As a Singaporean Buddhist, We take pilgrimage tour to Nepal and HYATT has been our number 1 choice for stays for 10 years. The hotel is so close to Boudha main stupa. Perfect for Dharma practitioners and pilgrims. Plus people from Himalayas - Tibetans, Newars, Sherpas, Tamang, Dolpa and Gurung make that locality very special.

Hi Kevin! I stayed in this hotel in 2009 with my family, and I am absolutely stunned how they managed to maintain the grounds, lobby, and restaurant so well after all these years, and the rooms as well. In that part of the world, it's really a struggle to do so.
@tfftАй бұрын
Wholly agree with that. It's wildly inconsistent which is why this one remains such a gem!

Stayed here in 2014, and loved this hotel and its excellent restaurant. There is a path from the rear of the hotel to the Boudanath Stupa in the Tibetan neighborhood - wonderful to have this spiritual enclave so close by. There is a lot to see in Kathmandu - several temple districts, the area at a tributary of the Ganges where cremations occur, a monkey refuge on a hilltop, and the "Kumari Gar", where the Nepalese girl venerated (for a few years) as a "living goddess" resides. Kathmandu is a short flight from Delhi or Varanasi, and well worth a visit even if you aren't going onward to the mountains.

Hi Kevin. It's me again. Post Script to my last comment on this review. I've just watched it again and paid a little more attention to it. You have certainly whetted my appitite for this hotel. I will probably stay here in 2027 and add a couple of day before my trek, acouple after my trek and a couple after my visit to Chitwan. It looks and sounds absolutely fabulous. You certainly do have a super job. Don't ever stop. Thank you🙃🙂❤

Hi. You will not be disappointed with Kathmandu. I am planning my 5th visit in 2027 to celebrate my 80th birthday. I haven't stayed at this hotel but have stayed at the Shangri La 3 times and Kathmandu Guest House twice. Had to stay at KGH after an expedition because UN had taken over Shangri La hotel as a base after the 2015 earthquake.

Absolutely loving the Kangaroo route series! As an Australian, my parents flew Qantas to Europe during the days of 4-5 stops (Singapore, Bahrain, Rome, one other I forget, London), yet these days we're lucky to do one stop (and almost direct soon). Keep up the great work! My one question was regarding water safety, given Nepal's ongoing issues. Was the water at the property safe to drink, or was it bottled only?

Thanks for sharing this video. It was nostalgic to watch this video about the hotel. I was working there some 23-24 years ago as part of the construction management team. It took quite a bit of time to build it due to various reasons. I want to stay there nyself someday. It seems like a nice and reasonable hotel.

As always a great review. If I may make one quick comment about the format Kevin: the added interruptions to your recent videos (subscribe, follow this series , etc) do feel like they throw off the momentum. If I changed one thing, I would either keep them at the beginning or end.
@JordCAАй бұрын
I'm ok with it. He usually places it at the end of the "cold opening" . It feels like its in the right place, and is a good reminder. Because I like his videos a lot, I hit like at the beginning to get it out of the way. This channel is worth supporting.
@tfftАй бұрын
Yes I can appreciate that. I’ll say that in shorter videos like this one, it inevitably feels more interruptive… but I’d be lying if I said that wasn’t kinda the point of putting it in the middle. More eyes and ears = more subscribers = more future videos.

But isn't the value argument highly dependent on locale? Like won't a hotel in Nepal obviously be cheaper than an equivalent one in New York or Paris?

Of course and my comments are (always) relative to that. Same random day next April: Hyatt Regency Kathmandu: 5000 Hyatt Points = $110 Hilton Kathmandu: 30000 Hilton Points = $180 Kathmandu Marriott: 39000 Bonvoy Points = $273

Why did you skip Dhaka, Bangladesh? You never travelled over there and this kangaroo series was your opportunity. If you can go to Kolkata, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka so why not Bangladesh as it was close to those countries you visited?
@tfftАй бұрын
I mean, "skip" is an odd word in this context. Rather than being a bit judgy, perhaps you could just ask, "Hey Kevin, do you have plans to visit Bangladesh?"... to which I would reply, "Yes." Not to mention Dhaka was never a part of the Kangaroo Route service lol

@aaronadam4747Ай бұрын
@tfft Please don't mind that it seems you are very angry with me. The fact of the matter is that Bangladesh is the least traveled place for foreign tourists in the world so it is obvious that you would not be excited to go there. What I meant was that since you were in Kolkata and Kathmandu, Dhaka was just 1 hour flight away (ideal for a brief layover at Dhaka airport Le Meridien hotel) and you could have tried Biman, US Bangla, Himalaya Airlines or even Drukair which has 5th freedom flights (BKK-DAC). Anyways you can make up for it for a full Bangladesh series featuring hotel and flight reviews in your future videos. Sorry for being very annoying. Forgive me.
