Hydraulic Brake System Fluid Flush and Fill 2002 Honda Rebel 250 (CMX250C) | The Fixit shed

I think my 2002 Honda Rebel 250 (CMX250C) has not had the brake fluid changed... ever. So, it is time to flush and fill the hydraulic brake system.

This weekend I am buying a 2002 Rebel with 265 miles. The seller got it in a storage bin sale. He said he took it to a bike shop and had the maintenance done since it has been sitting so long. If your fluid looks low, check your pads. That fluid went somewhere. Probably into the caliper to take up the space left from the wearing down of the front pads.

Hopefully you don't have to replace the disc, and check how much pad material is left. I believe that approx 1/4 inch left is worn out. As long as the metal backing of the pads aren't sd cramping the disc, the disc is probably ok. I have a video about checking the brake system and also one showing me replacing the pads on my 2004 Rebel . Check those out.

I like to go the extra step of pushing the pistons into the caliper to squeeze out as much of the old juice as possible. Then pump in the fresh fluid. Just a thought.

So you don’t need to do that for rear brake then ? I’m a new rider and first time owner of a Honda rebel also what size tench do I need to loosen that nut ?

The rear brakes are not hydraulic, so there is nothing to bleed. It is just a mechanical linkage between the pedal and the rear brakes. If you are asking about the size of the brake bleeder nut, an 8mm or 5/16 will work.
