I was considering the Explorer but until yet very few demos convinced me on the Hydrasynth. This is the best one, that chords stabs at 2:20 and Funky bass sound are great!

You have to use something external like a computer or groovebox... though some people do some simple sequencing on the synth using LFOs... search here on youtube.

No advantage except less money, battery power capable, and smaller footprint. If you have the cash, get the regular or deluxe. You can always power larger ones from a jackery battery if you need to be remote with it away from an outlet.

As for getting a free synth or other piece of gear whether to keep or on loan, I've never had such luck but ask any reasonable person and I'm fairly sure they would grateful for such a wonderful opportunity - I mean it's patently obvious.

It's exactly the same sound engine, so it actually makes sense to design patches on a bigger Hydra and use the Explorer as a sound module as it's cheaper than even the desktop.

Soundwise, when wavetables go through mathematical operations, being multiplied, added, subtracted or divided, you inevitably get aliasing, and aliasing of different size too. Some people seem to be able to hear it better than others, and I am one of them. I am trying to get used to it since I otherwise absolutely love the user interface and possibilities of the latest slew of wavetable synths, but it still sounds quite cold and jarring to me, and listening to the less than 4 minutes of ths video actually makes my ears ring.

This video has about 25x too much reverb. That's twenty five, not two point five. 25x should be used for lens magnification not quantity of reverb, delay, f/x and general mess.
