I’m just an old country boy that loves to hunt and watch The Andy Griffith Show in his spare time. I had never heard of English Comedies or Keeping Up Appearances for that matter until my better half introduced me to Mrs. Bouquet spelled Bucket, one morning about 10 years ago and been watching reruns ever since. The opening tune to KUA always sounded familiar to me and then it finally came to me. When I was a teenager, we had an old Hungarian widow that lived next door that I would do yard work for, and I always heard that tune through her screen door. It’s an unmistakable tune and it brought back so many memories when I connected the two. Anytime now when I’m home, and it’s a beautiful morning I’ll open up the main door and just let air come through the screen door and kick back to Keeping Up Appearances. I can sometimes hear that old Hungarian laugh when I’m watching. Anyhow this was one of my favorite episodes and was glad it was an hour long special. I always wanted to hear Patricia Routledge talk about making that scene with Geoffrey Hughes, RIP. I always liked him as Onslow. I bet he was comical in real life. I’m glad Patricia still stays active. Sad to hear that Clive Swift left us though. May they all enjoy candle light suppers in heaven.

Hyacinth was not a narcissist. That term gets thrown around far too easily these days. She was just a keeping up with the Joneses type. Hyacinth loved her family, and was on call to any of them any time they had a problem. She took care of Richard, she made an effort to keep a friendship with Elizabeth with no ulterior motive, and she adored Sheridan even when he wasn't making the choices she would've preferred him to. And although she was disappointed whenever she didn't get glory for her volunteer work with the church and the community, she still rolled up her sleeves and did it. A narcissist wouldn't do any of those things.
