojai? Interesting!
@badalicemusic3 жыл бұрын
@@theodorekleban9483 yeah, I’ve tried it that way too but for my needs - I’m running a Slash Dunlop wah into the front of the Stomp (just personal preference) - I find that doing things this way round works best for the moment. That said, the flexibility of how you can link these two devices is fantastic and both methods offer so may opportunities!
@badalicemusic3 жыл бұрын
@@johnnathancordy yep, and discovering that was one of the big motivating factors for running an HXFX and HX Stomp rig. Both of them plus a standard size pedal, in my case an Echorec, can all be powered by the Ojai and fit neatly on a Pedaltrain Metro 20 board. Again, be sure to use a CURRENT doubler not a voltage one or you could end up frying both units! FYI Voodoo Lab make the ones I use and an added bonus is that running everything off the Strymon Ojai - there’s one power output lead left for the Echorec - means you only need one plug socket to power the whole shebang. I’ll post a pic of my board on the FB Helix group and tag you so you can see what I mean.

I was in a hospital for quite some time and now I've to catch up on your videos.. this is a particular good one. Even though the HX Stomp is impressive and a really powerful device for its price and size for me personally as someone who prefers to use his own (pre)amps the HX Effects is the best device Line 6 offers. I've tried to like pedals but I just don't. If I use effects I prefer to use MIDI and presets, I don't like cable salad and having stuff of higher value lying in the 'beer spill zone' and I prefer a hassle-free experience so even though I was hesitant and would've preferred the HX FX to be a 1U rack unit just like the old Pro effects it has just so much more to offer than the old Pro effects or M-series and it contains all those 'legacy' effects and even though it's a pedal it's also my footswitch for channel switching on my (pre)amp and it prevents me from buying any more singular effect pedals for some rarely used sounds; like I'm not a Fuzz nor a Wah guy but I got pretty decent Fuzz and Wah sounds out of the HX FX for the rare occasions when I do use them, I don't need its Od/Dist models but sometimes it's nice to play around with them. Having a variety of EQs and compressors is also neat.. I haven't practiced my clean two handed tapping in weeks or even months and my string to string volume isn't just where it should be? No problem, the HX FX got my back. Then there's a looper, really nice just for playing around or solo gigs. I even got rid of my Whammy DT after the 3.x firmware upgrade dropped. I do regret it a bit not having the regular Helix when I read about the 3.x true preset spillover that I've used extensively when I had a 2112/2120 back in the day but that's the price you pay for not going full digital I guess. When gigging is back on I'll probably just take my amp/preamp and the HX Effects paired with an expression and a volume pedal (to free up a block and have one of those two EXP jacks available for channel switching). For me the HX Effects is the way to go.

Don't know if this has already been pointed out or if you already knew it, but if you're in Stomp mode and you hold your finger for a few seconds on the button for a particular effect, it will "explode" all the parameters for that effect across multiple scribble strips. So you don't need to use the left and right arrows to see all of the parameters available. Apologies for the waste of time if you knew this but I saw you using the left and right arrows on the video. 👍

I initially had a hx effects used it with my AC 30. Then I sold the effects to get the floor and sat the AC30 in the corner. Then I kept the floor and got a podgo as a back up and more in house friendly. Then I sold the podgo and got a stomp, then added the hx effects to it. So basically now I have the floor, and a hx stomp/hx effects board as a back up. I wanted the effects so whenever I pull the AC30 back out I have a pedal board ready to go. I know I have too much. But the line 6 stuff is so fun to play with and sounds pretty great! Thanks so much for these videos. I second the request to do a hx stomp into hx effects video. I've had my HXFX since October 2018 and love that it can be used in any of four ways - into the amp as a "pedalboard", as a delay/reverb/modulation machine in a traditional effects loop setup (drives don't work well here!), using your favorite preamp/amp-in-a-box in one of the two FX Loops and use drives before and delay/reverb after (how I use it now), and using 4-cable method to put various effects in front or behind the amp's preamp (drives work as intended here!).
