I bought a 2002 Honda Rebel 250 (CMX250C) that is 20 years old, but only has 1888 miles on it. It hasn't been on public streets for more than a decade. The previous owner did take it on the occasional spin around the development. The lack of use has taken a toll on this bike, though. The carburetor is in rough shape, the battery is toast, needs some odds and ends.
Part number for the little plastic "Y" connecting the hoses is 16180-ML6-671
Part 1: • 2002 Honda Rebel 250 (...
Part 3: • Step 3: Reassemble Car...
Part 4: • Step 4: Reinstall Carb...

Thanks for the heads-up on the needle jet. The same thing happened to me when I took my carb apart. I only knew the needle jet was stuck in there because of your comments about it. I'm sure the same thing would have happened to me after it came out of the cleaner.

Hi.. I have just brought a Honda Rebel 250 23 years old and 3000 Kms on the clock and it runs like yours did after all this time with bit of a flat spot when cold so I will be doing a O/H on the carb too. Great run down on the process and i most probably would have missed what you did so thanks for that. By the way I have what we call in Australia an ultrasonic cleaner which uses water and a little detergent and vibrates the whole carby & parts at about 40K times per second after disassembly and works a treat as nothing gets damaged ,jets , springs, whole body and earn browny points by cleaning your wifes jewellery like new. Once again Thanks.

Thanks. Yeah, it kinda is for the summer. I have 4 or 5 more Rebel videos to get up. I am trying to post weekly to churn them out faster, so that I can work on some other things that need to get done.

oh, I see now that you haven't made it yet... I was anxious to see it because I too have just bought a 2009 Rebel with 1100 miles and am having the same issue you are with the carb... I've had it apart 3 times so far and still can't get it to run right... was hoping for some insight as to how to get it right... I can't find anything wrong with it at all... it really wasn't very dirty either, but I still soaked it in Chem dip for three hours, maybe another dip... hope I can find something in your next video... keep up the good work... thanks

I hope to have part 3 up next week. In the mean time, you might want to check out the Honda Rebel Forum (www.hondarebelforum.com). Lots or Rebel carb experts there that are happy to help.

Sorry.. By the way In Aussie my 1999 250 Rebel doesn't have a centre stand either as the exhaust pipes cross over under the sump and both pies come out on the R/H side like a Yamaha Virago 250 so I brought a rear stand that lifts the back trailing arms so I can spin my back wheel to grease my chain etc..Thats the only thing that I don't like about the Rebel... Oh and no Tacho. P.IT.A. would have preferred to have one pipe either side to the back like yours. Cheers

The swing arm stand is probaby the better option, but the wheel chock stand I built was cost effective at the time. Thanks!

Thanks for the videos. I'm following a similar process as I get my new-to-me 2013 Rebel running. It has mostly sat in its 9 years - only 1000 miles - and runs the same as yours pre carb rebuild. I broke my "y" also, taking the carb off today. I haven't found a replacement yet. I can't find it on any OEM parts list I have access to. Have you sourced a replacement, or do you care? Thanks again!

It is not high on my list. One side of the "Y" goes to the fuel bowl drain and the other is just a vent. There is no real reason for them to be connected. So, I may get to it one day, but more important stuff to do for now. Best of luck with your bike! What color is it?

@@TheFixitShed Thanks! The bike is red, just like my first Rebel - a 1986 I purchased with 300 miles on it in 1988. It was my first street bike. Yeah, not high on my list either. I'll figure something out so it doesn't look broken.

I love the red color. I also had an 86 Rebel (black). It was a 450 I bought around 2006 or 7. I was driving about 100 miles/day going to school. I put almost 20k on that bike in about 2 years. Saved a ton of money in gas.

I just found the "Y" on the Honda CMX250 carburetor parts list: 16180-ML6-671 JOINT, but at 15 bucks, I don't think that will happen!

Cool! Thanks for posting the part number. I will add it to the description. I agree, $15 is a bit pricey. Maybe a little epoxy or something

Your videos are very useful and help me a lot. Quick question. In my 2009 Rebel 250, after long time of not using, I replaced battery and spark plugs. Engine does not start. I pulled out the tube that connects fuel pet cock and carb. Fuel from tank does not come out through pet cock (both in full and res positions). I have removed it from tank and I see lot of gunk in it. I could clean on the side that connects to tube. But the side that goes into fuel tank got longer copper pipe and that can not be disassembled as the pet cock is revetted. So I can't open it fully. I have tried to pump fuel through this pipe using a syringe but nothing comes out from the other side. Is there a way to clean it? Or throw it and buy new one? Thanks

New petcocks do not look that expensive in the quick search I just did. So replacing it is definitely an option. You could drill out the rivets and just use a small nut and bolt on each side to put it back together, or you could try blowing it out with an air compressor.
