KEEP IN MIND THAT THE MANUAL SAYS: "Hydrasynth Deluxe must be in Single mode to use the Overflow feature." THAT MEANS THAT HAVING ANOTHER HYDRA HOOKED UP WOULD GIVE YOU 24 NOTE POLYPHONY BUT IT WOULD NOT MAKE IT THREE PART MULTI-TRIMBAL. IN FACT, IT MIGHT FORCE UNIT THREE TO PLAY THE SAME PATCH AS UNITS ONE AND TWO. IRDK. ALSO, WOULDN'T THIS HAVE BEEN A LOT COOLER IF THEY HAD TURNED THE TWO SETS OF DUAL FILTERS INTO A FOUR FILTER MATRIX, AVAILABLE FOR BOTH INTERNAL VOICE ENGINES TO SHARE? I THINK NOW THAT I MIGHT BE BETTER OFF JUST GETTING AN ADDITIONAL DESKTOP MODULE TO GO WITH THE 49 KEY MODEL.

this is like a dream come true. I love playing split full keyboard. it's going to be a hassle trying to sell my 49-key version and upgrade to this. Even though they're reasonably priced I didn't have the budget and still don't. but it's my only modern full sized keyboard and I'll figure it out.

The Hydrasynth Deluxe looks beautiful, the knobs feel fantastic, the mod wheels and the keybed feel fantastic; these are the most important things. Then, there comes the sound, which is amazing, and the interface, which is brilliant!!!. And all for $1,799. It seems to have some Ensoniq instruments concepts in it, and some Kurzweil concepts in it, and it will surely give Korg, Roland, and Yamaha a run for their money. It's great, because this will make these companies think how to make their products more competitive. The Hydrasynth Deluxe sets the bar very high right now for synthesizers.

Kudos to ASM for not settling at 5 octaves. With poly AT and the ribbon controller, this will become the centerpiece of the rig for more than a few players.

I got it for some time now and I must say: well done. Only thing that I misunderstood was the nature of the mutants. I actually thought they would carry out the function according to their names but they rather seem to be some waveshaping algorithms. Hence, Wavestack sound does not compare to real unison. FM does not have that "bite" and Hard Sync seems to create some artifacts when pitch if the source is modulated. Am I mistaking? That said, it makes sense, of course, that there are no magic additional voices for Wavestack or magic additional oscillators. So, I find these a refreshing set of "waveshapers". My whish for features: - Ability to set the start phase of the OSC - Wider range of ENV to Pitch for drum sounds - ping pong delay - pre FX before filter - External audio input to route through filter & FX Tanks a lot for building the hydrasynth!

Very good. I don‘t need bi-timbrality that much ‘cause many of my HS patches are already bi-timbral and I‘ve got other synths for additional layers. But a 6-octave *poly AT* keyboard is fantastic - always running out of real estate on the 4-octave version.

Dear ASM Team: Please make it possible to have the "voice Number" as modulation source. So you can make a vintage feeling ala Sequential "vintage Knob" (diverging envelope times per voice) Its the most simple and effective way to engage life to any synth. Every voice is unique..... I'm curious about the same thing! On the original HS, the ribbon has its own dedicated oscillator, but shares the same patch as the keyboard. But now that there are TWO sound engines...here's hoping this is possible!

yes it can, just enter multi, then set multi mode to keysplit, the keyspilt point to the lowest, now the keybed just play upper's sound, then go to upper's ribbon setting, set it to mod only but don't assign anything, finally go to lower's ribbon setting, set it to Theremin Mode, now you can use keybed to play upper's sound and ribbon to play lower's sound as Theremin.

Looks great - well thought out with the ability to edit both layers at the same time and do cross-faded splits, and well done for going to 73 keys. My one remaining wish would be for truly stereo polyphonic unison spread (multiple copies detuned and panned) oscillator 'mutant' rather than just in unison mode.. stereo analog filters for another time/design.

Are you referring to the Wavestack Mutant not being satisfactory?

I have no idea on the details of how the wavestack mutant was implemented, but it does not sound like independently detuned oscillator copies, and certainly without stereo spreading of those copies. It sounds more a simple mono chorus - but could be something else entirely. In the unison voice mode there's a more typical uni-detune with pan spread implementation you can find in many soft synths, but that requires monophonic mode. (I implemented polyphonic multi-oscillator copy per voice unison detune with stereo spreading in Hyperion Synth plugin oscillators - was hoping the Hydrasynth Wavestack would be more like that). Still, it's great that Hydrasynth oscillators can be panned, and maybe there is just a CPU limitation to do that (pan spread unison detune) per voice - still a great synth (I have the desktop version and it's a keeper - but IMO needs complementing with a warmer sounding synth).

@@wavesequencer Yes that us exactly how I experienced it. But thinking about it, it makes sense: Real Unison per Voice would require additional voices. Other synths have a dedicated OSC mode for this, but mostly for Saw ("Hyperdaw", "Ultrasaw"...). Here (as written in my other comment), the mutants are merly some sophisticated waveshaping algorithm's. From what I hear, there is no actual FM, Hard Sync or Unison at work. Correct me if I am wrong. In the Deluxe, I made a Multi with two Unison patches layered, so at least two notes can be played simultaneously. So, add to the feature wishlist the " balanced " unison mode that Wavesequencer suggested!

Next, you should make a synth that bests the Blofeld. We need a vast multi-timbral soundscape without all the menu diving and with quality and affordability like this (and not on 15 year old hardware.) In the meantime I'm definitely about to burden my Sweetwater card with one of these synths though.

This looks great! Is it possible to play the upper and lower layer with separate Midi channels? And if yes, is it possible to program-change the upper and lower layer separately to call up single-layer patches, and thus use the Deluxe as a true bi-timbral synth? Or does a Program Change always change the multi, and thus both layers? That would be sad…

Says on the ASM site that upper and lower layers can be assigned different MIDI channels. And CV control will be via upper. There are even separate stereo outs on the back for each layer! Good question on the separate layer patch switching. If not, I would think a work-around would be switching to a new multipatch with one same, one different layer. And faster change-up too. But...the language I'm reading on the site is saying two layer or split patches are saved as MultiPatches. Doesn't sound the same as two separate patches, but I'm uncertain as to all the flexibility of this architecture.

There are many reasons actually. #1 cost, it costs a lot to go internal because you then to include multiple physical cables for every AC outlet option in the world. (one company does not supply any cable and expects you to go buy your own) #2 there are many standards of certification around the world and for each product you would need these certifications over and over. External 3rd party supplies are typically pre-approved when you buy them...so again cost. #3 if a power supply dies, getting a fix, especially for touring musicians, can be difficult, time consuming and expensive. A 12V 2a supply is very easily sourced and inexpensive in most places in the world and you can always have spares with you if you are touring. We try to be practical and try to keep the cost of products well below that of what they would be at other companies. In places where the benefit is negligible, we opt for practical solutions and saving cost to the end user. We also now have our logo in bright orange text on the supply so that you can easily see which adaptor is the Hydras when you are crawling around under a desk trying to figure out what is what.

A very interesting machine. But I don't understand why shifting the entire interface completely to the left, it is ugly, unbalanced and not practical. And the huge "HYDRASYNTH Deluxe" on the right doesn't make it any better. Sadly, a no go for me...
