Honestly opened my eyes. I was raised to believe that you should always expect respect and appreciation from people because it’s just the “right way to act” I guess. I’ve subconsciously been expecting things from people that I deem to be “simple” and almost basic common courtesy, but the disappointment and tank in self esteem when I don’t receive these things is not worth it. I don’t need the respect, kindness, and and appreciation from others to repay that of my own, because the lack thereof just makes my self worth decline until I feel like I don’t even deserve these things

Hi Hampton, old senior lady, new viewer, and love your calisthenics videos; I am working to regain the strength the flexibility I had at age 8, nearly 60 years ago. Just wanted to share something our pastor told us last week about doing nice things for others, and he was talking in terms of Christians- it is a quote from the great reformer of the church, Martin Luther: “God does not need your good deeds, but your neighbor does!” It really helped me understand why we help others, because they are all our neighbors.

Wow so true, I realized it now that it is the reason for my misery. I did 'things' for my family, although I had a depressing childhood. At that time I didn't consciously thought about getting something in return. But when I turned 30, I asked them for a little help for the first time in my life. They denied. And then I felt exactly as you described. It carried for me to my relationship too. Misery, schizophrenia, bipolar and toxicity all because I couldn't live with other people not helping me when I needed. I need to get over this rage and forgive people in my life.
@Maniac-0073 жыл бұрын
Most people assume that you don’t get anything in return when giving charity to others. But throughout my life, every single time that I did something for someone, I do get SOMETHING in return, which is SATISFACTION & HAPPINESS. Seeing the smiles of others is a huge reward and can often make me cry a little. It makes you think how something that is so small and insignificant can mean the whole world to someone else. So yeah, you will get that one thing that no one can buy. To you that is reading this comment, keep on giving and spreading good things my friend. ❤️
@oldesertguy96162 жыл бұрын
I watched my dad loan people money (the WRONG people), with the promise of repayment, only to become upset and stressed when they didn't pay him back. I learned, one, never to give someone money unless they really need it, and two, GIVE them money, then forget about it. If you are waiting for someone to return a compliment, pay you back for a favor, etc, then you are setting yourself up for heartbreak. I also learned not to accept "help" from certain people, because they expected some type of return favor and will hold you to this, even if their "help" wasn't something you asked for. A lot of people are hung up on the quid pro quo thing and nothing is given out of the goodness of their heart. Some people genuinely want to help, and you need to treasure those people.

I also truly believe in this.. along my life journey I’ve been a giver, I’ve learned lessons from being this way as far as when I was young expecting back, resentment etc.. once I got wiser I was able to find more balance, for instance being able to say no, which I’ve always struggled with, although now I’m still very much a giver without expectation and a much healthier balance.. great video!🙌🏼

In Islam/Arabic, there's this word called "Ikhlas", which mean "sincerity". We believe that whenever you do something or give something to others with "Ikhlas", God will repay you one way or another with different kinds of blessings. So it is always taught to help and give to others especially to the less privileged as much as you can without expecting anything from other people. I've personally experienced this many times in my life and i truly believe in it. I hope God rewards you for being such a beautiful soul and sharing knowledge and wisdom to the world. May you prosper here and the Afterlife. 🙂

Oh Hampton, I just discovered you last night, had already gone, "I *really* like this guy," but with this video you've cemented it. This has pretty much been my philosophy through most of my life - you do things because they're the right thing to do, not because of what you're hoping to get out of them. Whether it's picking up a piece of garbage laying on the ground, mowing an elderly neighbour's lawn for them, or starting a group or event to give back to the community that helped make your own life better, you do it because it's the right thing to do, and kindness matters. More power to you mate!

What an amazing video and person. You gave us this video and I subscribed. See you give you get back. But you are so right. I heard this many times from people that giving they get back and more sometimes but the right attitude is to give and not expect anything in return. And dating is the perfect example. Men give to women but of course they expect something in return. Don't do that boys. Don't be resentful if you don't get back. Give if it makes you feel good. Don't give to get something in return. I give without expecting anything and it's one of the best feelings in the world. ❤

in a good relationship giving is done out of love and love is understood easily. if you like a flower or find it beautiful you pluck it and keep it around for yourself until it dies and you throw it away, but if you love the flower you'll improve its soil, make sure it gets enough sunlight but not too much, you water it and tend to its needs so it can grow and thrive.and in a perfect relationship you are both the flower and the caretaker to each other.
