I think an interesting and lovely thing that comes through on this wonderful program is that, no matter the situation, there is always the feeling that Richard has a sincere affection and even admiration for his wife and recognizes her good points and that Hyacinth, in her self absorbed way, returns that affection. That's the beauty of Patricia Routledge and all the other fine actors on this never to be forgotten show!!!

Yup. I used to help out a bit at some church years ago when they had a do on for Christmas or similar. There was this one woman who turned up looking like she was going to a party ("look at ME" - the rest of us were in jeans and sweaters), criticizing everybody and spreading malicious rumors. She never did any work to help of course. Vicious thing she was! Always snobbish and showing off her latest foreign vacations and whatnot. She was actually from the gutter but had married a millionaire so now she was something better of course, and boy did she let everybody know! Well, I stopped helping out when I found out that the church, of which her husband was president of whatever it's called, was in fact a cult, when the abuse from them both reached the point that it nearly cost my cat's life (yup, the woman was that unstable!!!) and when it transpired that she and her husband were involved with a number of shady goings on including money laundering. Both of them also out considerable pressure on me to join their cult, and when I refused it was of course all "you will end up in hell" yada yada yada. But of course, she was "something better" and the rest of us were "too stupid to get far in life"... yeah, sure. Ironically enough, it's me that's from a well of background but she loved to project and claim I was from the gutter... I had a good education while she dropped out of school and later out of a college course because she didn't have the required academic abilities... I saw through her but sadly many of her other victims did not as she targeted especially the vulnerable, ie people with mental disabilities, the elderly etc . Rotten piece of work she was! Hyacinth is a caring lady underneath the show off exterior, she dearly loves her family, her husband, her son, and her friends, and would do anything for them and I think she's just so pretentious because she wants to be liked. She would never actually harm anyone. But the woman I used to know - there was nothing good in her soul, if she even had a soul!
