Hydraulic Fluid Change and Leak Checking on the John Deere 2010

Hydraulic fluid in the John Deere 2010 was extremely low so decided to just drain out what was left and put new in. Also trying to find where the leak in the back is coming from, apparently from a hole in the bottom of the transmission that probably servers some purpose.

The hole at the back is a drain hole for the PTO clutch compartment. It usually has a cotter pin in it. If oil is dripping out, your PTO power shaft seal/flange is leaking. I just changed this seal on our 2010.

The rod on the clutch side of the tractor (2010) when depressed disengages the hydraulic system to facilitate easy start in extreme cold weather.

I know this is old, but the lever you questioned is a hyd pump disconnect for starting in cold weather. Lift he lever up and engage the arm, and depress the pedal.

The foot pedal on the left, leading to the lever down below is a bypass to the hydraulic pump. It is used for cold starts. It allows the engine to turn over easier by not having to pump cold oil. As a side note, I have heard of the pump housing cracking on a VERY cold start while NOT using the bypass.

The hole is in the p.t.o. clutch housing. This should be a dry place. Mine has a cotter pin in the hole. If oil is leaking out that hole it has to be leaking from the rock shaft hydraulic assembly or the seal on the p.t.o. shaft coming from the engine,through the transmission.

I believe the hole is a weep hole, so you can see if the seal is leakin on trans! :) Kinda like weep hole in water pump ! :) That little lever may be like parkin brake maybe gewd luck :)

Is the filter on the passenger side where you were putting in hydraulic fluid?

That lever is to disengage Everything for an easier start, then push the clutch

What do you call the two plugs/ports just behind the brake pedals? It looks like a black hydraulic hose connects the two of them together. I have a 4010 that is leaking from one of the plugs, unsure what to call it when shopping for repair parts. I'm looking at it with the video paused at 8 seconds.

Those at least on this tractor are for a loader and they are just regular pipe fittings at least on this tractor.

Those some styles came with a trans disconnect. 4020s from what I saw you can pull a lever and you cannot move the tractor. Is there a lock on that pedal? And that other leak is prob rockshaft seals.

No lock on the pedal that I can tell. I’ll have to try and see what it does

Any idea where check valve is for power steering? I got a 2010 can’t get power steering to work. That random valve you asked what it is disconnects the hydro pump so it’s easier to start! Thanks

How do you change front hydraulic filter on 2010

I'm not aware of a front hydraulic filter, as far as I know it is located in the lower portion of the transmission, under the cover

The hydraulic fluid should be checked with engine warm and lifts relaxed and motor at idile

The hole underneath is a weep hole where the pto clutch lives. It's suppose to be dry.
