Hybrids: When to and Why to Use a Hybrid

Great description of the uses the the hybrid Mike. I also like to use it if I’m just a couple feet off of the green. A simple putting stroke with the hybrid usually gets the ball on to the green with a nice roll out.

Hi Mike! Nice instruction on using hybrids in fairway bunkers and tight lies. Also like the advice on laying up rather than trying to reach the green in face of hazards. Hybrids have been love and hate for me for a couple years. Now, I'm in the love mode. Love hitting a 4 hybrid for second shot on Par 5's to lay up just inside 100 yards. For me, easier to hit than fairway woods which can also reach too much trouble.

I know I'm odd, but I hit my long irons WAY better and easier than my hybrid . . .

I was thinking the hybrids replaced the longer irons....but I recently got new clubs (after using Hogan Producers from ‘74) and only have 1 hybrid to bridge the gap between 5-iron and 3-wood. I guess, for one thing, the newer irons are all hyped up : longer and lower lofts, that today’s 5 iron is like an old 3-iron?
