Great review as always! I like that you always measure the trunk space of the cars based on whether you can fit inside or not.

Same year, color & transmission as my daily driver! I drive approximately 450 miles a week. Bad IMA battery & I’m still getting 45 mpg. 😎

A crack doesn't develop in the B-pillar, it's the seal around the roof trim shrinks and allows rain water to get into the b-pillar.
@Super_Charged4life5 ай бұрын
On g1 insights cracks do happen where the hatch is.
@sigmaprojects5 ай бұрын
@@Super_Charged4life i can see that, but it's pretty uncommon for it to allow rain intrusion. Nearly all 1Gs will have the seals leak in the roof trim causing the seat belts to get wet, pretty rare for it to come from the hatch area.

This is one of my "dream" cars. Even though I could afford one, I want one for the purpose of EV conversion- the light weight aluminum body plus the aero friendly shape has too much potential. Ad revenue boosted 👍

Nice review. Hey I recognize that rear spoiler. Correction there are other hybrids with manual tranny, both the 7th gen Civic hybrid and the CRZ. How in the world is your SOC only 28%. Andrew please don't ride in the back you will live longer. Nice review but the Fisker distraction takes from it, we're talking about a Honda today....

ur missing the fit hybrid in japan. and yea im surprised the screen didnt start flashing when it went to 28% might have to do a test and see how low it goes. i dont think it will drop below 28% tho

I have an 01 Honda Insight and I absolutely love it. I've owned it for just over 6 years, and bought it with 84,000kms, and it’s currently sitting at just over 196,000kms. I might as well plug the review I did based on my ownership, if you want some more Insight content 😅 kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipTRpIStot2Daq8si=ebLsqfcj2hKd2QeM I'm not sure I'd call the Insight sporty though, at least, not stock. It handles very well, and the interior is more on the luxurious side than other Honda economy cars (it shares the steering wheel with the s2k, so that gives some sportiness), but it’s very slow to accelerate and quickly loses power going up any kind of incline. Also, somehow, despite mine being far from water-tight, me living in a literal rainforest, and my car having been parked outside for the bulk of my ownership, it has yet to develop the SRS light issue. Although my seatbelt can get quite damp if left outside on rainy days.

You're very sexy! Full disclosure, I don't like hybrids, it's like half a combustion vehicle and half an EV and mostly they can limp along in all electric mode for just a few miles before needing their combustion engine. It's the worst of both worlds. I do like this Honda, it's quirky and weird and I'm all over that. AFAIK this car cannot drive on electric power alone, but I still have a weak spot for them, purely based on the look of it. Keep up the good work!
@ElectrekGarage9 ай бұрын
I agree with your sentiment on hybrids but I recognize not everyone is ready for full EVs and hybrids are a great gateway drug!
@Blzut39 ай бұрын
The IMA system in the Insight is basically "just" a 10-ish HP starter motor and the alternator is replaced with a DC-DC converter. There is a backup starter so it can run with the IMA disabled, but you are correct that it can't run electric only. Even if it was allowed to, it wouldn't be a great experience even ignoring the battery pack being a kWh or two. I think one of the things that often missed when people say hybrids are the "worst of both worlds" is that in some ways hybrids are mechanically simpler than conventional vehicles. Toyota's HSD system and Honda's newer i-MMD for example are effectively fixed gear transmissions (eCVT is terrible branding even if they can be thought about that way) and contain the same number of electric motors as a conventional car they're just much beefier.
@jochenstacker74489 ай бұрын
@@Blzut3 thanks for that reply. Well, gearboxes is where hybrids fall down sometimes. If the engine is driving the wheels directly, you need a clutch and gearbox, with all the complications, loss and weight gain that brings. And oil changes, exhaust system and so on and so forth, it makes no difference to an actual ICE vehicle. The great beauty of an EV is that is has no clutch and no need to change gears, because it's fixed. If the engine doesn't drive the wheels, it's a very different ballgame and those are indeed simpler and the engine is less stressed, because it just runs at the ideal RPM to charge the battery. As an aside, I always laugh at people who poke fun at an EV charging at a diesel generator, but say that hybrids are a practical solution, but that is of course neither here nor there. 😁
