UPDATE... literally the day this video went live, I was getting ready for service the next morning and the UA Dream pedal was fighting me all the way because I used a different brand of strings on my guitar and the pedal decided it didn't like it and started distorting. So I used the Stomp instead and the different strings were still affecting the tone, but it wasn't a problem. So although I think the Dream sounds "better", I've decided that the Stomp is the better tool overall for P&W in church. That's the definitive answer, for me. But the Dream pedal has other use cases that make it special among amp modelers, I'll get into detail in an upcoming video.

10:50 really appreciated you pointing this out. Hope UA updates the app to allow people to see the actual knob / toggle positions for presets.

I love the idea of the UA pedals but I feel bang for buck, the Tone X is a better option. I sold my kemper to get an hx stomp because I wanted to downsize, but I was never satisfied with the amp tones in the stomp, I never got a breakup sound I liked, also DSP has always been a challenge. I bought the IK Tone X to take care of the amps, plug it in to the fx loop of the stomp and I love it, I have all de DSP I need for effects, I can run dual amps if I want. The drawback from the Tone X is that you have to dig for your tone, is not like the Dream where you turn it on and it sounds amazing immediately.

Yeah that makes sense... The thing that I would expect the tonex won't do, that the UA Dream pedal does do, is give you the user experience that an amp gives you when you're experimenting and playing at home. I actually have a follow-up video on the subject that I'm still editing.

It must be really tiring to be a ‘worship’ guitar player. For playing two notes and some chords there is all this rant about gear. I also play in church, also worship but also jazz and other styles. I have the dream and it sounds fantastic. What I noticed though is that it sounds better before wet effects. Before I had an iridium and I had it at the end of the signal chain and it sounded great. Someone was commenting on a KZbin video saying that worship guitar players are the pickiest there are and it’s true. A bit ironical though since worship is such a repetitive, minimalistic style and you ‘need’ all this great gear. As you pointed out in the video, maybe just sticking with the helix or a similar modeler is more than enough since in church you always use reverb, delay, overdrive and chorus so who is going to notice the difference anyway?

No one at church ever noticed the difference between the hx amp models and the dream. But they did notice when I since switched to the Kemper. Tons of compliments every time I play now, even from people who you would think aren't paying close attention to the guitar tone. Best two notes I ever played.

Why not just call it "clean" or "no distortion". Worship just implies its in a church which has nothing to do with a clean sound from an amp. The term "worship" in association with guitar makes no sense.

actually a lot of electric guitar parts in worship music have distortion, sometimes a lot. But in this video I talk about clean headroom in a different context at times. For instance, there's a difference between tube distortion and speaker distortion, so when I talk about one of my three worship tones being 'dirty' that's tube distortion but when i talk about distorting the speaker emulations that's (simulated) speaker distortion. Speaker distortion sounds fizzy or flubby, depending on what frequencies are clipping, and that's what I'm talking about when i say the dream pedal can sound like "wet farts" if you don't dial that out. Also, speaker distortion isn't necessarily bad. Early 'classic rock' like "Won't get fooled again" by the who or "10 years gone" by Led Zepplin had a lot of it because they wanted more distortion than the amp heads could give them. But as soon as the amps started being able to distort a lot without clipping the speakers, everyone went with that because it sounds much better.

Play in a worship band for a while. Even the chords used are some that i haven’t seen before in other genres. And bottom line….. it doesn’t matter what you call it as long as youre doing the lords work.

Thanks! I think for it to be a fair comparison I would have to use the blackface deluxe reverb equivalent in the stomp, but I don't really use that one and I don't have a patch for it. I guess this is my impetus to make one lol... Right now the only fender based model that I've been using is the princess, which is based on a blackface Princeton reverb.
